Petition protesting Obama speech at Notre Dame nearing 90,000
Related articles:
.- In response to the announcement that the pro-abortion “rights” President Barack Obama will deliver the commencement address at Notre Dame, CatholicVote.org has partnered with the Cardinal Newman Society to establish a web petition for Catholics and others who wish to protest the university’s invitation of the president. Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote.org, characterized the president as “a champion of the abortion cause,” citing his support for embryo-destructive research and taxpayer-funded abortion. “Given President Obama’s utterly shameful record on life, how could a Catholic university honor him?” Burch asked. “The University could have politely and quietly told the White House that their standing invitation to the President of the United States was not available this year. Better yet, they could have said that while they would welcome his contributions to the public debate over how to solve our economic crisis, his regrettable policies in favor of a culture of death make it impossible for them to welcome him.” Saying that CatholicVote.org has spoken with professors, students and leaders at Notre Dame in recent days, he said they together concluded that a massive protest will be “practically difficult and even counterproductive” and could “create exactly the wrong impression.” Burch explained that the university could act to prevent protestors from entering campus and might legally arrest those who do. He then announced CatholicVote.org’s partnership with the Cardinal Newman Society to establish a petition at www.NotreDameScandal.com. “Together our aim is to collect thousands of signatures and present them to University officials. Sign the petition now,” he exhorted, also asking those who are concerned to contact Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins. As of Tuesday afternoon, the petition had more than 87,500 signatures. He also encouraged local groups to organize for a May 17 afternoon prayer of reparation, adding that there would be a “peaceful and prayerful” gathering at the Grotto on the campus of Notre Dame. Notre Dame should not have invited Pres. Obama nor should he receive an honorary law degree. He is the most pro-abortion president we've ever had and it's a disgrace that a Catholic university would invite him to its commencement exercises.
Because of this and past anti-Catholic practices, Notre Dame should instead be called Notre Shame or Notre Damned. And, until it straightenes itself out and gets back in line with correct Church teachings, it should remove the word "Catholic" from its charter --- or have it removed.

WHERE ARE THE BISHOPS, ARCHBISHOPS, CARDINALS AND PATRIARCH'S. YOU WILL NOT SEE THEM WHERE THEY SHOULD BE & THAT IS ON THE GROUNDS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME PROTESTING THE ABORTIONIST BARACH HUSSEIN OBAMA'S RANT ON THEIR COMMENCEMENT DAY. A GOOD ANALOGY WOULD HAVE A BASTARD LIKE ADOLF HITLER SPEEKING AT AN ADL CONVENTION OR POPE BENEDICT 16 SPEEKING AT A PLANNED PRENTHOOD ABORTION SEMINAR. WHERE ARE THE FAT COMFORTABLE CATHOLIC BISHOPS, ARE THEY NOT CALLED TO LEAD, WHY ARE THEY "CATHOLIC BISHOPS" NOT GETTING THEMSELVES ARRESTED ON "CATHOLIC" UNIVERSITY PROPERTY BY THE SOCIALIST PRIESTS THAT RUN THAT FORMER CATHOLIC SCHOOL. WHY IF "FR"JENKINS NOT BEING LAISIZED ALONG WITH THE "RELIGIOUS" ORDER AND AUTOCRATS THAT RUN THAT UNIVERSITIES BOARD. NOTRE DAME IS NO LONGER A CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY. THE APOSTATES THAT RUN THAT SCHOOL NEED TO FEEL THE POWER OF EX-COMMUNICATION, WHAT A JOKE.

How can you arrest a Catholic priest peacefully protesting on the Notre Dame campus while honoring a pro abortionist? I was raised Catholic and over the years I have distanced myself from the Catholic faith because of things like this. Inviting Obama to Notre Dame sends the wrong message. The Catholic Church needs to stand for what's right. The church does not know right from wrong. I do.

Notre Dame invites Obama and then protests him.
The media keeps broadcasting the protest of having President Obama deliver a commencement speech for its graduation ceremony. It didn't occur to any reporter that Obama didn't invite himself to be the speaker. I'll give Notre Dame credit for remembering that its administration invited Obama with its intention to inflame the abortion issue with protests. The only other possible issue would be stupidity. Obama's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel never questioned a potential protest on the abortion issue. Posted by Just Cause Just Facts at 10:28 AM

Obama's going to Notre Dame is like a person from the KKK going to NAACP gathering.
A moral priest stating the truth; an amoral President who places near aborted live babies in blankets in a side room to die while crying for nourishment from their mothers. This man defiles the building and campus of Notre Dame.

