Pope Benedict is courageous. Would that all our bishops followed their leader, so we could follow ours. We need to look straight to the Pope. Some Protestant friends are giving a series of lectures to Republicans, in which they cogently note that the problem in today's western world is that most people prefer disgrace to putting themselves in danger (politically or socially). Let us pray for courage for our shepherds.

This article is very timely. Wyoming's legislative session just ended for the year. One pro-life bill passed the senate and house and was vetoed by the pro abortion (non Catholic) Governor, One pro-life bill which would have saved numerous lives failed on first reading in the House by 4 votes and four of those voting NO were self procalimed Catholics. The Defense of Marriage passed the senate and died on a tie vote in the House Rules committee chaired by the Catholic Speaker of the House who broke the six-six tie by casting the vote to kill the bill which would have then gone to the full House for approval. Many non Catholics have been writing e-mails and letters to the editor wondering whether or not the Catholic Church has changed her position on this issue.
One lesbian couple who testified against the recognition of same sex marriage and also claimed to be part of a loving Catholic community (named the parish) in all the news reports, was sent a letter by their pastor that they would be denied Communion. This has also been widely reported in our papers.
