TO "Disgusted Seminarian"
of NY: One wonders what you must think of the likes of Bernard Cardinal Law, FORMER archbishop of Boston. Or, more to the point, what is you impression of BOTH the clergy & laity that successfully pushed for his ouster?

I guess it was o.k. for priests to be silent when children were being raped; when Bishops all over the world allowed it to go on. The church has been severly damaged by the abuse scandals. After 40 yrs of wondering in the desert of Vatican II, the wrath of God has been released. Fatima revealed..Bishop will go up against Bishop, nation against nation.. it is unfolding.. which brings us to the lack of respect for the Eucharist which was brought to us by poor leadership in the last 40 yrs of Bishops. In the future, Bishops will have to be holier than God to regain what they have lost. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.

Just the fact that they want to draw a ballot to oust a Bishop is RIDICULOUS. They are trying to lay the foundation to do the same with the Bishop of Rome some day. Later when they don't like the Pope they will try to oust him by citing this incident as precedent. It's almost incomprehensible to think these priests don't understand the Church, but I guess they don't. Their minds have been conformed to the world. My personal advice: if it bothers you so much, take it to the feet of Christ in silent prayer, be men and offer it up!

Didn't Martin Luther and his cronies pull a stunt like this before? One of the promises that priests take is a promise to be obedient to their superiors, as Christ is to the Father. We need bishops to teach, govern and sanctify us. Rebel hippy priests fail when it comes to teaching, governing and especially sanctifying. This schism isn't even over keeping the Church holy and keeping to Her Traditions. Sure these priests may be given a hard time, but such defiance is a prideful and selfish answer. New York... the abortion capital of America. Maybe the priests should use their defiance on the city's abortionists. Would do the world better.

The person listed as Carolyn M McCarthy
Spartanburg SC USA shows her total ignorance of what being Catholic is or means by her comment. It shows a total ignorance of the faith. A Catholic Church without bishops is not Christ's Church at all. I'm soooo embarassed for her.

Dear Carolyn,
Without Bishops you have no conforming organization from which to shepherd the people. Jesus Himself was a Bishop. The Cardinals and the Pope are Bishops too. What do you propose?

This letter from this group of priests, no matter how large or small, or how influential they are is abhorent. On the day of my Ordination I will kneel before my ordinary and place my hands in his and make a solemn promise of respect and obediance. That promise is binding no matter who the ordinary is.
The bottom line is that the Holy Hather, then JP2 saw fit to name Edward Egan to be the shepard of the Archdiocese of New York and my Metropolitan. Wether or not one likes him is neither here nor there, he is your ordinary and he deserves your undying respect and obedience. This letter is a disgrace and those priests who authored it ought to be ashamed.

A priest must be in proper relationship with his bishop, for it is his ministry that they share. To have priests rebel against their bishop is akin to patricide. Where the bishop is, there is Christ and the Church. Is this pious nonsense or theological ramblings? Only those without a true understanding of the Church would think so. All would do well to remember this.
The priest authors of the letter refer to the need for a bishop to be a father, and they are correct. But, again, for this relationship to be, sons are needed. This is not how sons behave. We are instructed in the decalogue to honor our father, both spiritual and human, and this is a terrible affront to this commandment. That all being said, is every bishop perfect? Of course not. Is every priest perfect? No. Both must do the best they can with what they have been given, and support each other with charity and compassion.

Maybe these discontented clerics can sign on with John Kerry's Swiftboaters, or better still, join the retired old Generals who want to dump Rumsfeld. What kind of a Christian example is being set by this disloyalty? They all need to go to confession and start over. This strikes as a form of self-absorption gone completely wild. It is a disgrace. Probably some of them are flaunting vows of obedience.
