While reading a colleague’s recent post about a disturbing Disney and World Population Council video propaganda video promoting birth control, I wondered about who would not exist if their parents followed such advice.

While this list is not exhaustive, it might provide an interesting glimpse of how our world would be different if their parents had chosen to only have an average family of 2.06 children.

The youngest of three children:

Pope Benedict XVI, Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Bl. Mother Teresa, President Andrew Jackson, Author Jack Kerouac, Olympian Michael Phelps, Basketball player Kobe Bryant

The youngest of four children:
Author John Steinbeck, Musician Buddy Holly, Astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, Musician George Harrison, Author Harper Lee

The youngest of five children:
Baseball Legend Jackie Robinson, Physicist Marie Curie, President Rutherford B. Hayes, Actor Morgan Freeman, Football player Tim Tebow

The youngest of six children:
Author, abolitionist and women’s rights activist Lydia Maria Child, Naturalist Charles Darwin, Actor Kevin Bacon, Actor John Travolta, Baseball player Bobby Thomson

The youngest of seven children:
Inventor Thomas Edison, Author Jane Austen, Philosopher Soren Kirkegaard, Author E.B. White, Manufacturer Levi Strauss, Actor Sydney Poitier, Actor Chris O’Donnell

The youngest of eight children:

The youngest of nine children:

The youngest of ten children:
Poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Creator of Jack Daniels Whiskey Jasper Newton Daniel, Poet Edwin Markham, Actress Florence Henderson

Rounding out the list as the youngest of 14 children is none other than Canadian singer, Celine Dion.

Others from large families include:
Fydor Dostoevsky – one of seven children; Vincent Van Gogh – one of six children; President John Tyler – sixth of eight children; President Franklin Pierce – sixth of eight children; President William McKinley – seventh of nine children; Comedian Stephen Colbert –youngest of eleven kids.

The list goes on and includes many other notable people. Although the point of this list is not to show that only those who have contributed to society are worthy of life, it is interesting to think of who the world has been deprived of since birth control and legalized abortion have become a part of the equation.
