Ad asks Obama: ‘If fatherhood begins at conception, when does life begin?’

.- A new advertisement from the Family Research Council’s lobbying arm, FRC Action, cites Sen. Barack Obama’s endorsement of fathers who “recognize that responsibility doesn’t just end at conception” to press the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee to defend his stand on abortion.

The 30-second television ad begins with a clip of Obama’s Father’s Day speech at a Chicago church in which the Illinois senator discussed the problem of absent black fathers. “We need fathers to recognize that responsibility doesn't just end at conception,” he says in the clip.

The ad then shows commentary from FRC President Tony Perkins. Holding his squirming son Samuel in his arms, Perkins asks Obama “If, as you say, fatherhood begins at conception, when does life begin?”

Perkins says that, as a father of five himself, he thanks Obama for promoting fatherhood. Perkins then notes that Obama as a U.S. Senator voted to allocate taxpayer dollars to promote abortion in the United States and overseas.

In the ad the FRC president emphasizes the apparent contradiction between Obama’s pro-fatherhood and pro-abortion views, rhetorically asking “If I became a father at conception, when did Samuel here become my son?"

The advertisement aired on Friday in several cities across the United States. It is scheduled to be broadcast in Cincinnati and later in Dallas and Atlanta.

Sen. Obama has voted against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which would have protected from infanticide those children who survive abortion attempts. He has also promised to pass the Freedom of Choice Act, which FRC Action says would “annihilate” every single state law limiting or regulating abortion, including the federal ban on partial birth abortion.

David Nammo, Executive Director of FRC Action, told CNA that there has been no official reaction to the advertisement from either Sen. Obama’s Campaign or the campaign of his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain.

Nammo said the FRC would like to see Obama acknowledge that life begins at conception and that fatherhood entails responsibility to the unborn. Further, the Family Research Council hopes Obama will renounce his support for taxpayer funding of abortions.

The FRC would also like to see Sen. McCain continue to speak strongly on family-related issues, such as his opposition to Roe v. Wade, Nammo told CNA.

Universal Healthcare is too dangerous. This gives our government control over how women and unborn babies are treated. How can we trust government run healthcare when we have someone like Obama with the backing of a pro-abortion legislature? Universal healthcare would be a step in the wrong direction.

Obama does believe life begins at conception since he says: ".... the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child..."

May I be so bold as to correct you Rose...

Universal healthcare would allow one to choose one's own doctor. Take the British NHS for instance; one is entitled to a second opinion from another Doctor and so forth. One is also entitled to move or change Doctor when one wishes to do so. Similarly in the case of abortion (for example) a Doctor may disagree on moral grounds but is bound by law to direct the said patient to another Doctor. Thus no one's rights or morals are directly effected, it is a personal choice. Therefore universal healthcare is not going to undermine personal choice and freedoms - unless the system is corrupted or conducted incorrectly.

Bob,
The Democratic party is for the killing of children, how is this pro-family.
If the Democratic party has the richest people (Buffet, Soros, Gates ... ) in America init, how is the Republican party the party of the rich?
If Vietnam War & Serbian War were presided over by Democratic Presidents, why shouldn’t the democrats be also classified as pro-war. How is defending a constitutional right being pro-gun, would it not also be pro-constitution? How is having private insurance anti-family when government run hospitals let people die on the floor (see Kings County in the news)?

Obama said: "I've got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals.

"But if they make a mistake," Obama continued, "I don't want them punished with a baby."
Obama views his future grandchildren as punishments. What a sad contrast to his Kansas grandfather.

Having universal health care IS NOT pro family.
You will then would not be given the option of changing doctors who
disagree with your morals.Think about it when you are sick or have stress in your life you aren't going to be up to fighting with your doctor.
How much do you treasure your freedom of choosing your own doctor.
Let us help the poor and needy absolutely!!
Let us NOT TAKE away man's right to who he wants for a Doctor in the process.
Remember-Freedom isn't free!!!

Perkins may speak the truth on life and fatherhood beginning at conception, but sadly he has been accused of ties to David Duke and the Council of Conservative Citizens.

I also would like to see a national consensus on ending abortion, as well as the War in Iraq. I would like to see real pro-family legislation, such as universal health coverage and public policies that support families, such as longer maternity/paternity leaves. Unfortunately, Sen. McCain continues the Bush administration's policies of being pro-war, pro-gun, pro-rich and anti-family.

Sen. Obama is eloquent, but his opinions often crash with each other. So his credibility is questionable. How can he elected PRESIDENT OF THE US?
