Obama administration reveals plans to advance gay agenda
![]() President-elect Barack Obama

.- Citing what they call America’s “promise of equality,” the Obama administration plans to push for homosexual rights by including protections of sexual orientation, “gender identity” and “gender expression” as civil rights. His office proposes expanding hate crimes statues and the adoption rights of homosexuals while supporting full civil unions for “LGBT couples” to give them “legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples.” The proposals are announced under the Civil Rights section of their agenda presented at Change.gov, the web site of the Obama campaign’s self-described “Office of the President-elect.” A section titled “Support for the LGBT Community” outlines the agenda for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered activists and quotes remarks Obama made on June 1, 2007. “While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do,” Obama said, referring to riots which followed a police raid on a New York City gay bar. “Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is about who we are as Americans. It's about whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect." According to the web site, President-elect Obama and vice-president-elect Joe Biden will support expand crimes legislation such as the Matthew Shepard Act. They also back the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which they claim will “prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.” “While an increasing number of employers have extended benefits to their employees' domestic partners, discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace occurs with no federal legal remedy,” the web site states, referring to similar legislation sponsored by Obama in the Illinois state legislature. Regarding civil unions and same-sex marriage, the site says “Barack Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples.” Advocating the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, the agenda plans to “enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions.” The site also references Obama’s Senate vote against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which, in the site’s words, “would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples.” On the subject of adoption rights, the Change.gov web site states: “Barack Obama believes that we must ensure adoption rights for all couples and individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation. He thinks that a child will benefit from a healthy and loving home, whether the parents are gay or not.” The Obama agenda further advocates the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell” policy barring open homosexuals from serving in the military. Its AIDS prevention policies also pledge to enact a “comprehensive” national strategy including contraceptive sex education and “combating infection within our prison population through education and contraception.” Subscriber comments:

as long as we don't distinguish between the PERSON and the BEHAVIOR, any argument will be useless.
ever thought about being "our brother's keeper"? we must desire what is truly good for the homosexual person - and leaving him or her in that "unhappy" state is short of killing him or her. I should know. I am a "being-healed one" that was saved from the homosexual lifestyle - a lifestyle that I thought will bring me happiness and love but instead brought me to self-hatred and hatred of others.

The root of this debate lies in the Church, quite literally. It was not until 1958 that the word 'homosexual' entered the Bible when a bias translater mistranslated from the words malakoi & arsenakaitoi, neither of which means to be gay, but to be a male prostitute or at the receipt of it. It was common in Biblical times for young boys to offer sexual services to older men. This is prostitution not sexual orientation! Lev 18:22 For a man to lie with a man was an abomination translated from the word (toevah) meaning against tradition & culture as Israel was a young nation trying to grow it's population. This also explains why 'Onan was put to death for spilling his seed outside of the woman' & why there is no mention of women not lying with women when in all other parts of the Holiness code in Leviticus there is a line for the man and then for the woman. Gay women are the least at risk from aids. Straight and gay alike contract aids but it stands out more amongst gay men as they are a minority. In Romans Paul is talking about the paegans in idol worship in his letter to the Romans, and uses the Greek word 'paraphysin' translated to 'unseemly' in kjv which actually means out of the ordinary (something he hadn't seen before) rather than natural as in the order of the universe! It was there lustful ways & idol worship that was the sin. Men & women, Men & Men, Women & Women, all with each other. Not loving commited relationships in the way that is natural to you i.e straight or gay. People are created gay, sexual orientation is determined in the womb. Even God acts 'Paraphysin' in scripture. Galations 3:28:'there is no longer Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female for you are all one in Christ Jesus'. It is not a sin to be gay. Love is love, love bewteen to unrelated, consenting adults is the same whether straight or gay. What defines whether a relationship is sinful or not, is whether or not the relationship is faithful, loving & commited.

I ask all people of “faith” to give me one rational reason; just ONE carefully thought-out and intelligent justification for the maltreatment and the limitations on the civil rights of Gay and Lesbian citizens around the globe. But they can't give you one. That is why these hate-filled depots turn to the superstitious mandates of religion in order to justify their evil acts. None of the powerful, of any faith, can hold the moral high-ground -- especially when self-styled "Christian" and militant Muslim leaders encourage and incite violent anti-social knee-jerk reactions in their adherents through their perpetually demeaning rhetoric and their pathological behavior towards Gay and Lesbian human beings.
As I've always said, religion is the last refuge for the scoundrel. It will always be that until people respect the humanity in their fellow man and woman, and not try to force people to be just like them. Nothing is more destructive to one’s sense of individuality and to the human spirit or to one’s pursuit of happiness than imposing one group’s beliefs on another -- either through legislative action or through force of violence.

