In January, the Diocese of Lafayette officially opened the causes for canonization of two Louisiana Catholics, and approved the cause of a third candidate for canonization.

Charlene Richard showed remarkable faith in the face of a terminal leukemia diagnosis. She died at the age of 12. Auguste “Nonco” Pelafigue was a single, lay Catholic who had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus until his death at 89. Lt. Father Verbis Lafleur was a military chaplain who gave his life to save others when he was only 32 years old.

Senior Features Writer Mary Farrow guest hosts this week's episode about these inspiring Cajun Catholics.
