John Paul II appoints new Bishop of Wichita

.- Today, the Holy Father appointed Msgr. Michael Owen Jackels of Lincoln, Nebraska, as bishop of Wichita. The diocese of Wichita is home to 115,482 Catholics, 130 priests, 333 religious and 3 deacons, with an overall population of 949,385.

The bishop-elect was born in Rapid City South Dakota, in 1954, and ordained a priest in 1981. He is an official of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
