Obama ‘proud’ to have homosexual band march in inaugural parade

.- President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden have officially invited the Lesbian and Gay Band Association to march in the Inaugural Parade. One of the association’s web sites reports that the group will also march in September as part of the homosexual “Southern Decadence” festival infamous for its public lewd acts.

The Lesbian and Gay Band Association (LGBA) is a network of lesbian and gay bands comprised of concert and marching bands from various American cities.

According to a December 10 press release from the Presidential Inaugural Committee, the group’s appearance in the Inaugural Parade on January 20 will mark the first time an “openly LGBT group” has been invited to participate.

"I am honored to invite these talented groups and individuals to participate in the Inaugural Parade," said President-elect Obama.  "These organizations embody the best of our nation's history, diversity and commitment to service. Vice President-elect Biden and I are proud to have them join us in the parade."

The main web site of the Lesbian and Gay Band Association hosts a YouTube video reportedly showing 250 of its members marching in the 35th Annual Village Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village in New York City.

The YouTube video, titled “Male Witch Marching Band – Halloween NYC 08,” shows a glamorously dressed man followed by two people wearing fairy costumes. They lead a band of people dressed as witches who play the song “Gimme Some Lovin’.”

The marchers were attendees at the LGBA’s 2008 conference, titled “Deliciously Wicked.”

“The weekend more than lived up to its name,” the web site states, noting the conference’s receptions, parades, performances, and costume ball.

As of Wednesday morning, the web site for the LGBA’s 2009 conference in New Orleans, lgba2009.org, describes conference plans, saying “We will also be marching in the Southern Decadence Parade on Sunday, September 6th.”

The web site reports that the LGBA conference will be held as part of Southern Decadence and Decafest. The site links to the Southern Decadence festival, which has often been targeted for protest because of its extreme indecency. In 2003, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that it had “become routine” for men to flash their genitals and perform public sex acts at the event, which bills itself as “the Gay Mardis Gras.”

“The city's wildest neighborhood gets even crazier as the French Quarter is packed for the entire event,” the Southern Decadence festival’s current web site says. In its Frequently Asked Questions section, the web site tells those with “an interest in the adult film business” that a pornographic filmmaker will be in attendance.

In a statement on its web site, the LGBA said its participation in the Presidential Inaugural will be “truly our chance to make history.”

Organizations wishing to participate in the parade reportedly submitted an application to the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, which assisted the Presidential Inaugural Committee in reviewing applications. Experienced military musicians evaluated the presentation skills of marching bands, musical acts, and drill teams.

In total, 1,382 organizations applied to participate in the Inaugural Parade. Many of the groups approved to march in the parade are high school bands.

JESUS CHRIST said, "love one another", PERIOD.How YOU dare to blaspheme God by feeling you're so pure and so UNIQUE that you can JUDGE as him about how good or bad it is to be homosexual. If there is love, let them be. Hitler was doing harm, he attempted others lives. Gay and Lesbian they do nothing to you or anyone in this world. So STOP interfering with Jesus Christ's great will: Love One Another.

As a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus I can say with authority that we do not honor those Homosexual-Pederants with a parade. But NAMBLA marches in the Gay Pride Parades. Also what used to be called Lewd (public sex at Rest Stops by groups of Gay Men) have been deemed a "part of the Gay Lifestyle" by a MA judge and MA State Police are not allowed to interfere.

Murder has always been a sin. Stealing has always been a sin. Adultery has always been a sin. Performing homosexual acts has always been a sin. Sorry, but here is the Truth. Should we change Christ's teaching to fit our lifestyles and will, or change our will and lifestyles to fit Christ's teachings? All of us, take up our cross every day.

To clarify, many of the "risque" photos in this youtube "broadcast" (i.e. lingering images of men in tights and superhero outfits) were from the costume party on Halloween, which is when Delicously Wicked conference was held. Get it? The "male-witch" band (not all males) was from the same parade and it was actually the Big Apple Corps from NYC.

Why is it that some people think that all Gays support those histrionics in the parades? As a devoted Taxpayer, Physician, and altruist, this offends me very much, and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that. I would also like to point out that Gays do not hate people for being Catholic or Mormon, but we don't support religious bullying through legislation... that is probably not the best way to put it, but that's what i wrote for lack of better wording. People should not try to be an expert on things that they don't know about.

