Think beyond "obvious" Lenten sacrifices, seek silence, Archbishop Chaput says
Internal conversions will bring about change in public life of Catholics, Denver prelate adds

Speaking to the Catholic News Agency during this, the first week of Lent, Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput said today that Catholics can make the most of their time of preparation for Easter, by thinking past the obvious things to “give up,” by offering their time in service, and especially by seeking times of silence. The archbishop also noted how the interior transformations of Lent can equip Catholics to better live their faiths in the public square. Subscriber comments:

Archbishop Chaput is speaking to the converted. Unfortunately it isn't being heard where it should be. I'm sure he wouldn't look for ways to avoid financial restitution to victims of abuse, the least that can be done of to the point of claiming statute of limitations and diplomatic immunity.
We have a wrong voice with wrong advice coming from somewhere in Rome.

Absolutely true. Often I have read that through great silence, one can achieve great holiness. Lent is a wonderful time to contemplate our own shortcomings and ask our Lord to take us into the desert with Him.

The archbishop has spoken a tour de force, a true elaboration on the spiritual meaning of Lent. I hope all who see Lent as a burdensome Catholic requirement will heed it.
The consumerism we see today is people's way of filling a void in their soul that only God can. ADD A COMMENT (Your e-mail will NOT be published):
