Satan behind media attacks on the Pope, asserts Italian exorcist
![]() Father Gabriele Amorth
Related articles:
.- Noted Italian exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth, commented this week that the recent defamatory reporting on Pope Benedict XVI, especially by the New York Times, was “prompted by the devil.” Speaking to News Mediaset in Italy, the 85-year-old exorcist noted that the devil is behind “the recent attacks on Pope Benedict XVI regarding some pedophilia cases.” “There is no doubt about it. Because he is a marvelous Pope and worthy successor to John Paul II, it is clear that the devil wants to ‘grab hold’ of him.” Father Amorth added that in instances of sexual abuse committed by some members of the clergy, the devil “uses” priests in order to cast blame upon the entire Church: “The devil wants the death of the Church because she is the mother of all the saints.” “He combats the Church through the men of the Church, but he can do nothing to the Church.” The exorcist went on to note that Satan tempts holy men, “and so we should not be surprised if priests too … fall into temptation. They also live in the world and can fall like men of the world.” More on attacks on Pope Benedict: Despite attacks, Pope's teachings remain, Vatican journalist observes New York Daily News urges ‘Fairness for the Pope’ Cardinal Levada denounces NY Times media attacks on Pope as 'deficient' Subscriber comments:

I haven't heard any say clearly that the first and last abuse is abuse of authority.
A sin of ego, systemic, traditional
arrogance. This isn't weakness of flesh,
but of spirit and mind. We are being lead by evil forces in high places as Peter put it. Is the result any surprise?
The exorcist himself excuses child abuse but not exposing abuse of authority.
And by the way, Jesus himself said as you do to the least of these, you do to him. He also never mentioned homosexuality not once. And Paul never
met him.

Could Pope Benedict XVI and Cardinal Sodano please help Catholics understand why they both used the terms ´petty gossip´. Were they both referring to the sexual abuse by clergy or to its reporting in the media, or to both?
Had it not been reported in the media, how would Catholics have found out?
How should Catholics protect themselves from abusive priests, sexually or otherwise?
How should we go to confession or recommend others to do so given abusive priests, sexually or otherwise?
Should we recommend confession to children?
Suppose a priest wants to get to know more about one as a parishooner and suggests a meeting and one agrees but clearly explains that one doesn´t want to go cofession with him. Suppose that when one goes to the meeting days later the priest begins it by saying: "Do you want to confess your sins?" Is that abuse?
Suppose the same priest says in mass that Catholics must be willing to die for the church (no mention of Christ), what should one think and tell him?

You are seriously delusional to believe that the horrible crimes committed by these priests will be ignored. What is worse, is that they are being protected by the powers of the Catholic Church, which then makes the Institution also at fault. Who is the Sinner here? If the priests had repented and the church had done something to deal with these atrocities and admitted wrongdoing, then I am sure people would have been more forgiving. To now say, that those accusing the Church are influenced by Satan? Well, I simply have nothing to say to that. Let's see if you can live with your conscience.

Happy Easter! Today spiritually go to the tomb & you will see the rock has been removed & Christ is risen! I AM a witness to this great experience. As a Catholic I pray that all Catholics will have faith for the cream always rises to the top.Pope Benedict is being attacked like Christ being scouraged at the pillar; he will not open his mouth to defend himself. However behind close doors things will change.People always ask if there is holiness in Ireland/Rome/Jerusalem why is there violence? because the devil provokes where there is faith. The Vatican is not a democratic Institution(the oldest continuing institution in the history of mankind) do you not think that if the Catholic Church was not divine & protected by the Providence of God that the Catholic Church would have been destroyed already? we know as Catholics we are constantly being attacked like Christ himself who mentioned if they hate you they hated me first! The Church is not a Corporation they do not have a PR team.Although a company owned by a gentleman named Grabovski has done some PR work for the Vatican from Washington years ago, however he will not elaborate on this subject? Grabovski mentions that it's wrong in how the Vatican is replying to the devil inspired New York Times articles.Again Jesus when scourged did not defend himself even in the Garden where he was arrested? from the day Christ was born it has been a scandal; God nailed to a Cross? Do not let the Devil take away YOUR JOY! Happy Easter!

And behold there was a great earthquake. For an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and coming, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. And his countenance was as lightning, and his raiment as snow. And for fear of him, the guards were struck with terror, and became as dead men. And the angel answering, said to the women: Fear not you; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he is risen, as he said. Come, and see the place where the Lord was laid. And going quickly, tell ye his disciples that he is risen: and behold he will go before you into Galilee; there you shall see him. Lo, I have foretold it to you. And they went out quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy, running to tell his disciples. And behold Jesus met them, saying: All hail. But they came up and took hold of his feet, and adored him. Then Jesus said to them: Fear not. Go, tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, there they shall see me".

Evil does not attack that which is not a threat. However, as a Greek Orthodox christian I have been taught that evil will, however, attack anything which would be a threat to evil itself, such as the Church. Every church has had its problems with wrongful priests, but the priests themselves are only men, and they are going to be tempted, just as Christians are always tempted. Living in the flesh in one thing, but living for a spiritual renewing of the mind and soul is a difficult task to accomplish. The Church is not to blame and this is a way to "cause" people to lose their faith and leave their churches. Don't let it happen!

This is a fascinating topic.
I have not read all the comments,
or even read the NY Times article.
The statement the devil is behing the
attacks on the Pope by the Exorcist is
an interesting assertion.
What is true is the Devil is alive and well. He promotes confusion and evil.
However as you walk with God each day,
you can overcome quite easily.
The New Kingdom is being ushered in as
I speak. Believers hold the Key.
I respect the Pope.
This kind of disrespectful talk is not good. It increases the hurt.
I feel the Catholic Church needs to simplify the message of the Gospel so a
child could understand it.
The sexual abuse problem and the Jewish/Holocaust comparison are also
interesting.
The New Kingdom is coming...
Maybe nobody has told him yet.

St. Paul may have been a pharisee but his words are clearly relevant today. The "prince of the power of the air" is hard at work in todays world. What if the Church really does have the keys to the kingdom, and what we establish on earth will be established in heaven. What would happen if we rejected war, removed the "just war" clause from our teaching. We should pray for those who have judged the Pope and the church as there is one lawgiver and one judge, that is God. When we judge others we put ourselves in his place, thats on the cross, taking those sins or judgements upon ourselves, We can't bear the weight.