Thanks so much, ryryp23, for posting this. I'm a 51 year old physician who was raised Catholic and have been gay all my life. I'd like to respond:

Pride is not an attribute according to the Bible, and homosexual sex is not just any sin but an abomination in God's eyes.

More than half of the American people voted to live in this forthcoming "changed" Obama Nation, not knowing or maybe caring about the full definition of what that change would be. I wasn't one of them.

I believe the one who sums it all up for everyone on Earth was The Lord, Jesus Christ.
For even he said that he came to earth not to sit with the just but to visit the poor in spirit. By being their friends, not judging, nor condemning, but showing them what more a person they can be than what was how other people treated them. If someone makes an error to be good, first jusge your thoughts and your heart. For whatever comes out of your heart will defile yourself. And if you can not show compassion, nor can not show good faith in that person who has made an error in their judgement; then you too will be judged by Him that rules over everyone.

Matt. chap 5. verse 21

21 You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not kill. And whosoever shall kill, shall be in danger of the judgment. But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment.

It is better to better that persons friend, and always be there for them. For when they will change their heart, and see their error then we can be there for them to welcome them to God.

Mike,

Perhaps you need to read up on the findings of the sexual abuse scandal, because it was in fact *homosexuals* who were the perpetrators of sexual abuse of children, according to the study conducted by the John Jay Criminal College.

This goes without surprise considering the large number of homosexual priests that exist in seminaries and the fact that many of the boys molested by gay priests were post pubescent.

It is homosexuals who are responsible for the sexual abuse scandal, and not well ordered heterosexual Catholic priests.

For this reasons, homosexuals are no longer allowed into seminaries- and rightfully too

(Part II) Because a life that is lived to the letter of the law but is lacking the Spirit will not save you. This doesn't mean that we can do what we want. A life of the Spirit will be a life of sacrifice, of discretion and asceticism, and of forgiveness. And the key to it is to love all and to help others find the Spirit too.

We should not hate homosexuals and we should not decry homosexuality any more than any other sin. I'm convinced that if Jesus were walking the earth today one place that we'd find him is outside of a gay bar. Though we don't know what he'd say to them, we can be sure it would be similar to what he said the woman in John 8, "neither do I condemn you... go away and don't sin again."

So we're in a tricky position with this parade. To encourage people to celebrate their own sin and to not repent of it is a sin itself. And there's also the scandal that having this group gives to the whole world. Having them there encourages others to believe that homosexual acts are not a sin and leads others into sin.

On the other hand, we're all sinners, so all parades will be a parade of sinners. On a personal level, we should be kind, loving and respectful of homosexuals. More people will be open to Jesus if we are kind to them personally. We don't have to tell each stranger who is gay that they're a sinner. When the time is right, then explain what you believe. But we should always oppose public sin like this, but in a way that is respectful.

Mike, you're factually wrong about the Popes and slavery. The popes condemned the enslavement of Africans from the 15th century (before Columbus even) up till its end in the 19th century. Check out [the CFPeople apologetics website]for more about that.

Though the popes tried to end slavery in America, the bishops here would not follow his orders. Whenever Rome says one thing and your bishops do another, trust Rome.

The Church in the New World has always been multiracial. We've had people like St. Martin de Porres and St. Juan Diego for over four hundred years. In my home town of Washington, DC, the Catholic Church during slave times was open to Blacks and treated blacks as equals. It was our Protestant brethren who split into to communities, one white, one black, over the issue of race, not the Catholic Church.

Having said all this, you can't compare racial groups to homosexuality. The latter is an inclination and a behavior. The inclination itself, though disordered, is not a sin, but the behavior is always a grave matter.

Now, there is a second problem and that is how do we minister to people, gay and straight, in the best way? While we shouldn't use words that hurt, we also still have to speak the truth. And the truth is that Jesus came to save us from a life of slavery to sin and of the flesh. The whole message of Jesus is not just a matter of don't do this and don't do that. (Continued)

Gayla,

From the Vatican

Chastity and homosexuality

2357

Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,140 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."141 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. [red]Under no circumstances can they be approved.

