Operation Rescue President Troy Newman

.- Several pro-life groups in Wichita have received death threats after last month’s killing of abortionist George Tiller.

Operation Rescue says they have received various threats over the years, but that number has increased drastically since Tiller’s shooting.

Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, told The Wichita Eagle that some of the threats have mentioned the pro-life prayer vigil and memorial scheduled for this each day this weekend.  Off-duty officers have been hired to help with security at the weekend’s events.

Of the messages received, some have threatened “vengeance” against the pro-life movement, while others specifically targeted Newman and his family.

Although leaders of the pro-life movement have spoken out against the shooting, some abortion supporters have accused the pro-life movement of encouraging the attack on Tiller, one of the few doctors in the country who provided late-term abortions.

Scott Roeder, 51, has been charged with first-degree murder in Tiller's death and was found to have ties to anti-government groups.

The Kansas Coalition for Life has also received a number of threats since the shooting, one of which was in the form of a text message saying, "One of you is going to die for what you did to Tiller."

Another group, Kansans for Life, told The Wichita Eagle that it has also received threats. Mary Wilkinson explained that she answered the phone, only to hear a loud, angry caller saying, “You’ve killed him. Now I hope somebody comes and kills you all.”

The call led the group’s state development director, David Gittrich, to report the threat to the police.

However, Wilkinson says she feels optimistic now.

"I think things are settling down now," she told The Wichita Eagle. "I just think the community needs some healing time."

CNA attempted to contact several Wichita-area pro-life groups but didn't receive responses.

Is the MSM covering this fact? I haven't seen it.

P.S. Let us pray for Ashley.

Isn't it great Ashley that CNA actually practices freedom of speech instead of censorship so you can speak your mind? I know CNA is open to publish all points of view by reading comments like yours which are in fact 'educational' for practicing Catholics and others that share the values of CNA. Keep up the good work--tell your friends.

Scott Roeder was not pro-life because he murdered. Why are the abortionists associating him with pro-life? Pro-lifers do not want to see anyone die, unborn or born. Thou shalt not kill is their motto and commandment.

I wonder if there would be any advatage for the pro-life movement if the threats noted were sent to the media with a further comment to the effect that incorrect and incomplete coverage of the abortion issue has, and could even have a very serious
impact on public perception? jum

Does CNA publish articles about the death threats abortion providers get every day? No, didn't think so.

And by the way, Tiller's murderer, Scott Roeder, didn't just have ties to anti-government groups. He had ties to anti-abortion groups, like Operation Rescue and several others. Funny you didn't mention that either.

But then, I'll be surprised if you even publish this comment.

Our society is sick. The promotion of abortion as a woman's right has destroyed the perspective of the sanctity of life on every level. This abortion issue has become a civil war in our nation. There is nothing but death and the promotion of death on every level in it. Wake up America as our country is becoming aborted by "THE CULTURE OF DEATH". REMEMBER WE ARE ALL MADE OF body ,blood and SOUL!!!!!!!LIVE FREE AND DIE TO THE IDEA OF ABORTION AND THOUGHTS OF KILLING EACH OTHER OVER THIS TRAGIC ISSUE.

Since all pro-life people were called murderers after the killing of Dr. Tiller is it acceptable to label all pro-abortion people because of these threats?