(cont'd) Then there was a Rabbi accused and protestant Pastor accused and I started think Why? What purpose could this serve? And this came to mind...Maybe God wants us to stop being so hypocritical and actually value our children. Perhaps if we could see such a horrible thing happening to children at Church/Temple it would mean it could happen anywhere..at school, boy scouts, girl scouts, locker rooms, playgrounds and even at home where child should feel the safest. After all if that red burning light in church is sanctuary and this could happen there maybe children aren't safe anywhere without keeping a close eye on them. Since this started coming to light has anyone noticed that people actaully pay attention to Amber alerts in contrast to the past's casual ingnoring of faces sent on postcards and on milk cartons? Don't we seem to care just a little bit more. Certainly, Satan is having a good time with this, but I believe there has been a greater good that has come from it. We need to clean our own mess first and help others clean theirs. May the Lord's salvation bring all of us cleansing of our souls, love for one another and peace to all.

As far as the NY times and other publications/ media outlets are concerned..I would say most are bent on seeing the Vatican and all religions fail. Yes there is an agenda to this media blitz and unfortunately I think an agenda by those who are now adult victims of abuse and their attorney's. I am a victim of sexual abuse by a family member. Yes, this is a heinous crime, yes it can cause years of damage to a person's psyche, perpetuated abuse, substance abuse and distrust, but I have been trying to figure out for years how money accepted by the family and the victims themselves heals these problems. I once had a aunt who said to me "I always felt bad for you", and all I could think of was not bad enough to take me out to the situation though, right? The Church has been and is wrong in its approach to these crimes no doubt about it, but what messages did/are being sent by the parents of these children? Child abuse is okay along as you get a big check out of it? How is that not more abuse? We all have played apart in these abuses. Every time we stand by watching a parent get out of control disciplining their child, every teacher who had a bad feeling about a co-worker and did nothing, every government agency that acted too late! When this first hit the news I found myself absorbed by each story, and overwhelmed by what was happening in my Church.

Sometime after the Resurrection of Jesus, after Pentecost, the Sanhedrin met to consider what to do with the apostles, Peter (the first Pope) being among them, since they were preaching salvation through Christ in the Temple daily. A wise man among them said that they should consider other recent movements in Israel at that time that had ended fatally for those involved, typically at the hand of the Romans. He said that if this movement was from God, there was nothing that they could do about it, and if it was from man, it would die out just like the others. We are still here. Hummmmm. Make no mistake, the Lord God Almighty can use even the evil intended by the New York Times for good. We serve a Risen Savior, Jesus Christ!

Being attacked by Satan is no small matter. Mankind fell because Adam was so attracked to his wife that he accepted the fruit from her and wanted to have the knowledge of goood and evil like God. The devil is very sutle in his attackes, however sometimes he is violent. To blame the vicar of Christ on earth for the priest scandal is like blaming the Black President of these United States for all black crime. There is good and bad in everyone and everything. Do you not think that the devil has not put enemy agents in the Church to destroy it from within. There are many communists and masons who entered the church for that expressed reason. Try reading the book AA 1025 which is a first hand account of an anti apostle. Instead of attacking the Holy Father one should use our most power weapon and pray much for him.

While it is certainly true that there are those in the media, especially those with "secular' leanings, who would wish the Church,[and the Holy Father} nothing but ill, blaming the devil for the hideous mistakes, and crimes, of hierarchal figures in the church simply will not do. I can assure you it is not just "left-wing" newpapers who are disgusted with the way high officials in the Church have mis-handled these abusers. It is the heinous sins of these leaders who have put child-abusing priests back in positions where they could re-create their misdeeds that has put the "Church" in the position it is now. Don't get me wrong I am sure that the devil is quite pleased that the Church is now being attacked, but if he is to blame, then it is the hierarchy itself, from priests, to bishops, and even cardinals, who have proven to be his willing accomplaces.

Bob Smith needs to read a little history and review how and why the bible was put together. The Bible was given to us by the Holy Spirit as discerned by the early bishops of the Catholic Church. There was no Bible for the first 350 years of Christianity. The first official list of Scriptures was done in 393 at the Council of Hippo, then again in Carthage in 397 and 419. The Church did not infallibly define these books until the Council of Trent, when it was called into question by the Reformers, in 1556. Sorry for the history lesson. Remember, Bob that if it wasnt for the Catholic church, you wouldn't have the current Bible to read nor a real understanding of what it means to be Christian. All are sinners including you and when you are perfect then throw the first stone, Also, remember that the cornerstone of Christianity is forgiveness and must be practiced endlessly-even forgiving those who hurt or kill you. That is the Easter message as well.

There is no denying that any abuse, especially to a child, is indefensible, but there is also no denying that the Church, throughout the years ranks as one of the best organizations to have ever graced the face of the earth.
What organization do you know of that has done more for the sick, the poor, the hungry, even society's outcasts, to name just a few, than the Catholic Church?
It's the message of the Church and it's teachings that are infallible, not the messengers, who are human, like you and I. There is a difference.

I agree with several other writers above. I was once a Catholic, but have since renounced it and become non-denominational. This is due to two reasons. First, when a priest is committing crimes against children, you don't just transfer him and sweep it under the rug. In my book, that made the Catholic hierarchy complicit in the crimes. Secondly, it is sadly true that today, a majority of Catholics have signed on to the amoral, Bible-burning Democratic party. The Bible states that we cannot serve two masters. The Pope is a good man, but unfortunately, too many of this denomination's followers have lost their way.

The true evil attack was on these children, they are the victims here. All of you remember that the "media" are just reporting, finally, the stories of the victims, which were for so long silenced, and therefor allowed to continue with abuse of even more children. The Democratic Party is determined to silence the Church's opposition to abortion rights and same-sex marriage, two of the signature issues that the Democrat politicians use to get votes.
Priests and bishops in America have signed on to the Democratic Party's social agenda. The majority of Catholics voted for President Obama in the last election, despite his promotion of abortion on a global basis. You will, therefore, see little defense of the Pope in the Democrat parishes. They have already chosen Obama over the teachings of the Church.