In a time of dire financial crisis, lack of jobs, healthcare and human suffering on a global scale, all we can do is shout at each other about the religious and secular ideology regarding homosexuality. Doesn't the church have better things to do like feed the hungry and clothe the homeless and nourish the poor? Or is this what everyone wants to spend their time, energy and money doing for the rest of their lives???? And whatever happened to the big 'L' in all this nonsense- called LOVE??

To Tim and all of you who think that those of us speaking out against same sex union right are against lesbians and gay people:
I am against what they do not who they are. From the very beginning, God created a man and a woman-Adam and Eve and ordered them to unite, multiply, and subdue the earth (Read the book of Genesis). The human race came about through the union of a man and a woman. A man and a woman not only compliment each other physically; they do so emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually as well. Children need both a mother and a father to mold them into capable and respectful young men and women. Male and female compromise each other with their unique abilities, gifts, and talents from God. I am against the inappropriate use of God's gift of human sexuality. The gift of sexuality is for procreation purposes. It is a selfless act. It is not meant for socializing or physical pleasure alone. Such abuse against God's great gift of sexuality has led to devastating consequences such as HIV, AIDS, and other Sexual Transmitted Diseases. It has also led to artificial contraception and all its deadly results (health issues in women-breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, depression, etc.) high divorce rate, family and marriage break down and abortion. Homosexuals and heterosexuals alike, must learn to abide by God's law respecting God's gift of human sexuality, marriage life, family life, and human life.

It was clear from the election results that the Roman Catholic Church in America is splitting and that we are witnessing the beginning of the end. Our Liberal Catholic brothers and sisters are chopping and dividing the teachings of the Church. They join with secularists and atheists and are putting unbearable pressures on the souls of the world. The Church (after much cleansing) can bear these pressures and stands until the end.
The persecutions (as seen here) seem subtle and harmless now, but come January with Obama in office we won't believe our own eyes! We now join our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemani. Prepare yourselves, this year's Advent is more than symbolism.

"Obama has further clarified his morally twisted plans for homosexual "rights." However, he ignores the Lord's definition of relationships and marriage, as well as the fact that God defines homosexual relationships as unnatural. He also fails to realize that no country that desires God's blessings should go against His Word:"
He is not setting Christian doctrine, he is setting a policy for a SECULAR GOVERNMENT! Definitions of marriage, behavior modification laws, none of that belongs in the Constitution if based on a religious belief. There is a separation of Church and State in this country. If you want to live in a country that legislates personal behavior based on a religious model, find one that does it.....Iran might be good for you, Israel would not. "Under the new ruling, however, gay couples that marry abroad can now reside in Israel as a registered married couple and not just a civil partnership. This move is significant since registration as a married couple gives gays access to the adoption rights afforded to married heterosexual couples." Get a grip, abortion and gay marriage are the least of our problems. I don't see anywhere in this magazine a critique of the BANKING INDUSTRY's greed that led to our current economic mess!! Was greed one of the seven deadly sins? Mr. Business went to mass every single Sunday, but Mr. Business went to hell for what he did on Monday. How many of you are Mr. Business?

To Richard of California:
1 Timothy 3:15: if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. Who is your authority? Is it yourself or do you trust in some wise person's teachings or do you trust in the Church and her teachings as Jesus instructed us to do? We all have an authority but only one authority is authentic. The one authentic authority is God Himself and He gave his Authority to Peter our first Pope. Mathew 16: 18"I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." So what does the Church and the Magisterium have to say about homosexuality? Love the sinner, but hate the sin. To love the sinner we must let the sinner know the he is sinning so they can repent. John the Baptist taught loudly, "Repent". You take some beautiful verses and make statements that lack the content discussed in this article. I nor any Christian could disagree with the verses you quoted from James&Mathew. These verses do not deal with the specific problem of sin. You are confusing love for hatred. It is love for the Church to shepherd her flock from sin. Jesus gave more warnings of of Hell and is not tolerant to sin. Rev 20:12

Kathryn, you are right, it IS your business BUT, that said, it's a Christian's business if they speak out against homosexuality ot abortion. Yes, we should govern our own behavior, but part of that freedom of which you speak is the freedom to disagree, no matter which side you're own. It's just as "out there" to expect everyone to agree with YOUR standpoint. really.

