.- The Alternativa Espanola political party has sent a âletter of protestâ to the U.S. ambassador to Spain over the decision by President Barack Obama to âremover the barriers to the practice of abortion.â
In a press release, the party said the letter was delivered to the embassy âcalling for the restrictions put in place by President Ronald Reagan to be maintained.â
On January 23, Obama signed an executive order lifting restrictions on the use of federal funds to promote abortion overseas. The so-called âMexico City Policyâ was put in place by President Reagan in 1984 after a U.N. conference that was held in the Mexican capital. President Bill Clinton revoked the policy in 1993 but it was reinstated by President George W. Bush in 2001.
