On Thursday Pope Benedict XVI met with 12 representatives of different Christian confessions and of other religions at the Monastery of St. Benedict near Sao Paulo.  During the meeting, which was attended by several Orthodox archbishops, evangelical pastors, and Rabbi Sobel of the Paulist Israeli Congregation, Sheik Armando Hussein Saleh of the Islamic community of Sao Paulo gave the Holy Father his white mantle as a sign of fraternity.

 

Afterwards Benedict XVI had lunch and a period of rest before meeting with young people at the Pacembu stadium Thursday evening.
