.- The campaign Christmas is Jesus, organized by the Christian Life Movement, began on December 1 with a large public collection to raise funds for more than 100,000 poor children in the region devastated by the August 15 earthquake in Peru.
According to organizers, the campaign âseeks to return the true meaning to this holiday: the celebration of the Birth of the Child Jesus, who became man for our reconciliation,â as well as âto promote a spirit of solidarity and generosity with our brothers and sisters who suffer the most, especially children.â
More than 1,500 volunteers, mostly young people, took to the streets of the Peruvian cities of Lima, Callao, Arequipa, Piura and Chincha, to request donations for the needy.
Christmas is Jesus is one of the âmost important campaigns of solidarity of Latin Americaâ and is carried out as well in âColombia, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Costa Rica and other countries,â organizers said.