Homosexuality: I don't agree with it, but I know that God is their judge. The only issue I have with them right now is what the commenter Al said: We can't let the gay agenda dictate what can and cannot be said from a pulpit against teh lifestyle. The Bible IS NOT hate literature, it is truth! The gay community is in danger of doing to Christians who disagree with their standpoint what they say is being done to them. Discriminating against them. Nobody's first amendment right should be in jeopardy no matter how they feel. Abortion: I don't agree with abortion, but I feel outlawing Roe v. Wade would create a culture where once again, ppl will be having illegal and dangerous abortions. Only God can change hearts that aren't turned toward Him.

This agenda will lead to the same kind of nonsense that happens in Canada. All religous will be subject to government punishment if they cite Church Teachings on homosexuality and all of the people's first amendment rights will be denied in cases of subjects associated with homosexuals. Human rights have been coopted by the gay activist movement which obviously is not satisfied with domestic partnerships(equal rights) but want more - that will translate into christian persecution. The Christian view that homosexual behavior is sinful and not to be condoned will, if articulated, be against the law.

Kathryn...Sure, everyone exercises their "choice" but ever hear of "your rights end where mine begins"? Can you imagine if during WWII people felt like you? Why bother saving the Jews because it's the Nazi's choice. Who are we to interfer? Or how about the abolitionists? Were they shoving their beliefs down another's throat? And what about Martin Luther King? How dare he force his beliefs on us?
And now abortion. How dare we try to stop the killing of innocent children in the womb? No one has the right to kill. But we still do have the right to freedom of religion and speech. This is still a free country... Yes, what you do in your bedroom is your choice. But every action has a consequence. Bad choices lead to bad consequences and visa versa. We are doing a great harm by labeling these issues - religious. THey are not a matter of religion but rather of natural law. As human beings by nature there is behavior that is natural - that helps us develop into the kind of beings that we are. Unnatural behavior which we are free to choose degrades the capacity we have to be truly human and guide our actions by our highest capacities our intellect and will seeking what is true and good for us taking into account that we are persons.
What we should lobby against is having someone legally impose on the whole country an acceptance of behavior that falls bellow the dignity of a person. Each one is free to behave as he/she chooses but to enforce an opinion that contradicts natural law will hurt the common good or our society. Please consider what is good for all -not taking into account your personal opinion. The only truth we all know and accept is that there is a God and that life is a gift. We did nothing to earn it and it is not just any life but a human life which is meant to be lived with dignity. This is not religion but common sense.

here are some specific verses from the BIBLE, some of which some of you seem to have dismissed or conveniently forgotten to allow your perpetuation of hate in the name of God.
James 3:9-10 9-With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10-*Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.* Matthew 5:43-48 43-"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44-But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45-that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46-If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47-And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48-Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 22:36-40 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 Jesus said to him," 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 "This is the first and great commandment. 39 *"And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."* (the Jesus i believe in taught love as the most important law, and compassion and acceptance as the path to perfection.)

Isn't it curious that our young people overwhelmingly support pro-life activities, yet they support homosexual marriages. Our educators must be clear in their teaching about this uissue. Youth are concerned about civil rights. It is here that the Church needs to make clear and cogent distinctions so that the emotional arguments are replaced with rational reasons for marriage between one man and one woman.

To Respect from MA: God has imparted dignity on all manking as we are made in His image, but he does give us free will and many abuse this freedom! Your choice of words are a trap. You make the claim as if it were fact that God makes people homosexual from birth. I would refute this claim with equal ease and could justify it with evidence. Regardless, God does not make junk or people who are mistakes. All people are made in the image and likeness of God but not one of us save His Son is perfect. That being said, we make bad choices and sometimes, more often today than not, we parent our children apart from the instruction book and the teachings of Christ from the Church. Homosexuality is scientifically tied to a childhood bereft of a loving father. People are still free to make choices and we are all called to a chaste life. Since when do we base laws on one religion? Wake up people.....we are supposed to make our own choices. What I do in my bedroom (as a single woman) is MY BUSINESS. If I die a fiery death because of it, what's it to you? I practice Buddhism. I believe in respecting everyone, regardless of their personal choices. If you do not approve of homosexuality, then don't partake in it....if you do not agree with abortion, don't have one. It is that simple. I do not practice Christianity, but rather than trying to force my beliefs down your throat, I accept you as you are, and I am grateful for the CHOICE to do that. My choices are mine. I have a right to them So do you. No one has a right to shove their beliefs down another's throat. Quit trying to make this country into one religion's beliefs. That is not what America is about. And so what if the President is not Christian????? Again, it is our amendment rights to practice whatever religion we choose. Don't like it? MOVE!

