Pope asks for prayer to achieve visible unity of all Christians
Related articles:
.- Pope Benedict developed his catechesis at the general audience on Wednesday around the theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The Pope spoke of the importance of "visible unity between Christians," inviting the faithful to invoke the Lord's assistance to "develop fraternal relations and promote dialogue." This year's Week focuses on the Bible verse, "you are witnesses of these things," which Benedict XVI meditated on through two questions: the first, "What are these things?" and the second, "How can we be witnesses of these things?" "The mystery of the Passion and the gift of the Resurrection" are the answers to the first question, explained the Pope, who added that "by knowing Christ we know the face of God" and "in Christ, the distant becomes close." We can be witnesses to "these things," he continued, "by knowing Him personally, ... and truly meeting Him in our life of faith, and thus we can contribute to the novelty of the world, to eternal life." The Holy Father affirmed the evolution of the ecumenical movement in the last 100 years to its current role in promoting fraternal relations between Churches and ecclesial communities. He also commented on the scope and success of the movement, saying, "Since Vatican Council II the Catholic Church has forged fraternal relations with all the Churches of the East and ecclesial communities of the West.” With most of these groups, he continued, she "has been able to find points of convergence, even consensus, on various matters, thus strengthening our bonds of communion.” "Over the last twelve months, the various dialogues have made important progress," the Pope pointed out, referring specifically to the 10th anniversary of Catholic-Lutheran dialogue established within the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification and progress in talks with the Anglican Church. Pope Benedict underscored that the unity of Christians is fundamental to spreading the Gospel to the non-Christian world, asking how Christians can be credible in announcing Christ as "the only Savior of the world and our peace" if we are not unified in facing a "world that does not know Christ." The Holy Father added that much has been done to establish dialogue with the Eastern Churches and ecclesial communities in recent history and that progress "has been achieved in collaboration and in fraternity in all these years." However, he continued, "Ecumenical work is not a linear process, the old problems that arose in another age lose their importance, giving way to problems and difficulties of our own time. For this reason we must always be willing to accept a process of purification, through which the Lord makes us capable of unity." The Pope wrapped up his speech by reaffirming the need for a shared witness to Christ and inviting prayer "for the complex ecumenical reality (and) for the promotion of dialogue." Indeed the unity of Christian churches is a fulfillment of prophecy. However, Catholics are unlikely to recognise this as the Catholic church puts itself above the Bible.
Revelation tells us to leave apostate churches, yet the Pope is saying that all churches should join together. There is only one truth, and that is that Christ is man's only intecessor and that He does not recognise the Pope.
Neither, therefore, should we. If you believe you are a Christian but you don't know the Bible personally, you are deceiving yourself.
May God be with you to open your eyes to the need of personal study of the Bible aside of any 'human interpretation'.

I am advocating that all Christians must ultimately be Catholic or Universal Christians for a true unity. I believe that the Roman Catholic Church is the one true Church. This is the reason for my conversion. In truth it is the prayer God hears from all people who pray to him in earnest and that is the only way to a sense of unity among peoples currently. The Eucharist is capable of changing the entire world as Mother Angelica would advocate. I Agree! Thankyou Ken.

DLL, for protestants to partake in the Holy Eucharist, they must be in full communion with Christ's one, holy, catholic, apostolic Church. And if this became the case, they would not be protestants anymore. They would need to stop rejecting parts of Christ's Gospel, the Truth, as well as leave behind their many various man-made doctrines, that came about due to the deceit of Satan. I am afraid that full visible unity of all Christians on this planet will never come about until protestants begin accepting the Holy Spirit's guidance toward the one Church, which requires a miracle from God that we should certainly continue praying for. Visible unity of all will arrive when all finally accept humbly (with us Catholics being careful to remain humble, including me) the power of the Holy Spirit, who maintains the integrity of the one Church in matters of faith and morals just as the Spirit maintained Scripture as they were being written by the inspired human authors. From the prayer listed by Francis, "the unity of Thy truth".

Unity can only happen when all the Churches act with love and humility.
If we are rigid in our approach then we are not acting with sincerity. We are all part of the body of Christ. He does not make any distinction we are all one in His eyes.
The Churches can go on dialoging for another century but we the people want Unity. We the people have a voice and there is an opportunity for all of us to act. Let us at least celebrate Easter on the same day every year. Let the world see that we are at least UNITED on the date of Jesus Christ death and resurrection. WHAT A POWERFUL WITNESS OF UNITY FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD. With this act of humility and the prayers of the faithful, the Holy Spirit will come down on us with full force to show us the way to unity. JOIN IN THE WORLD WIDE PETITION FOR ONE DATE FOR EASTER.
It is through our actions that we show our sincerity. PEACE, LOVE AND UNITY

Christian unity is a matter of understanding the Catholic Mass and specifically it's Eucharist. To also understand that the liturgical year begins with Advent and ends with Christ the King. This is why every Catholic Mass is so important as it is a weekly episode that brings unity of the Christian catechesis to the entire Biblical and Gospel message. Mass is an obligation and as a result for every Catholic must not miss a single Mass. As a former Protestant it was not essential that one would have to attend the one 10AM service offered each Sunday and prayer was nice but only as needed, for a time as it might be necessary. Prayer must become essential for all Christians daily,as they should all be happy to pray, and I believe that the Holy Eucharist must be understood universally and practiced by both Catholics and Protestants,if Christian unity is to be a real reality in the future. Prayer is always important and a way to appeal for atonement of all sins and for hope when all peoples concentrate on their efforts to ask God to help them to achieve a lasting world at peace. Prayer is an essential function for every major world religion. Pray always! All have dignity and a right to a life of peaceful co-existence. Prayer should always be respective of these rights.

From the 1962 Missal:
"Let us pray also for heretics and schismatics: that our Lord God would be pleased to rescue them from all their errors; and recall them to our holy mother the Catholic and Apostolic Church.
Let us pray. Let us kneel down. R. Arise
Almighty and everlasting God, who savest all, and wouldst that no one should perish: look on the souls that are led astray by the deceit of the devil; that having set aside all heretical evil, the hearts of those that err may repent, and return to the unity of Thy truth." Through our Lord…R. Amen
