U.S. Lutheran convention establishes low threshold for homosexuality vote

.- The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is considering a proposal that would allow members in homosexual relationships to serve as clergy. It has denied a motion to require a higher proportion of votes for the proposal to pass. On Monday delegates gathered at the Minneapolis Convention Center rejected a proposal to require approval from a two-thirds supermajority instead of a simple majority when the measure comes to a final vote, expected on Friday. ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson cautioned earlier in the day that the outcome of the majority versus supermajority vote shouldn't be seen as strongly indicating how the debate will be decided. Supporters of the high threshold for passage said it was necessary to signal wide support for a major change in the church’s approach to homosexuality. About 43 percent of the 1,045 voting delegates supported the higher standard, the Associated Press says. Other topics of consideration include a broader statement on sexuality, a 34-page document that reportedly would establish a theological framework for differing views of homosexuality. Critics say it would liberalize the ELCA. The vote on that document is scheduled for Wednesday. The ELCA claims about 4.7 million members and 10,000 congregations in the United States. The press release on the ACLU statement was so vague and unreadable,
it was like they were ashamed from the start. This would have been unthinkable one gneration ago. Why did they limit it to just homosexuality? How about beastuality ?(Llamas, large dogs) How about ministers that like to do it with 4- 7 year old children? Is that coming in the next generation? Having this morality forced on you by people in power must be like being raped in prison. If you bring this up, and they say " no, it is not like being raped in prison", ask them if they have ever been. Yes, we are all sinners, but where are the new clauses for ministers who like to steal, kill, ect? ELCA Lutherans can make their opinion known by giving 1/4 of their usual to the church, and giving the other 3/4 to another organization, like the Red Cross, American Cancer Society, ect.

Looks like another church is heading down the wrong road as the United Church
of Christ! AS a conservative member of the UCC I cannot tell the endless path of sin they are starting on! Take it from one who has seen it first hand, the more liberal a church goes the further it goes away from the truth. By way his name is Jesus!

The Lutherans decend from (as do pretty much all false religions) a sexual deviant...the Devil has all false religions to himself so why should we even care?
If sodomites serve as clergy there, how will folks get their hair done, their dancing lessons, and their houses redecorated?

Homosexuals as heterosexuals have a call to chastity, purity of life and aspiration to true happiness which is based in self-respect and ultimate sense of human dignity. Genital sex is primarily and fundamentally oriented and directed to the "creation" of new life in the context of a married couple which by imperative of nature needs to be between a woman and a man. When the Lutheran Church falls short of this measure it falls short of Biblical standards and promotes a false doctrine of compassion. Christian charity is based on truth. LEAD THESE PEOPLE NOT INTO TEMPTATION BUT DELIVER THEM FROM EVIL!

They set the bar (threshold)so low, that you would have to dig a tunnel to get under it.

The name Evangelical Church is inappropriate, because Church is only one - Catholic. Besides, Lutherans are heretics.

Looks like the Missouri Synod Lutherans might see an influx of disaffected ELCA folk. Or, should I say "volk"?
