Scherer, Odilo Pedro*

Odilo Pedro Cardinal Scherer (born September 21, 1949 in São Francisco, Brazil) was ordained a priest of Toledo, Parana, Brazil on December 7, 1979. After seminary, he went on to receive his Doctorate of Sacred Theology in Rome and teach philosophy and theology.

In 2001, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo, ordained Titular Bishop of Novi as well as installed as Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo, which later became Archbishop of in 2007.

He was elevated to Cardinal in 2007 and installed as Cardinal-Priest of S. Andrea al Quirinale on February 17, 2008. Throughout his career, Cardinal Scherer has made diligent efforts promoting the spread of the New Evangelization.
