Cardinal Keeler to boycott graduation
![]() Related articles:
.- Baltimore’s Cardinal William Keeler has announced that he will boycott Loyola College of Maryland’s graduation ceremony because former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani—a firm supporter of abortion--will deliver the commencement address. The Cardinal wrote in a letter to College president David Haddad, that, "there will be no representative of the archdiocese participating in any event honoring Mayor Giuliani." He also said that he hoped the Catholic school would "understand many of the consequences" of inviting a commencement speaker who disagrees with such a fundamental moral stance of the Church. The announcement comes following protests by Maryland’s pro-life groups and the Washington-based Cardinal Newman Society, a group who seeks to maintain Catholic identity in institutions of higher learning. The Cardinal Newman Society says that they are currently protesting 17 different Catholic Colleges and Universities for inviting speakers and honorary degree nominees who stand against fundamental Church teachings. Dear Felipe Solis, your question really needs to be answered by the authorities of the Loyola College. The truth is that there is an anti-church trend rapidly growing within the church. Sadly enough this is more among clergy than among the laity. So many people feel that being a modern human being means disagreeing with the church even on issues that concern the value and dignity of human life. I think we have to redefine what we mean by a catholic institution. An institution that does not uphold the basic and Godly teachings of the church is not worthy of the name Catholic. I thank you for raising this concern and I hope that many more will reflect on this issue of so-called liberalism. If being balanced means rejecting the truth of the scriptures, please let us return tot he ancient times where atleast in their so-called ignorance and rigidity, the had respect for God and humanity. Let us continue to pray for our church and our Holy Father whom God has chosen to lead us at this time, that he and other church leaders both lay and cleric, may be faithful to God and his will for us human beings.

Keeler is simply grandstanding. Professor Vigen Guroian, professor of theology at the college in question, wrote a stunning article in the February 2005 issue of Christianity Today, the upshot of which was that when it comes to sex among students, Loyola College of Maryland is no better than a brothel. Has the good Cardinal done anything about that? Not as far as I know. Sexual promiscuity and abortion go hand in hand. So why should Guiliani's invitation be surprising?

Because they care about their places of honor more than the suffering of others, not to ever forget first to honor the word of God, the truth. If you see someone hurting themselves and other, do you not try to stop them and explain out of love of neighbor. Well it seems they don't even care to misguide millions on focusing on people who do wrong for places of honor and comfort. Let us pray to Our Lady of the Rosary for them so that they may obtain from her Son the grace of zeal so that they may be industrious for the things of God, which they have lost. We must learn to see with the eyes of the heart, of the spirit, so we may see the true missionaries and humble servants of God, they are not in places of honor, they are in the poor and suffering like the Schindler family, they are Terry Schindler and the many quiets families who suffer for Christ and in trust of Christ. For their reward is great in Heaven.

Why this Loyolla College, supposed to be Catholic, invite this pro-abortion member to talk in a Gradutation of Alumny, as Georgetown did a recognition to another pro-abortion member, why? I would like to know a very good reason for that attitud.
