.- The U.S. bishops have withdrawn their positive review of the fantasy film, “The Golden Compass”, which opened in the United States last weekend.

The movie, which brought in $26.1 million in its full opening weekend, is based on a series of children’s books by British author and outspoken atheist Philip Pullman.

Director Harry Forbes and staff reviewer John Mulderig of the Office for Film and Broadcasting for the USCCB gave the controversial film a positive review, which was subsequently used to market it to dioceses across the United States. However, it must be noted that the advertisers created an ad which misrepresented Harry Forbes’ review by quoting it out of context.

No reason was given by the USCCB for the withdraw of the review.

How could a film reviewer of the USCCB possibly give a film about witch craft a 'good review'? It is impossible if everyone over there including Mr. Muldering were actually 'carrying their cross'. This makes it clear that there are in fact anti-Christians in the highest levels of the Catholic organization. We can not dismiss this as stupidity, it has to be recognized as liberal biases which is finding a comfortable home in the Catholic body.

The USCCB has always had really bad movie reviews. Some movies are so immoral and they still saying it is "OK".

Shame on the USCCB in the first place. Someone should be reviewing the reviewiers. And not giving any reason for withdrawing the review? I sure wish the bishops would step up to the plate and take responsiblity for defending the faith.

People in the positions of Mr. Muldering and most especially Mr. Forbes are well aware of the impact of written statements from USCCB. Irreparable harm has been done to Catholics, especially those who trusted in the review and allowed their children to attend, which cannot be easily alleviated without a strong statement from the head of the USCCB, even then the damage will remain great as those media outlets publishing the review most likely ignore the retraction. Both should be removed from positions of trust and replaced by those who can truly help the Bishops guide and guard souls entrusted to them by recognizing films not only have an "artistic" value but a moral value which must not be taken lightly.

Unbelievable that the Bishops allowed such a travesty to take place. Such a review on this (harmful to children) film should have been stopped. Even after its release, there should have been an immediate retraction.
God Bless
Ken
