Obama pledged to Planned Parenthood: “I will not yield” to pro-life concerns
![]() Related articles:
.- On Wednesday a full transcript of Democrat presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama’s July 2007 speech to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in which he vigorously defended legalized abortion became available. In the July 17 speech, Obama attacked the Supreme Court decision that upheld the federal partial-birth abortion ban and the nomination of Supreme Court justices who favor overturning Roe v. Wade. In the speech the senator said, "There will always be people, many of goodwill, who do not share my view on the issue of choice. On this fundamental issue, I will not yield and Planned Parenthood will not yield." Obama based his speech around the question, “What kind of America will our daughters grow up in?” He specifically argued against the Supreme Court decision Gonzales v. Carhart, which upheld restrictions on partial-birth abortion. “For the first time in Gonzales versus Carhart,” Obama said, “the Supreme Court held—upheld a federal ban on abortions with criminal penalties for doctors. For the first time, the Court’s endorsed an abortion restriction without an exception for women’s health. The decision presumed that the health of women is best protected by the Court—not by doctors and not by the woman herself. That presumption is wrong.” He warned abortion supporters that the partial-birth abortion ban should not be construed as an isolated effort, saying it was wrong to presume the law was “not part of a concerted effort to roll back the hard-won rights of American women.” Obama said the decision had encouraged an Alabama lawmaker to introduce a measure to ban all abortions. “With one more vacancy on the Court, we could be looking at a majority hostile to a woman’s fundamental right to choose for the first time since Roe versus Wade and that is what is at stake in this election,” Obama claimed. The senator said he had a long tradition of support for legalized abortion, citing his efforts in the Illinois State Senate and his classes as a law professor. “I have worked on these issues for decades now,” he said. “I put Roe at the center of my lesson plan on reproductive freedom when I taught Constitutional Law. Not simply as a case about privacy but as part of the broader struggle for women’s equality.” The dissent of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg in Gonzales v. Carhart won praise from Obama while Justice Anthony Kennedy, who spoke for the majority, was held up for ridicule. On the topic of judicial appointments, Obama reaffirmed his opposition to the confirmation of Supreme Court Justices Roberts and Alito, who are believed to be hostile to the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide. Obama also depicted his opponents as divisive, saying, “They want us to believe that there’s nothing that unites us as Americans—there’s only what divides us. They’ll seek out the narrowest and most divisive ground.” Senator Obama said he was “absolutely convinced that culture wars are so nineties,” saying it was “time to turn the page.” “We’re tired about arguing about the same ole’ stuff,” he continued. And I am convinced we can win that argument. If the argument is narrow, then oftentimes we lose.” He said abortion advocates should emphasize their support for women to have the “same chances” as men. Laura Echevarria, the political writer and former National Right to Life Committee spokeswoman who transcribed the July speech, criticized Obama’s remarks. "Many Americans see Barack Obama as a kind and compassionate candidate," she said. "However, Mr. Obama's compassion does not extend to our most vulnerable members of society- -unborn children." Massive Abortion Protest Set For 3/31/09
Get a red envelope. You can buy them at Kinkos, or at party supply stores. On the front, address it to President Barack Obama The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW Washington , D.C. 20500 On the back, write the following message. "This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion. It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world. Responsibility begins with conception." We will mail the envelopes out March 31st, 2009. Put it in the mail, and send it. Then forward this event to every one of your friends who you think would send one too. I wish we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died [in the U.S. ] before having a chance to live. It may seem that those who believe abortion is wrong are in a minority. It may seem like we have no voice and it's shameful to even bring it up. Let us show our President and the world that the voices of those of us who do not believe abortion is acceptable are not silent and must be heard. Together we can change the heart of The President and save the lives of millions of children. ....whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever

"America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father's role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts -- a child -- as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters"
And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign." Im anti abortion. But to be honest if i was obama id say ban ALL abortions. The trouble is u cant force it upon women. Its probably because God dosnt force either. He gives us free will. The government could then becaome a dictatorship.

I can't believe anyone would vote to ban partial birth abortion even when the life of the mother is at stake.
You people are nuts. Poverty is the biggest indicator of the abortion rate. Even if you outlawed abortion, they would still happen. History has proven that--- solve the problem don't just complain about the cause. DO SOMETHING BESIDES TALK-- THAT IS ALL THE SO CALLED "PRO-LIFERS" DO -- just point fingers but never DO anything. They don't volunteer, they aren't out there fighting poverty just pointing fingers. RIDICULOUS

It does not make sense to me that anyone who has ever had a child would ever consider abortion as acceptable. I think it is heartless

In 1966, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America gave its first Margaret Sanger Award to Martin Luther King, Jr. And in his acceptance speech, which was delivered by his strong and wonderful wife Coretta, Dr. King wrote, “Our sure beginning in the struggle for equality by non-violent, direct action may not have been so resolute without the tradition established by Margaret Sanger and people like her.”
How can Coretta King have praised Margaret Sanger? Isn't that like unto the European Jews praising Adolf?

Not only is the Good Senator wrong with his stance, he also demonstrates his arrogance, in that, if you don't agree with him you are passe and 90'ish. That is not the acts of a person open to honest dialogue, but more as a person exhibiting characteristics associated with hubris.

Not only is Obama fanatically in favor of abortion, he also hass opposed bills that would ban infanticide. The MSM has not, of course, brought this up so far.

I am outraged! This man supports the slaughter the preborn, stripping disabled people of all their human rights and dignity, and eliminating those that society finds inconvenient. Maybe he should just bypass the presidency and take a high level high paid position with Planned Parenthood. We need leaders who RESPECT LIFE -- all life -- and after reading this article if he wins the nomination for his party I will do everything I can to rally prolife forces across the nation to prevent him becoming president.

Obama says his opponents only want divisivness and seek out the narrowest ground to differ. Life for the unborn is foundational and if you don't understand that the other life issues have no meaning.

Obama raises the question “What kind of America will our daughters grow up in?”
Hello, is anyone awake out there? There will be NO America's daughters for they have all been aborted! This statement is really an oxymoron, "grow up in" really means "murdered die in".

I find it quite ironic that the Democratic party which Obama is a part of, the party that is supposedly for the rights of the poor wants to eliminate the rights of the poorest of the poor-the unborn. Does he realize how this decision affects the African American population?

Mr. Obama - if partial birth abortions are legal, then post-birth euthanasia of presidential candidates is not far behind. Once personhood becomes individually subjective, we are all at risk, and this is not an exaggeration.

Let's see, a great speaker who is an evangelist of sorts who is running for the top political office who promises cures in Health Care, promises to stop war and create peace and through his excellent speaking ability he swoons people of good will to his side in droves. He acts compassionate and down to earth and yet he is the only Senator in the US who would not provide life saving relief to an aborted baby who was found to be still alive after the procedure. He believes that gay marriage is equal to heterosexual marriage and has redefined marriage. He supports gay couples to use invitro-fertilization to have their own children.
I think John McCain is not the best, but I would vote for him anyday than for someone like Obama who supports partial birth abortion which is the sickest thing ever and abortion in general.

One does not yield to good, one yields to evil. Abortion is evil and God gives each of us the ability to know good from evil. Any Christian who sees protecting life as a yielding to, can not be a practicing Christian. Surely any man or woman who sees the unborn as a burden must surely see the living as a cause of that burden. Scary people running for President of America.

Obama may not yield to pro-lifers but he and those like him will eventually have to yield to God's justice. May that day come quickly. Liberal anti-life & immoral agendas=domestic terrorism, which will destroy America faster than any terrorist attack.