The Spirit of either good or evil is a free will choice. Either the fruit of the vine is good or bad. Some fruit can look pretty good but it is poison within, toxic and that is the fruit of evil or satan. The good fruit is that of God. Christ is the vine and those that live by faith are the good fruit, nurtured through the power of the Holy Spirit. The bad fruit is the bad news of every day existence, full of evil and strife and the good fruit is the "Good News"that is the revelation of a faith, that is based on the belief in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Even our bodies can't sustain the toxic effects of everyday life,as waste products must be expelled with the resulting stench discharged, into expensive and extensive sewer systems. Satan or the devil represents all that is contagious, spiritually and physically. The life of the evil choices such as "Marxism" as a governmentally driven life style,is the opium of a dope, who can't learn from a violent historical situation. Fantastic. Another way for organized religion to push their evil on everyone and everything and still avoid taking responsibility for it.

No one is condoning the actions of these homosexual and pedophile "priests", nor are we condoning the actions of the Bishops or any one else that didn't and doesn't deal with these kind of people. These people should have never been allowed to be priests or religious to begin with and should have been and should be excommunicated, and dealt with by the proper civil authorities. Yet the media, controlled by anti Christ, anti Catholic leftwing, marxist secularists, have NO sympathy for the victims of these horrific crimes. Their goal is to destroy the teachings of Christ and his Catholic Church by using these poor victims as fouter and to slander the Pope and the one true Church to achieve that end!!

I agree that the NY Times and much of the main stream media in the US is anti-Christian and cannot be trusted to tell the truth about most things. However, the fact remains that the Catholic church has turned a blind eye to child sexual abuse for many years. Who can be blamed for believing that the priests see the right to abuse children as an allowed perk of their job?

I am not Catholic so I might see this differently than a Catholic would, but if the Pope would say in effect "the buck stops here", take responsiblity for the way the Church has allowed abuse to continue for so many years, and institute a world-wide zero tolerance policy, perhaps the victims and the public in general would feel that the Vatican was finally serious about putting an end to the secrecy and protectionist attitude toward abusive clergy. The defensive posture taken so far by the Vatican and Bishops defending the Vatican is not helpful.

Rom 8:1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. I can’t help but think there’s a passion to kill Catholicism rather than work towards protecting our children from sexual abuse. Because of all the perps in the world attacking, molesting or otherwise sexually abusing children, the Catholic priest accounts for only 0.2%-1.7% of all sexual misconduct against children. And the response to this attack is that it’s due to celibacy and if priests were allowed to marry, they’d leave these kids alone. NEWSFLASH! Comparative studies of sexual misconduct of Catholic priests compared to that by Protestant ministers show that 10% of the Protestant ministry is involved in sexual misconduct against children. Yet we hear nothing about it; nor do we see where charges were brought or that the Protestant churches pay out millions of dollars to the victims. And what of the charges that this is a result of celibacy? Then we move on to children in public schools where 15% of public school students are sexually assaulted by the public school teachers! So let’s look at the score, for lack of better terminology: Catholic priests account for less than 2% of sexual misconduct claims; Protestant ministers account for 10% of sexual misconduct claims; and 15% of public school students are regularly sexually abused by public school teachers! The real problem with these comparisons is that no one wants to study the effects of the Protestant ministries or public school teachers on child sexual abuse. Isn’t it obvious why? Satan IS among us.

As a Christian, I admire most of the moral stands of the Catholic church. However, I have almost always been angry at the warped theology of Catholics. There is virtually no Biblical support for the Catholic church. (just read a Bible if you don’t believe me) The one verse (they could only come up with one verse, which is a pretty powerful indication of their desperation) they cite is taken out of context and obviously mis-interpreted to fit their agenda. As a Christian, I believe Satan is at the heart of the Catholic church. Satan knows he can’t destroy Christianity, but as the great deceiver, and great divider, he knows lies and distortion of the truth are his best weapons to prevent true salvation. The Catholic church is closer to a cult like the moonies or Jehovah’s Witnesses than it is to a true church of Jesus. Don’t get me wrong, there are saved Christians, but they are dishonoring my Lord and Saviour by participating in the blasphemous practices of the Catholic church. (again, if you don’t think believe me, read a Bible, and not the writings of past Popes!)

Basically, pedophilia among Christian, especially Catholic institutions is reported far more than pedophilia among non-Christian institutions.
My heart goes out to the the victims of ALL forms and sources of pedophilia, and the innocent Church officials that had nothing to do with any scandal but are looked down upon regardless.

There is a CHASM between those of you who think that the DEVIL is a little red man(I don't think ANYBODY Here does) and those who think that the Devil a "MYTH", etc. etc.
The CHASM is the LANGUAGE. Let me try to clear up the language for those of you who aren't believers.
TO those who feel that this is "ridiculous";
EVIL is a FORCE that you cannot say does not exist.
Evil acts in people...it is embedded in them and they must root it out WHATEVER IT IS, it is a mystery to us mere humans but it EXISTS and we call it EVIL or the DEVIL.
Priest are only human and evil can affect them also.Would everybody stop bashing priests and the church because there are some bad apples ??
Its time to stop arguing about lexicon and STOP PEOPLE FROM DESTROYING CHRISTIANITY because that is really the goal, to ELIMINATE Christianity as a force and this is not a nutjob opinion, it's based on facts.
The idea is to eventually REMOVE all power from the CHRISTIANs//and replace it with a secular WORLD system.THis is the MARXIST goal. THe CHurch is still seen as the OPIATE OF THE MASSES.
The seculars are not able to understand that Christianity empowers the individual.
They don't understand the CHOICE and FREEDOME issues.
Thats why they don't understand why AMERICA is BASED on CHristian values: choice, freedom and voluntary sacrifice.
They think a government of MEN can replace GOD by making the right choices FOR individuals.

The trouble with many in the Catholic church right now is that many parishaners do not question anything a priest or clergy says. If it doesn't sound or feel right... QUESTION IT! children are too precious to be hurt like this. I am not just suggeting this with people of the catholic church because priests are not the only ones hurting children like this. Teach your children that they are sacred and if someone makes them feel uncomfortable to tell someone and parents... listen to your kids. If they seem fearful or uncomfortable around someone ask why! Look into it because there is a reason for it children are young and they don't understand why these people are hurting them like that it is up to the parents to reconize the signs and put a stop because children wouldn't understand that what the priest or person who is in charge of them isn't aloud to touch them because children are predisposed to trust adults... Remember this when you bash those who critisize the church or the punishment of pediphiles...

