.- The secretary general of Professional for Ethics, Fabian Fernandez de Alarcon, has echoed the sentiments of Spain’s Minister of Education, Angel Gabilondo, who said he is worried about recent sexual assaults on young girls by adult men and boys. The secretary general warned that the moral relativism promoted by “Education for the Citizenry” is the fundamental cause of such acts.
“These terrible incidents have multiple causes but the fundamental one is moral relativism, the absence of references about what is good and what is evil and the lack of limits, especially in sexual relations,” Fernandez de Alarcon said.
For this reason, he asked Minister Gabilondo if the school course recommended by his ministry “that incites 12 year-old adolescents to engage in sexual activity is really the best type of formation for young people.”
Fernandez de Alarcon pointed to page 41 of the new edition of “Education for the Citizenry,” which states that “most of the so-called ‘sexual perversions’ are meaningless, as, in the end they are no different from other forms of conduct.”
He warned that the material imparted in the course does not encourage students to value fidelity, commitment and the comprehensive development of the person, and that, rather, it promotes a culture that places selfish desire above everything else.
For this reason he called on the promoters of Education for the Citizenship to serious self-criticism and to keep ideology out of education.
