    2 Samuel 7:18-19, 24-29

18Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and said, "Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? 19And yet this was a small thing in thy eyes, O Lord GOD; thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast shown me future generations, O Lord GOD! 24And thou didst establish for thyself thy people Israel to be thy people for ever; and thou, O LORD, didst become their God. 25And now, O LORD God, confirm for ever the word which thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house, and do as thou hast spoken; 26and thy name will be magnified for ever, saying, `The LORD of hosts is God over Israel,' and the house of thy servant David will be established before thee. 27For thou, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, hast made this revelation to thy servant, saying, `I will build you a house'; therefore thy servant has found courage to pray this prayer to thee. 28And now, O Lord GOD, thou art God, and thy words are true, and thou hast promised this good thing to thy servant; 29now therefore may it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee; for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken, and with thy blessing shall the house of thy servant be blessed for ever."

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 132:1-5, 11-14

1Remember, O LORD, in David's favor, all the hardships he endured; 2how he swore to the LORD and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, 3"I will not enter my house or get into my bed; 4I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, 5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." 11The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: "One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. 12If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies which I shall teach them, their sons also for ever shall sit upon your throne." 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his habitation: 14"This is my resting place for ever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.

  • Gospel

    Mark 4:21-25

21And he said to them, "Is a lamp brought in to be put under a bushel, or under a bed, and not on a stand? 22For there is nothing hid, except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret, except to come to light. 23If any man has ears to hear, let him hear." 24And he said to them, "Take heed what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you. 25For to him who has will more be given; and from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away."

    2 Corinthians 10:17--11:2

10 17"Let him who boasts, boast of the Lord." 18For it is not the man who commends himself that is accepted, but the man whom the Lord commends. 11 1I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me! 2I feel a divine jealousy for you, for I betrothed you to Christ to present you as a pure bride to her one husband.

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 45:11-12, 14-17

10Hear, O daughter, consider, and incline your ear; forget your people and your father's house; 11and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him; 13with all kinds of wealth. The princess is decked in her chamber with gold-woven robes; 14in many-colored robes she is led to the king, with her virgin companions, her escort, in her train. 15With joy and gladness they are led along as they enter the palace of the king. 16Instead of your fathers shall be your sons; you will make them princes in all the earth.

  • Gospel

    Matthew 16:24-27

24Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? 27For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.