The reporting by the New York Times is evil because it is misleading. See the article by Father Thomas Brundage who was the Catholic official in charge of the Father Lawrence Murphy case:
http://catholicanchor.org/wordpress/?p=601#more-601
It is ridiculous that the Times never even contacted this person who knows the most about the case. Father Murphy died before the church proceedings concluded. The pope (then Cardinal Ratzinger) had no jurisdiction over the case, the local archbishop did. The only conclusion that can be reached is that the Times isn't interested in the truth or a balanced story, but instead is interested in attacking the Catholic Church. I find it particularly repulsive that they throw this crap at the church during holy week. I do not mean to minimize the horrible sexual abuse that took place. The perpetrators should be criminally prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But anyone who takes a close look at the accusations against the pope can only conclude that they are groundless. Again, please read the article I mention above regarding the Father Murphy case to inform yourself. After reading that article I will never believe the Times again. It is no wonder they are in such dire financial straits.

James, and others....like JohnB, etc.:
You don't understand. "Demons" and "spirits" are just words to describe the REAL "forces of evil".
Just because you think the description is unscientific and oldfashioned does not mean such things are not REAL.
Or are you saying that CLERGY are more evil than anybody else ?
It is a sad situation but that is no reason to sneer at explanations that you cannot understand.
Or maybe YOU have a better way to explain the forces of good and evil in the world.
Or maybe YOU think such things do not exist and that we should be creatures of REASON ruled by a World ELite Government.
In that case I suggest you read 1984, Brave New World, Atlas SHrugged, and the works of Solzhenitsyn, watch "Gattaca" and try to understand the nature of the HUMAN SPIRIT, it's potential for GOOD or EVIL, the CHOICE that has been given us by God, the choice to use KNOWLEDGE for good or for evil.
These issues goes beyond your academic and political stance, into the realm of that which cannot be explained by mere words.

The Muslims are largely given a free pass performing all of their acts of terror. Why not report about the burning of the Christian in front of the plice station in Pakistan, or the killing of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the list is unfolding in the news on a daily basis. Barack Obama and the Marxists that have high jacked the Democrat party seek to glorify themselves and the government instead of God.
Every time I see Barry basking in the cheering crowds because he's telling the useful idiots "he's" going to give them this and "he's" going to give them that and he's going to do it with someone else's money it makes me cringe.
Charity is not the job of government, especially forced charity, this is also Satan's work.
If the government forces someone to give money they've lost their ability to do it of their own volition they're denied the opportunity to be charitable on their own accord just the way the devil likes it.
Government claims the glory for helping others instead of God's church as it should be through charity not through taxation and forced redistribution of wealth.
This is also why Barack doesn't attend church he worships his god every time he looks in the mirror. I laughed out loud when he commented about not going to church he said, "well I have a circle of pastors that say a prayer for me whenever they can".
A prayer for me? Is this what he believes church is for praying for?
Here's a newsflash for the Marxist in Chief, church is to gather and worship God to praise Him and His son not to pray for oneself.
As far as the media goes they eviscerate Christians at every opportunity whilst the religion of Satan (Islam) gets a free pass. Pretty much says it all.

Remember, What is most important during holy week is reconcilliation and asking God for the forgivness of our sins and to forgive those who have trespassed against us. It's time to forgive the church and the presits who have done wrong.

While not Catholic I have great respect for Catholics. As a United Methodist Pastor I must say the Catholic Church has stood for life while the Church that I serve has not. Sexual abuse should not be tolerated. the Catholic Church is not alone in having to deal with clergy who are predators. Satan is at work in our world. Yes, I believe the media is liberal and anytime they can attack Christianity they do. They dare not offend those of the Muslim faith for then they will be seen as being politically incorrect. Christianity is not about political correctness. it is about salvation reveled in the incarnation, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Hatred is born of fear and the Liberals in America are frightened of the strength Christians derive from their belief. To succeed it is necessary that people become wholly dependent on the State so that maximum control may be established. By attempting to destroy our belief in Gos they hope to turn us toward them for our "salvation".
It will never work because they fail to realize the deep rooted belief we have in our faith and the fact the more they attempt to destroy our faith the stronger it will become.
I feel sorry for the because they are leading such terribly empty lives. The Democrats for the most part have politics as their God and they worship at the alter of power. They are a sad and confused group and should be pitied.

Remember the parable of the mustard seed? The mustard plant is not a tree, it's a bush. Birds of the air are symbolic in Scripture of demons. So, the church grows to be a great tree, and birds of the air nest in it. Even Jesus said that the church would become grossly deformed, and that Satan would find refuge in it. So he has.
It is not a surprise when clergy become pedophiles. Pedophiles look for access to children where they have the parents trust, so that they can rape their victims with impunity. No better place to do that than in a church.
The lesson is, if you are a parent, do not trust clergy with your children just because they are clergy. Satan himself appears as an angel of light, and a frock does not mean a good man under it.
I know, my son was raped by our Evangelical Free preacher. He is in prison now, for 40 years.

In reading the comments, there is an absence of real spiritual knowledge.
As a Christian minister, Priest Amorth has devoted his life to the most difficult of ministries and one that is lacking amongst all denominations. Despite the revised Ritual Romanum, the flaw rest with the spiritual understanding by leading clergy which is far removed from actual truth.
This world since the cross has not been battling satan aka devil - but demonic spirits. These spirits intrude upon everyone's lives, despite the refuting of their existence. No church has ownership of spiritual knowledge but the temples of God that exists in our hearts.
The Catholic church must purge itself of clergy that harm innocent lives to be respected as a Holy institution. The dotted lines to media is another conjecture?

