Farina, Raffaele, SDB*

Raffaele Farina (born September 24, 1933 in Buonalbergo, Italy) professed membership to the Salesians of Saint John Bosco at the age of 21 and on July 1, 1958 he became a Salesian Priest.

In 1997 John Paul II appointed him Prefect of the Vatican Library and in 2006 he was ordained Titular Bishop of Opitergium (which later became Archbishop). That same year he was appointed Librarian of the Vatican Library as well as Archivist of the Vatican Secret Archives, which he retired from in 2012.

In 2007 he was elevated to Cardinal and installed as Cardin-Deacon of S. Giovani della Pigna on April 5, 2008.
