.- Pope Benedict XVI intends to publish his Motu Proprio liberating the Mass of St. Pius V on July 7, 2007 announced today the Vatican correspondent for the German newspaper Die Welt, Paul Badde.

Badde reported today that Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, presented a copy of the Motu Proprio universally liberating the Tridentine Mass to some 30 bishops from different countries at the Sala Bologna of the Apostolic Palace.

Die Welt’s correspondent only mentions that Cardinal Karl Lehmann from Germany was one of the bishops attending the meeting, which ended with a one-by-one greeting to the Holy Father.

The 3-page long document, signed by Pope Benedict XVI,  comes with a letter of explanation about four pages long.  The publication of both documents will take place on July 7th.

According to Badde, the letter emphasizes the unity of the Roman Rite, which from now on will have to forms, an “ordinary” and an “extraordinary,” supposed to inspire each other.

The ordinary form will continue to be the Post-Vatican rite; while the extraordinary will be the Missal used until 1962 and written according to the norms established by Pope St. Pius V and confirmed by the Council of Trent –thus the name “Tridentine.”

Natalie your comment:
"Novus Ordo...can truly
be called "Novus Nonsense" Welcome the Tridentine Mass with exuberation and joy!" is wrong as the mass of Vatican II is a perfectly valid and licit mass as well as the Tidentine mass is as well. You receive Christ in both masses.

The Tridentine Mass will not be available at your local parish,
so, as far as this is
incredibly good news,
it will be a huge disappointment for those who expect to have a Tridentine Mass at their parish.

Carolyn McCarthy, just make sure that it is the correct mass according to Pope St. Pius V's, "QUO PRIMUM"! Just because it is LATIN doesn't mean that it is the REAL MASS, and not some N.O.M protestantnized MESS like the Indult, J23rd, St. Joseph, or some look and sound alike! Look for "MANY" not "ALL" at the consecration of the wine; for whom they enter/insert in the "UNA CUM..."; and if they add St. Joseph in the Canon of the Mass. After that, find out if the priest was ordained in the OLD RITE, and by A REAL BISHOP elevated before October 26, 1958!

I am so excited and can't wait for Latin masses. So many, young and old have been waiting for this to happen. Thank the Lord!

IT's about time! I, too, hope inspiration will take place, specifically, that the "extraordinary" will inspire the "ordinary" with more reverence than is usually seen.
Hallelujah!

PRAISE GOD! Now let's see how many of our priests are willing to learn liturgical Latin for the glory of God. The article states that the two rites will inspire each other. No, I think the Tridentine rite has more inspiration. We only have to look at all the novelties and "innovations" of the Novus Ordo to come to that conclusion. Now, will our priests inject their own ideas and personalities into the Tridentine Mass? Let's pray not! Also, the Church is already divided between the "cafeteria Catholics"(liberals) and the truly orthodox i.e. the right thinking, committed Catholics. Prior to the N.O. Mass, the Church was more unified. Those who remember the older, extraordinary rite, can attest to that.

When the "liberals" wanted to ram through lay ministers they were at first refered to as extraordinary but they quickly forgot that term and started to refer to them all as Eucharistic ministers to the point now in many churches the miniter (i.e. priest)sits on his throne while the laity distribute Holy Communion.

Wondering if the "liberals" will allow the term "extraordinary" to be corrupted regarding the Latin Mass as they have for their "Eukie" ministers? Don't hold your breath unless you want to pass out.

Finally! It is about time we realized the uniting factor we had in the use of LATIN at Mass. Especially today in a world where people are very mobile and travel frequently to other language areas. What better, more uniting factor than a common language worldwide to bring people yogether in the universal church and thus join together as a family in their worship on God.

I am a liturgical musician, 62 yrs. of age, and am in full agreement with our beloved Pope....whatever he says, goes in my book.
Besides, I've always liked to hear incorporated Latin in the Mass and this is why many Catholics visit and view EWTN Masses......many of us love the reverence and awe produced by Latin rite.......let us please pray for all of our Bishops and priests who do NOT fall into obedience under our Supreme Pontiff. God, have mercy on them.

7 7 7 - a good date for this to take effect. Roman Catholics really should continue in traditional rites as that is what makes us Roman Catholics. Vernacular translations should be made available for the understanding of the faithful as well as study of the meaning of mass for those who are misinformed or bored.

This is a grace-filled decision. I am a convert and converted during the Tridentine Rite. I have missed it ever since. There is an indult parish close to mine which has the Pius V Mass every Sunday, but for the sake of family unity, I only go there once a year. I feel it is important to stay in the parish and worship with family. Now I hope we can have the Pius V Mass occassionally at our own parish. I am starting to love this Pope.

I am very pleased that the Tridentine mass is returning. I have been praying for this return. I hope in all God's graces that there will be much more vocations, many more souls saved & a better understanding among all Catholics of our true Faith, something that has been ignored for the past many many years.