There is no need to look for Satan working outside of the Church, there's nothing new in that. There is nothing new that the New York Times is anticatholic, its been that way since its inception.
What is new, is this focus to find enemies out of the Church when the enemies in the Church are making these problems. Its just plain illogical, and I must question if this misplaced focus quite works very well with Satan's plans.
Lets not have the same old priest abuse problem pop up again in 3 years from now. Lets fix it once and for all: the human element in the Church, especially its pastors, MUST avoid the sins of omission, cowardice, "human respect", and false "prudence", and MUST start cleaning house. This means doing public Church tribunals for accused priests, nothing more secret and hidden, so justice (either way) can be seen by all. And the human element of the Church can once gain do its duty of VIGILANCE and SAFE-GUARDING, which they have failed MISERABLY. Why start looking at "the media" or the New York Times? Start looking at the miserable failures, in which children under Church protection where abused by the very ones who should be protecting. I don't need additional enemies in the media to find and fix, the ones are right in the Church, their bad bishops and their poor oversight all the way to the top---and they KNOW about this and DO NOTHING, that's why we have these problems. Do open tribunals, defrock the criminals, throw out bad bishops who protect them.

A major part of the staffs that make up the NY/Hollywood media are not of Christian faith. They are either Jewish, agonostic, atheist or Christian in name only but not in practice. These people like to see this dominate Christian religion vilified in any way that they can. A good example is going after the Pope who is the leader of the largest Christian demonination not only in the USA, but the world. So here you have a billion Catholics in the world, and what is the media doing during Easter, the most holy Christian time of the year, accusing the Pope of knowing about child molestation..and using it as their lead story as NBC has been doing! They deliberately leave out the good the church has done, but go only after the few bad and make it a major issue. We've also seen how they have vilified those of sincere evangelical Christian beliefs, as being Christian right wing crazies. Why was the great movie the "Passion" so condemned without any Academy Award nominations, when in fact it was one of the most powerful movies produced in decades. Yet movies about the Jewish history is always glorified with great publicity? The Jews have a great heritage, but they should also give the great Christian religion some glory too. But that's the power of their media.

Sorry, it has nothing to do with the devil but just men who are bad. The priests involved should be in jail, and anyone who covered it up should be two steps behind them. I have never been a fan of the Roman church, having a strong knowledge of the incredible amount of paganism and satanism incorporated into Christianity because of it and these recent charges are nothing more than the tip of an iceberg that is the direct result of an incredibly UNbiblical policy. By the time the so-called "church fathers" came about, the church had already reached a severe low of paganism that began even before Paul died - he wrote of it himself how the church had already begun to fall away. So I am not at all surprised at these things finally being brought to light. I pray to God, not Mary, nor any other entity because that is what God said to do and perhaps someday, when God sends Christ back, we will see him wipe the earth clean of such wolves in sheep's clothing as those in that pagan temple in Rome.

And these persons permitted these priests to go from one place to another continuing to molest. This is unacceptable & a terrible sin. We need to know who did this. This needs to be exposed & those who protected these evil priests need themselves to be punished. Why this would be resisted in strange to me.

It's easy to cast blame on 'the devil' and not take repsonsibility. A true man of god wouldn't blame anyone for his own deeds. The devil is just a scape goat. What would Jesus do? The pope, child abusing priests and anyone who supports child abuse are nothing more than pharisees, who are further from the kingdom of heaven than the sinners! Peace and love.

I do not think it is any accident that the healthcare bill passed practically in tandem with the attack of our beautiful Pope Benedict. It passed because of all the help from the false catholics in congress and those who voted for obama to begin with. God's timing is as always, impeccable. I think it is time that the false catholics do the right thing and leave. I hope the earnest Catholics stand up and speak up for what they have been taught and have come to believe, that the teachings are GOD's truth. I hope all of our various leaders in the Chuch get on the stick and start reviving the continous need for Catholic education. I recommend Michael Voris who can be googled using Real catholic tv. You will love him. For me I am gaining the character and courage to speak my truth about abortion and everything else the Church has taught us because it makes sense. Who knows I just might be used to save a life. believe I am not coming from some holier than thou position. I had two abortions and lived the life of void of God. What an awesome GOD we have. I am a returning Catholic and the more I learn about the faith I was born into the more I love it. There is no other path out there that has the clarity regarding false self and GOD. To me, the Catholic Church is nothing more than a criminal cult and tax-free global real estate empire worthy of God's wrath for its vast pedophilia. For centuries, Popes have spewed hatred such as anti-Semitism and wrought murder and mayhem. The Vatican also helped Nazis conceal their crimes and then escape. This is well dcoumented historical fact. The Cathloc Church is EVIL. May God strike it down in the name of Jesus (it seems to be happening now). Praise God.

If it helps some people.. so be it. Sure there are some decent priests in the world but do we really need religion to tell us how to be a good person. Stop living in a make believe world and worring about a so called afterlife. Here is an idea, live in the now and make the best of it. That involves treating people with respect and taking responsibility for your own actions... Not blaming angels and demons for how people are acting.

Once again the catholic church is spinning instead of taking action. It is deplorable that when the facts are brought out the church uses Satan as the reason. the reason for the backlash is that these priests committed a crime and got away with it. I dont want to hear that they will be judged by God, that does not help the victims. The obligation is to report the crime not sweep it under the rug. The criminals were known yet the church and the church agency headed by Ratzinger knew about the crime and did nothing. When the priest in Milwaukee asked for leincy he was granted it by Ratzinger. The victims had to live with knowing that he church they thought would protect them adandoned them. The church leaderships despicable behavior and enabling of these pedophiles allowed their crimes to continue unabated.
This is not a satanic left wing george soros plot. This is a large institution that is protecting their own at the expense of the flock. The pope and his minions must come clean and tell teh truth. Anything short of the truth will just prolong the moral dilema the church currently faces. The Pope is not infallible but he is held to a higher standard, it is about time he lived up to it.

Absolutely mind-boggling that people would take this "exorcist" seriously in the 21st century. Just remember, if all of the leaders of this church had had their way over the last 20 years, then every one of these cases of rape would still be a total secret, and many of the priests responsible would still be being moved from parish to parish. The only reason anyone knows anything about any of this is because of the "evil" media. The New York Times, like the Boston Globe before it, has done nothing but report facts. No one in the Vatican, and none of the church's defenders on sites like this, has challenged the veracity of ANY of those facts. All they can do is whine that the poor pope is being "attacked." This pope, and the one before him, could have squashed this crisis years ago by dealing with the problem honestly and openly. Instead, they are finding out what everyone who covers things up finds out: that the cover-up ends up being an uglier story than the original crime.

