Medina Estévez, Jorge Arturo Augustin

He was born in Santiago on December 23, 1926, and ordained a Priest on June 12, 1954, for the diocese of Santiago de Chile.

On December 18, 1984 he was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of Rancagua, Chile, and Titular Bishop of Thibilis. He was ordained as Bishop on January 6, 1985.

On November 25, 1987 he was appointed as Bishop of Rancagua, Chile, and on April 16, 1993 he was appointed as Bishop of Valparaíso, Chile.

He sesigned as Bishop of Valparaíso, Chile June 21, 1996 upon his appointment as Pro-Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

He was Elevated to Cardinal on Febuary 21, 1998, and appointed Cardinal-Deacon of San Saba. He was appointed as Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on February 23, 1998, and officially installed as Cardinal-Deacon of San Saba on May 24, 1998.

On October 1, 2002 he retired as Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and was later appointed as Cardinal-Priest of San Saba, on March 1, 2008.