To Daniel from Ireland and James from Springfield: Puerile derision and hateful? What do you mean by that? When one speaks as a faithful Catholic about a person who considers himself homosexual, he is not speaking immaturely or with contempt when he refers to the sin of a homosexual act! If we speak out against an individual person and mock them for their sins, we are at fault and a sinner, but that is not what is going on in this dialogue. We must be able to speak openly about the Truth for the sake of the sinner. It truly is hatred to be silent and allow a person to persist in a decadent and deadly lifestyle. Living a homosexual lifestyle is living in mortal sin. It is a lifestyle for which judgment will mean an eternal separation from God; and it will be by their choice. It is not the will of God for anyone. The Church is not hate mongering when the Church teaches eternal Truth. The Church is truly Christ and therefore truly Love when she shepherds the flock and chases down the lost sheep. May the Bishops never be silent as you wish for that would be the wrath of God!

Maryanne Linkes: Your concerns concerned me.
Undermining god-given dignity: God gave dignity to all people. God also made those who are gay the way they are. I'm not sure I'm ready to say that God makes mistakes. I'd rather focus on the fact that God has given us all free will to choose to stop fearing those we do not understand and instead practice love and tolerance as Jesus taught us. ENDA: It's simple really - hire the best person for the job and ENDA won't come into play. Refuse to hire somebody solely because of their skin color, gender or who they love, and you break the law. Don't Catholic Colleges hire Protestant and Jewish people and hold them accountable to do their job irrespective of their religion? Help me understand how it hurts any institution if the person running the computers or pushing the broom is gay? Hate Crimes: You're right, if you are assaulted and your gay friend are assaulted for no reason other than a bad person is doing bad things to everyone, then it's not a hate crime. If your gay friend is assaulted because they are gay (as evidenced by the assaulter's actions and motivation (the latter of which is too often evidenced by what they say as they are performing the act) then it's a hate crime. Same for your black friend. Why is that anathema to any caring, loving, fair-minded person?

Ya know I support issues to end global warming; believe the 'Car culture' in the nation needs to come to an end ASAP so I don't support bailing out the Big 3. I also oppose Capital Punishment; favor social programs for the poor; have opposed and continue to oppose the evil war being waged in my name in Iraq. Yet, I cannot go along with President-elect Obama on abortion, euthanasia or, as is topical to the article: homosexual civil rights or homosexual marriage. Mr. Obama is positioning himself, step-by-step at place where I will have no choice but actively, aggressively, yet in a moral way oppose him. If he accomplishes what he wishes Christians of all kinds will be designated 'hate-groups' and law-breakers. They'll take schools away from us if we refuse to teach our children that homosexuality is right; they’ll take or close our hospitals if we refuse to distribute contraceptives and perform abortions or euthanasia in them. Ultimately I think, maybe after Mr. Obama's term(s) in office is/are over laws might be in place even allowing federal marshals to enter our churches, during Mass or services, and arrest any priest, deacon or other minister who dares to preach against homosexual behavior or marriage. Sounds crazy? Those who sounded the alarm about the change in the APA designation on homosexuality in 1977 said in time we'd have homosexual marriage. They were called nuts. I am sounding the alarm. Will folks listen?

Its false compassion and false Christianity that says that sin is good. It is not 'love' of neighbor to tell them their chosen sin is good. In fact, that is akin to hating them because you don't want what God wants for them, but what their sinful passions wants of them. You don't love them enough to give them the Truth, and hate them enough to appease them.
Homosexuals are beloved children of God. Just like adulterers, just like thieves and gluttons, pornographers and people who beat their mothers and lie on the witness stand. Beloved. Just like you are. But sin is not of God, and homosexual sexual behavior & sexual practice is sin. That is what it is. What Scripture testifies that it is. What the Church has always taught that it is. Just like adultery and gluttony, just like theft and lying, just like pornography, just like killing your unborn or blaspheming God's name or beating your mother. Sin is sin, and no amount of legislation or societal approval from well meaning people will change what it is. Jesus did warn about the times when men would go about calling good evil and evil good. Times like these, it seems, from the article & some of the comments above.

Daniel...How is it loving God and your neighbor, by approving of his/her sin which will lead to the loss of their soul? To love someone is to be honest, lovingly telling them that to be a practicing homosexual is sinful. An example: If your daughter, son or friend were a drug addict, would you also love their addiction, even though it could kill them? Of course, not. Engaging in homosexual activity is morally damaging to their soul. And if we don't warn them, we could he held accountable for their sin...And James: Every hear of "love the sinner hate the sin"? You can't love both, because that is not love, but actually lack of love if it leads to the loss of their soul.....