All I've seen here thus far are meaningless comments from religious extremists who seem to believe this is all about Satan and church opponents instead of perverted priests who beat and raped young children; after which the church covered it up. Satan didn't abuse these children; a legal representative of the church did. No doubt this is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm waiting for a multitude of women to come forward with stories of being raped in the confessional booth as young girls. Satan indeed! Amorth exists in a world where some of the most deviant and mentally ill misfits of society can easily violate their victims under the guise of church sanctity and then claim afterwards, "Satan made me do it." During the acts of violence and sexual abuse, these same priests were probably telling their victims, "god made me do it." None of the uproar is about the "church," it is directed entirely against PEOPLE in the church who use god and church as a convenient cover for their criminal behavior. Let us not forget that complicity and cover-up of a criminal act are in themselves criminal acts.

There is so much effort being expended at "defending the church and Pope" that the church has forgotten that it and its priests are to protect, educate and to help save their parishoners. When men or women prey (yes it is preying) upon the weakest most vulnerable of us these are crimes of the individuals that commit them ... when the crimes are covered up and the molesters permitted to molest again then that is an organizational problem, a problem with how the church runs itself... When there are problems with an organization it is the head of the organization that has to appropriately deal with the issues so that they don't happen again and so that faith is restored. The Pope, on behalf of the Church, must detail the steps the Church is taking to insure that future cases are dealt with more openly and appropriately. This may help us all to have renewed faith in the Church. The Pope's potential culpability for past coverups (yes he individually acted in some cases) still needs to be resolved.

“There is no such thing in America as an independent press, unless it is in the small towns. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write his honest opinions, and if you did you know before hand that they would never appear in print...The business of the NY journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and to sell his race and his country for his daily bread. You know this and I know it, and what folly is this to be toasting an "Independent Press". We are are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping-jacks; they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. This pretty much sums it up for all peoples.
For those that are guilty of such things within the Church, repentance and acceptance of guilt to the extent they are culpable is to be desired over saving face. Saving face is man centered (fruitless before God)), while repentance & personal responsibility are God centered (only good always).

If there is a God, it must be disappointed by the total rejection of Reason displayed by Father Amorth and those who believe his myth. The horrible act of molesting children
has been going on in the Church for centuries and remained an unspeakable topic. Reason would ask why God would allow those in the most trusted positions of the Church to commit such acts - why they would not be struck down as they stood. Of course to ask
such questions calls into question the infallibility of God, or how any God would allow the most vulnerable to be savaged by those in positions of great trust, or whether there is even a God at all. It too convenient and simply avoiding the facts to blame Satan for all of this.
If humans have the ability to Reason, and if humans were created by God, then God intended humans to apply Reasoning to their World: DO SO.

The vicious attacks on Pope Benedict XVI and the Catholic Church don't surprise me. Notice how they always seem to come during Holy Week and Christmas? We all need to continue to pray to Saint Michael for protection and to God to give Pope Benedict XVI the wisdom and strength to fight evil and the attacks from the secular media who wish nothing more than to bring the Catholic Church down. But the Church will NEVER fall. The Church will ALWAYS prevail over evil. Hope everyone posting here has a blessed Holy Week and a Happy Easter. God Bless.

This crisis (priests sexually abusing children) within the church is the work of Satan. The silence and secrecy within the hierchy of the Church and the way it is being handled is also the work of Satan. The Holy Spirit will continue to guide the Church, in righteousness and truth, as She has done in the past.

It's actually very comforting to be an atheist. My thoughts are my own, I follow a moral code that I can believe in, and I take responsibility for my own errors. Blaming evil spirits for the crimes the clergy have committed is just another pathetic attempt to ignore personal responsibility.

Am I to assume that Father Amorth also believes that Satan covered-up the disgusting crimes committed by senior officers of the church who moved the perpetrators so that they could continue to commit their foul acts?
Please understand that the vast majority of people who are upset with the church hierarchy are upset because of the cover-up, because FAR MORE children's lives were destroyed by the church's attempts to hide its socially damaging mistakes.
I don't expect this comment to be published since it is not supportive of this website's position but I do hope that at least one of you reads it and understands that human pride is to blame here and the church can not in good faith pass the buck to some external force. It was in full control of this throughout and handled it extremely badly.

Why not accept responsibility for the ruined lives of trusting young naive children instead?
Don't these perverted priests have "free will"?
When I was a child, I remember it was a 'sin' to say anything bad about a priest. So all these kids were afraid to tell anyone because they were concerned about sinning themselves! Twisted!
I consider all those who knew this was taking place as guilty as the perpetrators.
If you want to blame an invisible entity for the crimes of human beings, then play the 'victims' of Satan instead of being responsible....
maybe we should open all the prisons and free the murderers and rapists, because it was the 'devil' who made them do it.

The behavior of Pope Benedict XVI in condoning the sexual abuse of children by Roman Catholic priests is evil and Satanic. This pope does not represent Jesus and Mary. He is an instrument of Satan. Joseph Ratzinger needs to resign for the good of the church. If he does not resign a general council must be called to depose him under the doctrine of Haec Sancta from April 6, 1415.

So many immature idiots who live in a world of black and white, and since they consider their Church Leaders to be in the White, they can never be guilty, even if the proof is overwhelming. Satan is empowered by those who CHOOSE to do wrong rather than what is right, and when you need an escape goat, you blame satan. Bella Dodd, a former Communist operative who converted to our Faith, confided to Archbishop Sheen that during the 1940s (and 1950s?) she and other operatives recruited many young Communist men into the seminaries for the purpose of destroying the Church from within. (Google Bella Dodd if you think I am making this up!) Many of these moles were ordained, according to Dodd.
How many of these became the child-molesting priests, seminary rectors, vocations directors and and perhaps even Archbishop-Cardinals who, even if they themselves refrained from such bad acts, hand-picked deviant men (as well as doctrinally-heterodox men) to enter the seminaries? Then modified what is taught in the seminaries to promote heresy and tolerance of immoral behavior as well as polluted the liturgy?

