.- The Vatican has approved the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman, the English convert and theologian who has had immense influence upon English-speaking Catholicism, the Birmingham Mail reports. John Henry Newman was born in 1801. As an Anglican priest, he led the Oxford Movement that sought to return the Church of England to its Catholic roots. His conversion to Catholicism in 1845 rocked Victorian England. After becoming an Oratorian priest, he was involved in the establishment of the Birmingham Oratory. He died in 1890 and is buried at the oratory country house Rednall Hill. The Catholic Church has accepted as miraculous the cure of an American deacon’s crippling spinal disorder. The deacon, Jack Sullivan of Marshfield, Massachusetts, prayed for John Henry Newman’s intercession. At his beatification ceremony later this year, John Henry Newman will receive the title “Blessed.” He will need one more recognized miracle to be canonized. The case of a 17-year-old New Hampshire boy who survived serious head injuries from a car crash is being investigated as a possible second miracle. Subscriber comments:

I am so thrilled! He is a relative of mine, and I believe it is due to his prayers that I was given the grace to convert to Catholicism 13 years ago.

Francois, remember that it was the Catholic Church who gathered the Bible into one volume. It was "altered" by other people!
Hooray for Cardinal Newman! Hooray for the Catholic Church in the USA! Hooray for the Catholic Church!

"His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."(Ps. 146:4) "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten."(Eccl. 9:5) "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation."(John 5:28, 29) The Holy Scriptures thus make it abundatly and emphatically clear that those who die - yes, even the good - go down into their graves and their lives, thoughts, breath etc completely cease as they await the blessed return of Jesus Christ. 'Beatification' is therefore contrary to Biblical teaching, and should then be considered as contrary to Christianity as well. That is to say, if your church believes in 'Sola Scripura' - the Bible and the Bible alone. (Do note - the Bible as found in the original manuscripts, not the Bible as altered by the Roman Catholic church.)

When Newman was received into the Church, he embraced the volumes of the Fathers in his library and said 'Now, you are mine.' By being beatified, Newman is in the same way, coming to be part of us. He is being honoured on earth so he can come to our aid from heaven. Deo Gratias.
