Fr. Larry Richards

.- Pennsylvania Catholic priest Fr. Larry Richards, aiming to clear up “gender confusion” and to challenge men to pursue holiness, has released a new book titled “Be A Man: Become the Man God Created You to Be.”

In the book, Fr. Richards recounts his own efforts to learn “true manhood” and shares inspiring stories from men he has counseled and served in his decades as a priest, a press release from Ignatius Press says.

He encourages men to appreciate the differences between men and women, to set the right goals in life, to acknowledge personal faults and limitations, and to be masculine without being “macho.”

“Would you take a bullet if someone was raping your wife?” is one of his provocative questions to men.

Be A Man looks at King David, St. Paul, and Jesus as role models for men.

“Jesus Christ Himself reveals to us what it is to be a man,” Fr. Richards said. “It is about taking the one life that God has given us and give it away. When men are invited to die for others, they put others’ needs above their own. To be like Christ, and like all great men, will cost men their very lives.”

“There is a difference in the way men and women were created,” he remarked. “Men are not called to be women and vice versa. We are different – not better, but different – and men are called to be fully men. This needs to be dealt with up front because it’s a problem – in the Catholic Church and in the world itself.”

Fr. Richards said he encourages men to become men of “true love and wisdom” and to pursue holiness and find strength in faith and love. Each chapter of his book ends with a list of tasks that must be accomplished and questions for discussion and reflection.

“Read the book. Accomplish the tasks at the end of each chapter, no matter how hard or how “hokey” you may think them to be,” Fr. Richards urged. “I guarantee that if a man commits himself to each task and challenge, in the end his life will be changed forever!”

Be A Man is published by the San Francisco-based Ignatius Press.

Wonderful book. I bought it for my husband and 2 sons for Christmas! Ladies, if you love HIM, this would be a great valentine's Day gift for the "other" man in your life!

A man should be able to look at his male form and realize that Christ took on the male form. God became incarnate in the form of a man. Christ is the perfect role model for every man. God who is sacred in the form of Jesus Christ, has given every man his ultimate dignity,if that man chooses to follow in the way of Christ. Our Holy Mother Mary, through her perfect faith, has become the perfect role model for every woman. If men follow in the way of Christ and women live with a perfect faith in God,that Mary has, than there is hope,so perfect love abides and all experience the simple fact that God is love. Peace in Christ!

Thankyou Fr. Larry. We welcome the reminders that men are called to be holy and serve the master Jesus without compromise to the forces in our culture that seek to to fragment. Through Jesus, men can attain a center and be able to stand up for the most vulnerable among us.

Thank you for writing this book, Fr. Richards! I was taken aback when I saw the title, because every time I see a teenager or a man who is acting obviously gay, or is very effeminate, I pray the following prayer: 'Lord, please help him to be the man that you created him to be.' Praise the Lord!

Men are brainwashed into being misogynistic monsters these days through the use of porn, violent movies, cults of celebrities, drugs, alcohol, etc. It is excellent to see somebody so genuinely sincere and caring, instructing men how to be hu-man. Unfortunately, the gays and monsters have infiltrated many levels of society and have created cesspits worse than Sodom and Gomorrah. The men in that place even tried to rape the angels. St Paul in Romans I: 18-32 was SO ACCURATE in his description of men and women in an inferior society - and the end will be the same for us/them as it was for Sodom and Gomorrah. Be a Man should be compulsory reading in every Catholic school.

Look at Fr. Larry's smile: he looks so happy, w/o guile, the 'child' Christ says we all have to be to get to Heaven...I can just tell he's a nice man, and someone I'd want a blessing from...

Fr. Richards has done numerous talks explaining the real teachings of the Church. I would recommend you seek them out and listen to them. It would be great to have men be men within the Church - and stand up for Christ's Bride, as they stand up for their own bride. For we are the guardians of His Church, as St. Joseph was the guardian of the Holy Family. I hope to get the book soon... Bob

Sadly, it appears that 'being a man' today is measured by one's concern for the Yankees. Our Lady said, 'People would think of nothing but amusements.' That statement is sure a mirror of our present day, as far as men AND women are concerned. These are dire times. We need men and women armed with the truth-Jesus Christ-to morally endure these times.