I could not believe how different the reported story was compared to the facts reported from the judge in the case. The priest died while in trial and the notes used by the NYT were hand written and not in the judges hand writing.
Given the frenzy during Holy Week , the notion of basic evil is a reasonable explanation when you realize the events of the story were from 60-35 years ago and the priest died 15 years ago. The Church has survived worse beginning with Judas, it will survive this as well.

I'm a 63 year old air force vet lifelong catholic. My take is :
1. The current pope knew about all these pedophile charges as prefect of the congregation for doctrine of the faith for 25 years and buried the paperwork. Name one pedophile priest he turned over the the police in 25 years. Answer...none.
2. John Paul2 knew about that other pedophile priest with 3 illegitimate children, Fr Maciel ( founder of the Legionnaires of Christ ) and did nothing about it. For good measure, Maciel even molested one of his three illegitimate children.
Maciel had a lot of cash from donations and spread the wealth around the Vatican to avoid investigation. Unfortunately, the scandal became so obvious and public that even the vatican found him guilty.
3. If it wasn't for the media, the pedophile scandal would have gone on until every American diocese was bankrupt. The bishops only took action when 100 movie cameras were outside the annual bishops conference in Dallas in 2002 and there was too much publicity to avoid the situation any longer
4. The fish rots from the head down....Harry Truman had a sign on his desk saying "the buck stops here". Ideally Pope Benedict should be arrested and all the secret documents he hid away as prefect of the CDF should be made public. Anyone who thinks that Ratzinger and John paul2 didn't know what was going on for 25 years going on for 25 years has watermelon seeds for brains.

The church is not just the priests, bishops, archbishops, The Pope or the nuns or the deacons. It is the people & yes we must exorcise the demons. Father Amorth is not excusing, but explaining. "the leader of the Church can't [commit sins] and he is Christ"
lorain from Ohio, please don't take offence, but I don't think that's quite right. Infallibility doesn't mean the Pope can't ever sin or make mistakes; it applies only to matters of faith and morals, solemnly defined. Many people think it applies to everything the Pope says or does, so they think badly of him when he says something unwise.
To say he is Christ is also a little OTT - Christ's representative on earth, His vicar, yes; and his authority is given to him directly by Christ to protect his Church from error.
I don't want to attack you, just define things a little more because people might get the wrong idea. I hope I'VE got it right myself.
You are right in your loyalty to him. That is great - we must all support him.
A friend here suggested we all say the prayer to St Michael for him every day and the Newman Society in the USA is getting together a spiritual bouquet for him: look up their website to join.
Another friend passed on a suggestion that she had received that we all say a Rosary on Good Friday, between noon and 3 pm GMT for peace and for the state of the world. That would be a very powerful force.

Father Gabriele Amorth may GOD STRENGTHEN protect you.I wish you have a website that exposes the daily activities of the Devil to ordinary people and to people who are religious in nature in fallowing Christ.
For they are the focus of their anger, the children of the light since.Gen.3:15

Father Amorth is "right on". Evil forces can get humans to do what they want if the humans are open to them. Apparently the Times is open to putting down religion, especially Catholicism. That is totally evil and unnecessary.

We all have our weaknesses and it is in this that Satan tempt us the most...priests are no excemption..human as we all are, we can only generate strength from Christ the Lord no matter how sincere or strong our resolves are, we are always prone to succumb to satan's snare...I can not cast any judgement on anyone's wrongdoings as only God can do so...my faith in the Catholic Church will never be shaken at any cost...we should all pray hard for our fallen priests...and pray for our head the Pope...In Christ, Marlyn Neo

Open Letter to NY Times
(You might want to put it in your own words and send it to them & other media establishments)
would you please send a copy of this to newspaper subscribers so they can submit a letter like it to various media establishments objecting to biased reporting?
Dear editor of the New York times et a,
I haven't bought one of your newspapers in a long time. I went to Boston University. I studied Journalism and got good grades. I learned that responsible and ethical newspapers and other media were supposed to be objective, unbiased in reporting the news, self regulating in their ethical standards. Freedom of speech and the press is abused when we lie, exaggerate, engage in historical revisionism, and prejudiced political character assassination of one's perceived rivals just to sell an exciting story. In the eighties we expected unethical behavior from tabloids like the national enquirer, not so called "responsible" and "ethical" journalists.
If you don't think your readers, advertisers, and rivals know they are being lied to, guess again.
What am I talking about? You are very biased against anyone who isn't politically correct. You lie about such "enemies," you exaggerate their faults, and contradict previously written, more positive articles you've written about them in the past. (letter exceeds character limits)

To not acknowledge the existence of God is preferred ignorance. Satan is atheism,a preferred ignorance, personified and duplicated in the detractors of all people who have faith in God. Jesus is the light of God,who in Christ, illuminates all through the power of the Holy Spirit. Christ crushed Satan when he did battle with Satan at calvary. When he prayed for all of us as sinners, forgiving the ignorance of all people,he did much more than if he would have decided to come off the cross to save himself. That would have been a circus act and his detractors would have still demanded more in an even greater kind of an act. Still they would have refused to believe because Satan is their guide. Satan is the power that Christ overcame by overcoming death itself. Forgiveness was not in the vocabulary of Satan. In forgiving and loving his enemies Christ is victorious as Satin could never do this. Pope Benedict is a loving and forgiving Pope and very gracious as is Christ. No Pope and no Church member can ever be overcome by Satan if they are gracious ,loving and forgiving and that is why the Church will always remain perfect in Christ. Conversion is to prefer the love of God that teaches the person of faith to forgive and love one another. The sex abuse crisis is the perfect wedge that Satan can use over and over, because he knows that people will use endless forms of litigation,in their refusal to ever forgive and to learn to love again. The unforgiving media simply loves all scandals.

He has put a pro-abortion health care in the U.S.,the prop 8 seems is again being attacked now this time a poll saying that the californians are now pro-gay,these numerous abuse cases, the atheists also. But God is active too thru Mary remember the Fatima promise that Russia will be converted. The dialogue is ongoing thou and the Anglicans are now beginning the way back home healing the English king mistake. So eventhou we feel assaulted, God is alive and doing His' work of saving mankind.