This all seems to be entirely out of perspective.
Notre Dame is an institution of higher learning - it's students will understand perfectly well that parts of Obama's policies are not in agreement with Catholic faith. ... and, so what? Let him come. Let them discuss why the church is against these views. Listen to the guy speak because you are mature enough, and sure enough of your own beliefs, to bear the presence of someone not sharing these. Listen to what he has to say, and then discuss it over dinner with your friends and family - talk about why you disagree with what he believes in. Talk about what you agree with him about (he seems to be doing better with the war than your last president...). Surely this can do nothing but strengthen and renew faith. No hysteria. This is an amazing opportunity for those people graduating to hear a truly extraordinary man speak. I sincerly doubt that the Notre Dame president aims to undermine the faith of the college in any way.

I believe "Fr. Peter" must really be Fr. Flager if he really is a priest. He certainly does not follow the magesterium in obedience if he is.
A good thing for Notre Dame to do to begin to recover the honor it once held, would be to publicly retract Obabma's invitation - stating all the items that are an affront to Christians in general and Catholics in particular; Federal support of embryonic stem cell research, recognition of homosexual marriage, unrestricted abortion and federal financing thereof, federal funding of a radical group, ACORN, that violates the sanctity of our elections, the intentional destruction of our economy-dooming the future for our children and grand children, the attack on the traditional family, rewarding of irresponsibility and so on.

Catholic's are pro-life, this has nothing to do with RACE as some of you continue to use, not everything is about race, let that one die, its a belief, which the president obviously doesn't honor!!!! Kudos for standing up to beliefs and stick to this topic, yes molestation is bad, but that is not what's being discussed right now!

What is the difference between Cardinal Egan inviting and accepting candidate Obama to the Al Smith dinner in New York in October, 2008 versus Notre Dame's inviting the candidate now turned President Obama? Was he pro-life back in October?
Until the Church starts excommunicating and denying the sacraments to Pelosi, to Kerry, to Kennedy, etc. for having sponsored and passed legislation inimicial to Catholic dogma, its protests against Notre Dame only give an objective observer the appearance of political grandstanding. This isn't the only instance of moral inconsistency that causes even Catholics to wonder how broken is the Church's moral compass. For example, what is the great revealed truth that is being upheld by denying women the right to enter the priesthood versus the honor and respect the Church pays to Mary? Not even St. Peter rises to her level in the pantheon of Catholic saints.

As an older Catholic, and a Catholic priest, I remember vividly the overt racism that prompted Catholics to confront angrily anyone of color who dared to attend their "White" parish church! I wonder how many posting here are using abortion as a front for venting their racism? The deep hatred expressed for our President is abhorrent to many of us who support life and is not Christian and has no place in a protest against those who support abortion rights.

I would encourage any faithful parents who have children ready to enter college to heed DSM's warning. If the majority of students at Notre Dame voted for Obama, clearly the institution is not doing its job in teaching young Catholics their faith. Voting for the most pro-abortion candidate in American history? There is something wrong here. Use the Newman Guide to find a truly Catholic college and mark ND off the list!

I bet you would have good old Bush Jr come to speak at Notre Dame even though he drained our pockets and killed many of innocent civilians in Iraq while claiming to be Christian. Let's face it Americans don't know their own religion and if they did, they wouldn't like it. Obama will speak at notre Dame or anywhere else that he wants to share his message of hope. Fr. Jenkins and the university could easily solve this dilemma by declaring itself no longer a Catholic university. Of course, it may have trouble scrubbing itself of religious symbols such as the Lady on the Dome, Sacred Heart Basilica, and "Touchdown Jesus," but at least it would be lowering the level of hypocrisy on campus.

Notre Dame is a CATHOLIC University. Calling oneself Catholic means following the teachings of the Catholic Church. President Obama supports abortion, something viewed as an evil by the Catholic Church. Also, when did the defense of innocent human life become something fanatical? Finally, shame on any person who call them self Catholic who voted or supports President Obama.

When we do not want the President of the US to speak anywhere in the US because we do not agree with his stand on an issue, it is really a sad, sad day for all but those who want to squelch free speech. Throughout history the suppression of free speech in the name of morality and "We know best" has always resulted in disaster. Peace

A petition, how nice! I'll bet Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins will just read it and immediately cancel the invite to President Obama. NOT!!
This seems like a parallel exercise to the church hierarchy trying every trick in the book to get catholics to vote against President Obama. The reality: a higher percentage of catholics voted for President Obama than did the general population. Yep, those thinking, concerned, responsible catholics, way beyond one-issue voting, were more concerned with the future of this country than with the political power of the church hierarchy. In a country based on freedom of speech, on separation of church and state, on individual liberty - it is rewarding to see a renowned catholic university open its doors to dialogue, respect and free speech. Cheers! RCharles
