Pope John Paul II’s prayer when he crowned Our Lady of Charity of Cobre, Cuba

Oh Virgin of Charity of Cobre,
Patroness of Cuba!
Hail Mary, full of grace!
You are the beloved daughter of the Father,
the Mother of Christ, our God,
The living Temple of the Holy Spirit.
Your very name, Virgin of Charity,
reminds us that  God is Love,
reminds us of the new commandment of Jesus,
calling forth the Holy Spirit:
love poured out in our hearts.
the fire of charity sent down on Pentecost on the Church,
gift of the full liberty if the sons of God.
Blessed are you among women
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus!
You have come to visit our people
and you have desired to remain with us
as our Mother and as Our Lady of Cuba,
throughout their pilgrimage
down the pathways of history.
Your name and your image are etched
In the mind and heart of every Cuban
living here in their Homeland or abroad,
as a sign of hope and the center of their fraternal communion.
Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother!
Pray for us before your son Jesus Christ,
Intercede for us with your motherly heart,
overflowing with the charity of the Holy Spirit.
Increase our faith, enliven our hope.
Strengthen and increase our love
Protect our families.
Protect our youths and children,
Console those who are suffering.
Oh Mother of the faithful and the pastors of the Church,
be our model and the star of the New Evangelization.
Oh Mother of Reconciliation!
gather together your people scattered throughout the world.
Make of the Cuban nation a home for brothers and sisters
So that this people may open
their minds, their hearts , their lives ,wide open to Christ,
the only Savior and Redeemer,
who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
for ever and ever. Amen.