In other words, beware of the sin of Pride and the sin of the older brother in the story of the Prodigal son. We need to all pray for mercy and conversion of our hearts.

Whoever believes in the Word of God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, the I Am, the Omniscient and the Power of life - then should consider the word that He has left in the BIBLE and in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. He created Adam and Eve and never Adam and Steve, or Eve and Evelyn. Also the six commandments say, "You Shall Not Kill" and if abortion is not killing - what do you call to that atrocious act of murdering babies by abortion then? Obama is against God's words and no economy or gay rights, or other rights that goes against God’s word may survive if God decides to blow us up all with his nostrils because of our blinded sins.

No one as intelligent as this man is could come off as so morally vapid. I don't believe he believes what is suggested he believes by his proposals. He has to talk the talk right now perhaps.

Obama has further clarified his morally twisted plans for homosexual "rights." However, he ignores the Lord's definition of relationships and marriage, as well as the fact that God defines homosexual relationships as unnatural. He also fails to realize that no country that desires God's blessings should go against His Word:
"Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, Made them male and female? And he said: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh" (Matthew 19:4-5). "Because that, when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God, or given thanks, but became vain in their thoughts, their foolish heart was DARKENED. For professing themselves to be wise, they became FOOLS...Who changed the TRUTH of God into a LIE, and worshipped and served the CREATURE rather than the CREATOR...For this cause God delivered them up to SHAMEFUL affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that use which is AGAINST NATURE. And, in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of the women, have burned in their lusts one towards another, men with men working that which is FILTHY, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due to their error" (Romans 1:21-22, 25-27).

We have a right, to speak out what is right
and what is wrong, and what is just. People refuse to believe, what they do not understand or what is not to their liking, simply because of their own spirit, of pride and independ- ence. This is one of the devils traps; hertics of the past, who denied Tradtion.

Were I American, I probably would have voted for Obama. The alternative was so repugnant. But he has always given me the creeps. His knowledge of society seems limited to grievance-collecting.
He cannot answer why the defense of traditional marriage is divisive by those seeking only to protect it. It it those attacking it who are splitting society. One cannot create equality where the potential does not exist. In their heart of hearts, gays know that no law can turn two men or two women into a man and a woman. Yes, our obligation is to love everyone. That does not mean approval of every demand disguised as a right.

So this is what many Americans voted for? All in the name of sensitivity, caring and true Americanism. Nobody is deriding homosexuals. They are ramming their "rights" down our throats and perverting what God made good. If Obama's laws are passed, including that horrible FOCA bill, 9/11 is going to look like a picnic compared to what is coming.

I agree Daniel, it is time for Catholics to act like Christians with love and not hatred. Bishops should begin to act more like shepherds and less like hate-mongers.

The 'change' that was referred to so commonly during the Obama campaign is now obvious, as it was before to the observant. The problem is that people have lost not only the notion of right and wrong, but of an Abominantion! Both with the 'gay' rights and abortion 'rights'. "those that strengthen the hand of wickedness shall be cut off'!!!!

May God help our country. Everything we stand for, all our rights given to us by God, seems to be falling. Our next president votes against the Fed'l Marriage Amendment Act and wants to push a homosexual agenda. How sad. If he really cared about those who beleive they are homosexual he wouldn't be making it easier for them to live lifes that undermine their God given dignity. Furthermore, why should an action done to a homosexual be treated more serious than the same action taken against me or you. If the action is wrong, it should have the same consequence. If I get robbed and a homosexual gets robbed, why should the crime against him be a hate crime? Why itsn't it a hate crime against me. Pandering to any group is despicable. Also, he will hurt the Church with ENDA - I want to know why anyone thinks they can tell an organization who to hire - expecially when the persons way of life is not in accord with the beliefs of the organization. It is time to speak up.

We aren't against gays themselves it is what they do. What they do is against nature and God and if laws are passed to approve what they do, punishments will come upon humanity. I pray God helps them see the light! I love them, because they are my fellow humanbeings.

It is so pleasant to hear a world leader speaking from a place of love for their neighbour. If only others could remember to love God and their neighbour the puerile derision of homosexual people by so-called Catholics might end and we would see that homosexual people can be valued and loved members of the flock.

Jesus Christ says He is the way, the truth and the "LIFE." Anyone who supports abortion, contraception, and same-sex union rights is ANTI-LIFE, therefore, ANTI-CHRIST. Christ is our LIFE. To be anti-life is to be anti-Christ.
