Cardinal Nycz was born on February 1, 1950 in Stara Wies.
He was ordained a deacon for Kraków {Cracow}, Poland on May 8, 1972 , and he was ordained a Priest for the diocese on May 20, 1973. On May 14, 1988 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop for the diocese, as well as Titular Bishop of Villa Regis. He was ordained Bishop on June 4, 1988.
On June 9, 2004 he was appointed Bishop of Koszalin-Ko?obrzeg, Poland, and was appointed Archbishop of Warszawa {Warsaw}, Poland on March 3, 2007. He was installed on April 1 of that year.
On June 9, 2007 he was appointed Ordinary of Poland, Faithful of Eastern Rites.
He was elevated to Cardinal on November 20, 2010 and appointed Cardinal-Priest of Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti. He was installed on April 29, 2011.