Perhaps you need to rethink identifying as a ‘commited Catholic woman’? You clearly are not in **full communion with Rome**

Mike, let me enlighten you - first, past wrongs don't make current wrongs right. A few bad priests does not make the church bad. The vatican better get their noses further into our business before we end up like Sodom and Gomorrah. Gay behavior is sickening, perverse, and ultimately will end in the destruction of mankind if allowed to continue. They can't reproduce in their 'natural' state. I wish everyone would just get over the perverts.

I'm really at a loss about what the problem is here. This is a band of of people who are gay. We are not in a position to judge to know how these people live their lives. Less than 200 years ago when the Vatican had slaves working on it's property and the Jesuits had black slaves working on their fields in Maryland, I'm sure many folks would have been up in arms if a black person was in a parade as well. We have no idea if these gay folks are celebate (as many priest are) and it is not germain to their marching in the band. They identify themselves as gay and they are proud. Good for them. Shame on the Vatican for butting into the afairs of the United States of America. The Vatican has enough problems already dealing with the sexual abuse scandle and the cover up. Something about a log and a sliver of wood. May God have grace on us all.

A M McIntire,

You purport to be Catholic, yet the Church which you claim to be a member of has dogmatically claimed that homosexual actively is objectively and instrinscially disordered.

There is no such thing as a pro abortion Catholic (they are excommunicated automatically) and a practicing gay Catholic. Your very life style is antithetical to all that the Church teaches without error.

Judging a persons actions, i.e. distinguishing between wrong and right actions is not tantamount to ‘judging’ people either.

These organizations are so repulsive. Homosexuality cannot be painted in any other way than what it is, sinful, immoral, unnatural, perverted. Every sane and moral person and group must continually fight against those who would legitimize this lifestyle with marriage or any other legality. Backing down to the militant gay agenda will lead America further into the cesspool of decadence, and like the Romans and other pagan empires, we will ultimately lose God's blessings and be destroyed.

Funny how some Christians don't think this applies to everyone. This band has every right to represent its community as much as anyone else in the parade. The parade is about America. The gay community is a part of the American fabric of life, whether you think they are sinners or not. We do NOT live in a theocracy.

To all of you who think that homosexuality is the same as heterosexuality, take a look at it yourself. Google the words "cruising spots." Take a look at how many places like this there still are, where they are, and what goes on there. Or read the back section of any homosexual newspaper in the country. What you'll find are ads for male prostitutes, random sex with total strangers, as well as ads from psychologists to deal with the consequences of this way of life - therapy for depression, alcohol and drug abuse, suicide, and ads for AIDS treatments.

I was in the homosexual world for thirty years before leaving it. Don't believe one word of what an active homosexual tells you about his life. They will lie, cover up and distort what really goes on. If any of you has friends who are homosexuals, remember that you only see what they want you to see. You see them at work or on the weekend, or at dinner. You don't see what they do when you're not around, and they won't tell you.

If you want to find out the truth, log on to gay.com's chat rooms, where the most popular chat room is the "Dad/Son" room, which is all about incest. Other rooms are devoted to urine, humiliation and sadism.

Close to 40% of the children who are sexually abused are boys who are abused by another man. Yet homosexuals aren't even 5% of the population.

Evil things happen in the straight world. But the homosexual world is far more evil because it's organized around something that is wrong.

The Christian reaction to this article is not about being judgemental or bigoted toward the people, it's about honoring God's laws, which include the teaching that homosexuality is indecent and immoral. That's called sin and keeps one from a close relatioinship with God. The Chrisatain view, in my opinion, is about hating the idea of promoting a group that prides itself in shoving there sinfulness in God's face, and our government officials embracing that. To those who love to smear Christians with accusations of bigotry and intolerance, realize that there is a great chasm between what the world calls good and evil, and what actually is. How can you people be so glib about this perversion? Oscar, ancient Rome thought queer behavior was there to stay, also, and they fell. Don't you understand that homosexual behavior is not conducive to the survival of mankind? It's about SEX. How come there are no pedophiles marching? Bestialists? Mark F. is right - look at them! They don't want to blend in - they want to stand out because of their sexual orientation, and have all kinds of special favors and perks to go with it.

