Franciscan president accepts pro-Obama board member's resignation

.- Franciscan University of Steubenville has announced that on Monday, Fr. Terence Henry, TOR, accepted the resignation of one of the school’s board of trustee members, Dr. Nicholas Cafardi, who recently made public his support of Sen. Barack Obama for president.

Shortly after becoming aware of Dr. Cafardi’s position in support of Sen. Obama, the university, which is known for its strong pro-life convictions, issued a statement emphasizing that Cafardi’s views were his own private views and underlining the university’s opposition to abortion.

Four days after distancing itself from Cafardi, university president Fr. Terence Henry announced that he had received a voluntarily submitted letter of resignation from Dr. Cafardi, and that he had accepted the board of trustee member’s resignation.

A statement from the university says that Fr. Henry expressed his thanks for the "many ways Dr. Cafardi has assisted and advised Franciscan University over the years."

In response to Johannes Bach: Chuck Baldwin, the Constitution Party candidate, is pro-life. From the CP platform: "Sanctity of Life

The Declaration of Independence states:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".

The Preamble of the Constitution states a purpose of the Constitution to be to:

"secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity".

We declare the unalienable right of Life to be secured by our Constitution "to ourselves and our Posterity". Our posterity includes children born and future generations yet unborn. Any legalization of the termination of innocent life of the born or unborn is a direct violation of our unalienable right to life.

The pre-born child, whose life begins at fertilization, is a human being created in God's image. The first duty of the law is to prevent the shedding of innocent blood. It is, therefore, the duty of all civil governments to secure and to safeguard the lives of the pre-born."

Good for Fr. Henry! You, sir, are a perfect example of one who follows the obligations of Confirmation, to defend the faith. A true soldier of Christ.

Regarding Patrigin from Canada's question questioning the faith we profess as Catholics.
Baptism vows renounce satan and all his evil, we renounce sin.
Abortion is clearly a serious sin and promoting and supporting this evil is NOT Catholic.

A kind hug does not mitigate the innocent blood sacrificed under phoney "rights".

I doubt party affiliation will be requested at the pearly gates.

The creed of our faith does not include "faith in the Republican Party."

However, it just happens to be true that both the Catholic faith and the Republican Party are Pro-Life. Obama is considered by many to be incredibly Anti-Life (going so far as to refuse to pass state legislation that would prevent the murder of a child that was live born during / survived a late term abortion attempt. Thus, it is not possible to be for Obama and also a true believer of the Catholic faith.

Our faith is not in the GOP, but in the dignity and value of every human life. And we, as Catholics must not support anyone who seeks, through action or inaction, the slaughter of people. Granted the GOP's stance on life is not unimpeachable, but the violence done to infants in the woman, and the mothers who carry them is the most heinous of all crimes against the dignity of man.

Patrigin,

The University's statements regarding Dr. Cafardi's views doesn't mention anything about the Republican party. It addresses Cafardi's support for Obama, who supports and will advocate greater availability of abortion and federal tax monies to support abortion on demand. If Obama was a Republican or a member of the Constitutional party, it wouldn't matter one wit.

To Patrigin. In answering your comment, how would you like to vote for a candidate, who is an advocate of Premeditated murder (not kill)of defenseless innocent babies, who is a leader of the party of death? Keep your own issues with your chief justice in Canada. This is our fight, not yours.

Hey Patrigin, it doesn't sound like he was forced to resign - faith in the Republican party is not necessary to be Catholic. Perhaps he resigned because he could not take being surrounded by good Christian pro-life people?