To John in Australia, I could not agree with you more.
The media, & the NY Times did
NOT "cause: the global clergy sex-abuse scandal,
nor they "cover it up"; they've simply done
their job, by providing objective reporting on the
subject. As I recall, Cardinal Law blamed the
Boston Globe for his ultimate "downfall".
Come on folks, enough is enough with this
"Blame the victim & media" & now Satan (!)
mentality. This was a HUMAN scandal, not a supernatural one & the
human beings involved need to take responsibility!
Also, Mr Donahue of the Catholic League is really harming & NOT helping the credibility of Holy Mother, the Church (see his appearance on "Larry King Live (CNN) 30th March.

Good Observation;Satan attacking the Catholic Church boldly during Holy Week.Just like the serpent tempted Christ in the Garden.Maybe Satan's time is running short?.Throughtout the ages the Catholic Church has seen this story before. But it's survived! Any organization would have collapsed by now. That's why it shows that The Catholic Church has always been on a divine mission protected by God.As a priest mentioned;the Catholic Church is like a steel ball in a stomach;it can never be devoured! As Christ said; if they hate you;then they hated me first! This in itself should stenghted all of us Christians! even Christ said; they will war against us! take faith & be Still for I am God;Venegence is mine!
Pray the Rosary 15 minutes a day 1% a day in a 24 hour period...not much to do however, the Rosary will protect you from all heresay!like Pope Benedict mentioned;do not listen to the chatter/lies.There was just a report that over 39 million children have been abused in the last 30 years! maybe only 2% by the Catholic clergy & the rest by the pagans;step fathers, live in boyfriends. So New York Times if you really care about the victims contact them & comfort them stop pointing fingers.Whether the New York Times knows;they are doing the devils' work! the GREAT ACCUSER!!!

May we not recall to mind the Battle of Lepanto? The Catholic Church is under attack. Will we not stand up for her in her hour of need? "Who is like unto God?" That was St. Michael's rallying cry. And we have the holy Rosary of our Most Blessed Mother. The Berlin Wall and Communism fell and went into oblivion. Please be counted and let us pray for our beloved Pope and the Church and for all those who seek to destroy her. Take courage. The gates of Hell shall not prevail. God bless.

God says IAM and Satan says i am not. I think the one thing that is true is that men in the world today are acting out in such evil ways that Satan alone could cause such creative perversion. Mankind in and of himself is simply not that intelligent to come up with some of the atrocities. There has to be an enemy of God and mankind in the equation. Modern man under the influence of Satan is an abomination, uglier than ever, more vicious and hateful and obsessed with bloodlust. These mortal minions are raging against Pope Benedict because he is a force to be reckoned with and that is why he is hated. He is doing too good a job representing Christ and shining the light of Jesus Christ into their hellish lives and they hate that,so they are on the attack.

I respect Fr. Amorth as a holy priest. However, we all know the greatest problem we have with the Roman Catholic Church is the undeniable history of this church's hierarchy's scandalous cover-ups of crimes to protect itself at the expense of the faithful who put trust in the church. Personally, I can no longer stay in an institution whose many cardinals, archbishops, bishops, and many priests looked the other way either helplessly or lied their way through too long as so so many innocent, helpless young lives have been destroyed in silence. If the church is paying for its own horrendous crimes or is criticized by the world for what the crimes it has in effect condoned, who can possibly sympathize with it? Who can question the sanity of those Catholics who leave the church by hundreds of thousands every day in search of a church they can trust?

i always knew that satan was always looking for ways to defeat Christ's church what better way than to do within the church? this is a test for us christians too because here we are going to see who is going to fall for satan trap and who will remain faithful knowing that while human can commit sins the leader of the church cant; and he is Christ.

It is very trying to see the atheists, agnostics, homosexuals and devil worshippers on the internet Blogs and Twitter #Pope #Priest #Vatican railing our faith and the Holy Father what can we do? Is Benedict XVI the pope who Jacinta saw in her vision of the Holy Father. He was weeping insulted and persecuted! "I saw the Holy Father!" Jacinta continued. "He was in a very big house, kneeling by a table, with his head buried in his hands, and he was weeping. Outside the house, there were many people. Some of them were throwing stones, others were cursing him and using bad language. Poor Holy Father, we must pray very much for him." With God there is no time and all prayers are present to him. Father Amorth is highly respected in my book. What needs to be explained is that our foe, George Soros, Atheist owns much of the stock of the liberal news outlets in this country...This is why the media are in bed with this administration. They have no choice! Their motto is, "All rights removed!" This administration is usurping the Catholic Church. Look at the many so-called Catholic agencies and so-called Catholic voters in general that have voted against the Holy Word of God. They are consumed by the devil to think that they know better than Almighty God.
The devil is laughing at the deceived souls who have chosen for themselves a free ride straight to hell.

The seduction was at Vatican II and upon Western Society's acceptance of the perverted philosophies and terminology of psychology, where "Whatever is animal or base" is calculated (based on frequency of occurence) to be "normal." This perversion that occured over the last 60 years was an attack on TRUTH or the Holy Spirit. That Exorcists send people to psychiatrists to rule everything out, is actually a ruse to straighten out psychiatrists as to the reality of Evil.

Well said. Thank you Francis. If anyone can truly refuse to believe that Satan is working overtime to bring our Holy Father and our Catholic Church to its knees, then you need to really immerse yourself in scripture. We must all pray and go to reconciliation frequently, and have true conversion towards Christ. Honestly, I cannot even fathom what it must feel like to be an atheist and have no beliefs. Must be pretty hopeless. How sad.

The New York Times, like the other leftwing, Marxist and secular rags, along with the other 90% of the "mainstream media" are definitely Anti Christ and Anti Catholic. Satan and his minions have had alot of success these last 60 years. Notice that he is guiding his minions to ratchet up the attacks against Christ and his Catholic Church on Holy week. The week that Our Lord died on the Cross to defeat death and sin, and to bring salvation to all those who believe in him and are joined to his One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, with the successor of St.Peter, the Vicar of Christ on earth as its earthy head! The week that changed the universe! Satan is desperate, and as we all know will be defeated and was defeated on Good Friday and Easter Sunday 2000 years ago. We must not despair, but persevere, and keep praying the Rosary as much as possible.
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen
