.- The National Secular Society in London, England, is offering a debaptism certificate that allows atheists to "liberate yourself from the Original Mumbo-Jumbo that liberated you from the Original Sin you never had!"

The National Secular Society (NSS), an atheist humanist organization established in 1866, reports on their website that the "Certificate of Debaptism" has been downloaded over 100,000 times and is available to buy online. The certificate, which is printed on "quality parchment paper," demonstrates a trend, according to NSS President Terry Sanderson. "The concept of de-baptism indicates that people are not just indifferent to religion-which has been the traditional British approach-but are actually becoming hostile to it."

The certificate declares:

I ________ having been subjected to the Rite of Christian Baptism in infancy (before reaching an age of consent), hereby publicly revoke any implications of that Rite and renounce the Church that carried it out. In the name of human reason, I reject all its Creeds and all other such superstition in particular, the perfidious belief that any baby needs to be cleansed by Baptism of alleged ORIGINAL SIN, and the evil power of supposed demons. I wish to be excluded henceforth from enhanced claims of church membership numbers based on past baptismal statistics used, for example, for the purpose of securing legislative privilege.

The NSS site explains that the proceeds from the certificate, which sells for roughly $4.50, goes to support campaign activities including "secularization of Britain’s education system" the elimination of "abstinence campaigns," and their primary long term goal of "disestablishment of the Church of England."

According to Tearfund, the Church of England has been in a state of crises for many years. England, which has over 60 million citizens, counts 25 million as part of their official Church, but recent statistics have shown that only slightly more than 1.1 million attend religious services on a regular basis.

I have to laugh at most of these posts. But the one by Kiet really had me going. He/she says Xtians donm't force theirs beliefs on anyone?? How about all the US money having "in god we trust"? How about the pledge of allegience? I am a very proud American despite the fact that I don't believe in god (nor satan, heaven or hell). What a joke some Xtians can be. And just an FYI here...satanists are the ones who look upon themselves as their own god, not atheists. And, no...they are not the same thing, although one can be both.

Remember that atheists do not follow the commandments. Therefore they lie like it was nothing. They will fabricate names. Their reports on their website certainly will be multiplied 100 fold for they lack morality or any guilt in lying. They will forge signatures and do whatever is possible against God. Whoever is against God is from the devil.

I'm an atheist and don't want to be counted as a catholic but I'm in the system, inflating church numbers. Is it wrong to want to be removed from something you don't believe in?

The athiest have found an easy way to make money but I doubt anyone parts with their money so easily in England or that matter in Europe for such stupid adverts or prejudices.

These self-styled "humanists" will stoop to any level to turn a profit at the expense of the naive.

Kiet Tran says:
If they don't believe in God, they believe in themselves in that they are their own gods.

What utter nonsense! Atheists do not believe in any god. Is that so hard to understand?

And I think the point about baptism being imposed on a child before he/she is grown up enough to decide for him/herself is telling.

It is sad that the only way religion can recruit new members to their superstitious cults is to indoctrinate babies.

This certificate is actually a witness to the truth of baptism. If one really thinks baptism means nothing--one doesn't have to sign a certificate "debaptizing" oneself.
It is also a financial scam as well and underscores the sad state of religious understanding all over the UK and in Europe.

Don't these folks have any better things to do? Let me put it this way. If they don't believe in God, they believe in themselves in that they are their own gods. If so, they must respect our believe and our God. We respect their beliefs, so they must do the same toward us. If they attack the believers - the Christians - what is the fruit of their work? I suspect the devil is enjoying his fruits.

We must pray for them.

And to add to the last e-mail by Scott: these poor souls will wear this indelible mark in hell to remind them for eternity of the consequence of their mockery of original sin.

These guys really have a blind hatred for Christians don't they? Ah well, persecution is nothing new to Catholics. Better to live free than die believing in nothing.

These poor poor souls really need to find some other way to vent. In regards to "renouncing baptism", sorry, it won't do you any good. Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible (unremoveable)spiritual mark, even if sin prevents Baptism from bearing the fruits of salvation. Given once for all, Baptism cannot be repeated.
