Daily Readings:

First Option

  • First Reading

    Genesis 2:4-9, 15

4These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. In the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5when no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up -- for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; 6but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground -- 7then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. 8And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9And out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 15The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 90:2-5, 12-14, 16

2Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God. 3Thou turnest man back to the dust, and sayest, "Turn back, O children of men!" 4For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. 5Thou dost sweep men away; they are like a dream, like grass which is renewed in the morning: 12So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. 13Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on thy servants! 14Satisfy us in the morning with thy steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 16Let thy work be manifest to thy servants, and thy glorious power to their children.

  • Gospel

    Matthew 6:31-34

31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' 32For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. 34"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.

    Colossians 1:24--2:3

1 24Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, 25of which I became a minister according to the divine office which was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, 26the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now made manifest to his saints. 27To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man mature in Christ. 29For this I toil, striving with all the energy which he mightily inspires within me. 2 1For I want you to know how greatly I strive for you, and for those at La-odice'a, and for all who have not seen my face, 2that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love, to have all the riches of assured understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, of Christ, 3in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

  • Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 62:6-7, 9

5For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him. 6He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. 8Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. [Selah]

  • Gospel

    Luke 6:6-11

6On another sabbath, when he entered the synagogue and taught, a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him. 8But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come and stand here." And he rose and stood there. 9And Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?" 10And he looked around on them all, and said to him, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored. 11But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.
