Pope Francis brings in Rome’s poor for Holy Thursday

Italy’s news agency AGI is reporting that the Holy Father has ensured that 3000 of Rome’s poor will be present at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper which he will celebrate in the evening of Holy Thursday, which is March 28th this year.

Caritas of the Diocese of Rome has been given the tickets to distribute, along with the Community of Sant’Egidio, a lay association that serves the poor.

Another 1,300 tickets for the Mass have been distributed already. It is planned that at the Mandatum, the washing of the feet of 12 viri selecti (chosen men), Pope Francis will was the feet of 12 of the elderly priests of his diocese.

With his generous offer for Roman’s poor, it seems Pope Francis is putting into effect his desire for “a Church which is poor and for the poor.”
