Madrid, Spain, Jul 23, 2008 / 02:08 pm (CNA).- The governor of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, has announced that the dates for World Youth Day 2011 will be August 15-21. She also assured the public that local officials would support the event and ensure it would be a success.

“I am sure Madrid will be ready to welcome the Pope as he deserves for the next World Youth Day, which will be held in the Spanish capital in 2011,” Aguirre said in response to the announcement.

She said she shared the sentiments of Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela of Madrid, who said the event would “have important repercussions for the social, cultural and general life of Spain.”

Aguirre said she was “very happy” that Spain was chosen as the host city for the next World Youth Day and that “it will be a great opportunity for the young people of Madrid, whether they are Catholic or not, because the Pope is a worldwide authority.”

hi. my wife and i would like to inquire on how we can be able to help as volunteers for WYD2011 in madrid? we were participants then during the 1995 manila WYD and were part of a group which published a commemorative journal of the event.

How nice is to see all these comments. I am 26 years old and I was in Australia for a month and it was wonderfull. I did not worked as a wolunteer in Sydney but I want to do it now. I speek Croatian, English and some of Italian. How can I apply? Thank you

I am very much close to God and the church with different ministries I have been engaged and I so desire it to be able to be part of the World Youth Day in Madrid and be able to celebrate my birthday on the nineteenth of August(between WYD dates)!

I've been wanting a long time to be a part of the wyd and would love to know how to volunteer my time. Where do I find out information on how to participate in the 2011 wyd celebration in Spain and be a volunteer?

I am so happy the next World Youth Day will be in a Spanish speaking country, especially one that I have been hoping to visit. I would like information on how to be a youth volunteer or how one can get chosen to have the first dinner with the Pope the day he arrives?

I also speak four languages, one of which is Spanish, therefore I would be a great asset to WY 2011!

My concern is also the WYD dates. I'm not sure what these dates are based on but the organizers should know that classes may have already begun by the 15th or around then here in the US. What are the chances of the dates being changed?

Thank you! our schools had to release students for Sydney. Hard as most schools here are not Catholic. They did though so have trust and faith USA! PLEASE dont make 16 year age cut off dec 2011.make it July 2012 to ensure complete academic year group can attend PLEASE!!!!

I wonder how many youth will not be able to attend due to school. In my region this is during the first week of school for most high schools and colleges.
