.- The National Right to Life Committee has endorsed former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson as the candidate most likely to beat abortion-rights supporter Rudy Guliani, the Associated Press reports.

"While there are various polls, and some are up-and-down, the overwhelming consensus has been that he is best-positioned to top pro-abortion candidate Rudy Giuliani for the Republican nomination," the group's executive director, David N. O'Steen, said at a Washington news conference.

O'Steen argued that the National Right to Life endorsement was of greater importance to the race than recent endorsements from prominent conservatives, such as televangelist Pat Robertson's endorsement of Giuliani or Moral Majority co-founder Paul Weyrich’s endorsement of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

"This is an endorsement by an organization representing groups throughout the country, 3,000 chapters, and it just can't be compared to individual endorsements," O'Steen said.

I am a lifetime conservative Catholic. I support Fred Thompson. He is correct on the abortion issue. The HRA is going nowhere. He wants to appoint conservative judges (and no one can dispute the fact that he would do that) in hopes that Roe v Wade will be overturned. He also knows that the tide of opinion about abortion is changing because of new technology which allows us to see inside the womb. He wants to see the American people have the debate, knowing hearts and minds are changing.

I agree with Fred on all other issues, as well. From less federal government intervention in education to halting illegal immigration to creating a new pro-America will to serve, Fred Thompson is right on all the issues.

Thompson has NO chance whatsoever of beating Hillary... he's not the least bit appealing, seems weak on everything, including abortion. There's only one pro life Republican who can win the election and thats Mitt Romney. National Right to Life has shown an astounding lack of judgement in endorsing Thompson.

NRTL: As a Catholic, I think Mitt Romney would have been a better candidate to endorse.
