Cardinal Harvey was born on October 20, 1949 in Milwaukee, WI.
He was ordained Bishop on June 29, 1975 for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. On February 7, 1998 he was appointed Prefect of the Prefecture of the Papal Household and Titular Bishop of Memphis. His ordination as Bishop took place on March19, 1998.
On September 29, 2003 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Memphis.
On November 23, 2012 he was appointed Archpriest of the Basilica di San Paolo fuori le Mura {Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls Basilica}. The next day he was elevated to Cardinal and appointed Cardinal-Deacon of San Pio V a Villa Carpegna. His installation as Archpriest of the Basilica di San Paolo fuori le Mura {Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls Basilica} took place on January 13, 2013.
