.- The Vatican Press, Libreria Editricie Vaticana, has announced that it will begin selling the Roman Missal of 1962.

The publication is being viewed as a sign of support from the Vatican for those who wish to celebrate the Mass in Latin according to the 1962 rite, recently encouraged by Pope Benedict XVI's motu proprio instruction, "Summorum Pontificum."

It is available for purchase at a price of 59 Euros.  Further details can be found at http://www.libreriaeditricevaticana.com/it/news/

Fr. Larry Toschi asks,

"How can one obtain the current third edition of the Latin Roman Missal, Novus Ordo?"

When I was in Rome in April, the Vatican Publishing House was no longer printing the editio typica tertia of the Missale Romanum (2000). Go figure.

But Midwest Theological Forum in Illinois (USA) has been publishing its own approved copy with much better artwork than the Vatican edition. Only drawback: the altar edition runs US $600! But the quality of the book is vastly superior to anything I've seen in the standard American English "Sacramentaries" still on the market.

This is good, but when will the 1962 Mass be celebrated throughout the Church, as it is the extraordinary form? For the most part, there is silence about this. The motu propio is well in effect.