Shame on CNA for so quickly conflating the actions of a few people at Southern Decadence with a marching band receiving an honor from the highest office in the USA. That's simply bad reporting, biased and unfair.

"And you guys call yourselves Christians."

Excuse me, Louise, but how can it be un -Christian to criticize a band that promotes an un-Christian practice?

God's word calls the practice of homosexual
sex an "abomination"
(Leviticus 18:22).
And that is what this band is promoting. They
aren't just a band composed of gay members. They are a band promoting a lifestyle which I and many other Americans believe to be immoral.
And our President-elect is proud of it!!!

Nevertheless, to label someone "homosexual" is a misnomer. They are human beings first, who happen to have a disordered same-sex attraction.

I understand all the religious objection. However, the G&L community is here to stay. They are citizens with all the rights of the rest of us. Should Obama exclude them if they behave? I think not. We already did this at one point based upon race. When will we learn?

With all the finacial problems going on in the country and our troops dying every day for oil and our freedom, this is what CNA is worrying about? So a GLBT marching band is going to be the parade, why is that such a big deal? It's not like they are going to be disrespectful and indecent. It's funny that this article doesn't mention anything about the extreme indecency and sex that goes on every year during Annual Mardi Gras the day before Ash Wednesday which is a Holy Day for the Catholic Church.

I'm glad to see you're upset about this marching band. I've found that, whenever you publish your objections to something, it usually means the country is on the right track.

Good for Obama, I say: Recognizing the glory of a diverse nation.

Even when I was a practicing homosexual, I saw that these bands are nothing to be proud about. Take a look at the picture above of them. They are very effeminate and affected looking. Deep down these men are filled with shame and self-hatred over the way they act. I have to work in the inauguration in DC, but I plan to spend my time inside the Smithsonian reading the Bible rather than participating in this anti-Christian spectacle. We all need to rely on Christ more in these times, because this Obama man hates Christianity.

"Gay pride" as an expression of identity is OK in my book. I accept this from many segments of our society to whom I have serious aversions. But "lewd conduct" is something that needs to be strictly enforced and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

How small minded CNA is! With global poverty, disease, and climatic meltdown to work against, it spends its time on the musical program of the inauguration. Yes, bands play in all sorts of events. Big deal!

Jack,
I'm a member of the NYC band, and will march in the Inaugural. I'm also a Christian. I would like to know, how is it blasphemy for the secular leader of a non-theocracy to invite a group who represents 10% of his population?

The article is presumably about LGBA participating in the inauguration parade. That you talk about in the first four(4) paragraphs then you talk about Halloween and Southern Decadence for seven(7) paragraphs. The 12th paragraph is about LGBA and the inauguration followed by two paragraphs of general information. What's your point? I still call this an editorial and not a news article.

One of the things that amazes me about religion is how it brings people together. One of the things that also amazes me about religion is that it tends to breed hatred and violence. If we have learned anything from the random acts of violence relating to 9/11 and other atrocities, it's that we should embrace the good in people, not the bad. If we treat these people as anything less than good people, that is what they will become. I am ashamed to be associated with a religion that judges judges without regard. What we should do is embrace diversity and educate.

What is not mentioned in this article is the amount of heterosexual debauchery and lewd behavior that goes on every day in the streets of the French Quarter. I have been to the French Quarter and witnessed it first hand. It is not uncommon, especially during Mardi Gras, for women and men alike to expose themselves in public and to have sex in public. How can we call ourselves good Catholics or good Christians if we ignore these facts? Shouldn't we clean ourselves up before judging others? It completely invalidates the cause. For that matter, is it our place to judge these people? If memory serves me correct, it is blasphemous for man to place judgement on another man. That is a task that is strictly left for God.

Very sad. Obama refused to let the marching band from the largest public high school in Springfield, Illinois (you know, the capitol city of the state he respreseneted) march in the parade

The bias of this article is so blatant. Your quotations are made totally out of context in order to make your point. You don't think LGBA should be participating. This is really and editorial, not news article.

I would like to see every other band, especially the high school bands, pull out. I wouldn't let my high school kid participate. Sick, sick, sick. I fail to see how this sort of thing is promoting unity in our nation. Just more divisiveness. Shove perversion down our throats.
