Compulsory LGBT curriculum pushes ‘political agenda’ on schoolkids, California parents charge

.- A California school district decision to mandate a new curriculum requiring children as young as five years old to be taught about homosexual and transgender communities has prompted significant protest from parents who charged that a "political agenda" is pressing age-inappropriate material upon their children. The Unified School District in Alameda has proposed a curriculum with the stated intention of addressing bullying, respect and acceptance. The curriculum includes a 45-minute Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) lesson once a year from kindergarten through fifth grade. The kindergarten lesson will focus on the harm of teasing while the fifth graders will study sexual orientation stereotypes, Fox News reports. Second grade course material includes a children’s book about homosexual penguins trying to create a family. The book is titled "And Tango Makes Three." Protesting parents in Alameda, a suburb of San Francisco and Oakland, said the curriculum is definitely not age-appropriate and the issues are best learned at home. They were also angry they will not be allowed to keep their children out of the classes. "I believe these children are far too young to be learning about what these issues mean," Alaina Stewart, an Alameda mother of three elementary school children, told Fox News. "These are adult issues and they are being thrust upon the children." One father of schoolchildren charged that the policy would violate the First Amendment rights of those who don’t support homosexuality because of their religion. Kirsten Vital, superintendent of the Alameda Unified School District, said students reported feeling bullied on LGBT issues. "This work is in response to teachers asking for tools to combat name-calling and bullying at school," she told Fox News. One parent named Michael Williams said he thought LGBT issues would come up anyway and that teachers should be prepared to help kids "respond appropriately." Another father named David, who asked that his last name be withheld, told Fox News an "overwhelming" majority of parents spoke against the LGBT instruction at one of the school board meetings, but their protests had little effect. "The chairman of the school board repeatedly claimed to the audience that the curriculum is evenly supported and opposed," he said. "I am beginning to lose confidence of the board, as it seems to have a preconceived political agenda and [does] not truly represent their constituents’ opposition to the curriculum." Karen England, a spokeswoman for the conservative policy advocacy group Capitol Resource Institute, noted that there are five protected categories under anti-discrimination laws but the curriculum only focuses on sexual orientation. She told Fox News she believes the curriculum committee purposely excluded religion. England suggested "an agenda is being pushed." A May 21 report from the Capitol Resource Institute said that school board meetings had been packed with people and claimed 90 percent of those who spoke opposed the curriculum. The only speakers allowed during the Monday continuation of a May 12 meeting were those who had attended the first meeting. Saying that speakers were "courteous" and presented "well-reasoned, articulate opposition," the Capitol Resource Institute reported that hecklers "repeatedly booed and hissed when parents and students rose to express their opposition. One man angry that he was not allowed to address the audience about his support for the homosexual schoolwork physically charged one woman presenter, forcing other men in the audience to come to her defense and forcibly remove the attacker. One father denounced the actions of homosexual advocates, saying "This bullying is taking place by the people you're asking me to entrust my children to!" He also said he had recently been labeled a bigot and a white supremacist for expressing his opposition to what he called social indoctrination. According to the Capitol Resource Institute, the few speakers who favored the curriculum repeatedly stated that the LGBT curriculum was "just a start" and "the first step" in teaching equality in classrooms. Some reportedly told the board that no parental opt-out should be allowed because the children of curriculum opponents were those who most needed the instruction. Another speaker at the meeting, an Alameda principal and teacher for 45 years, said the curriculum would place teachers in a very difficult position. She expressed concern over the questions sexual classroom teaching would prompt in young children and was booed by supporters of the curriculum. The final vote on the curriculum will take place on the evening of Tuesday May 26. Subscriber comments:

Who is pushing this agenda? None other than Abe Foxman and the ADL. Of course CNA wouldn't mention this "For fear of the Jews".

Beautiful! Next we will have compulsory courses on the joys of bestiality. And again, not one word of condemnation from our illustrious hierarchy.

If those who wish to teach about homosexuality and other aspects of sex(?) want to do so, they should have classes for the PARENTS not the kids--That way the PARENTS could see just what their teaching contains.
I sincerely hope theAlameda parents FIGHT this .

This is so sad...how come we're not able to learn and to respect other religions and these school leaders are trying to make our children learn about LGBT? I saw on the news an african american father who said, why are they trying to teach his children this, they're not teaching them about macolm x or black history at this age. What about teaching acceptance of gender, age and racial descrimination? LGBT is a choice...don't push your agenda on our children.

With so little resistance from the “moral majority” over the last fifty years (while they continued their petty knit picking at each other), the devil has gotten so much more daring and visibly active in our society that we don’t even recognize him when he stands before us.
This “dispute” would never have been possible forty years ago. These board members would have been laughed out of town. However, we let Hollywood inject immorality into their films a little at a time along with nudity into magazines and then even the television in our living rooms. This ignited the sexual revolution of the sixties and seventies and suddenly it was no holds barred. I recall that Ohio State University at that time had built two new co-ed dormitory “towers” and before long the students referred to them as Sodom and Gomorrah. That’s how fast the feel good fires of hell had spread over our spiritual landscape from the World War II aftermath when the country resumed normality and so many young couples settled down to raise a family in peacetime. Those “happy days” disappeared like a serene Christmas snowfall in a rain storm when the sexual revolution took possession of the media and our minds shifted worship from God to celebrities. It’s way beyond time for Christians of all denominations to get their act “together”, stop bickering, work hand in hand and heart

This is awful. I am so glad that we home school. Haven't always and I used to substitute teach. There is so much to deal with at school already. Get your kids out asap.
Money talks. Each student brings in XX amount of dollars to the school. Start pulling kids out & eventually they'll notice.

Vote the School board out of office, if 90% of the parents disagree with the board, use your power as voters to change things.

Don't people see what this world is coming to?! Another Sodom and Gomorrah to say the least! Why are schools forcing children to learn about homosexual activities, and refusing to speak or let them speak about God?!
It is SICK! God help us!!

I feel badly for the parents and children in Alameda. Not to be glib, but this is yet another good reason to homeschool.

Did any of these people VOTE? In my little corner of the world, with perhaps several thousand registered voters in our school district, only a few dozen bothered to vote in school board elections this month.

"said the ... issues are best learned at home." While that statement is very true, it ignores the fact that a very high percentage of families do no such thing. I have had to counsel a child who sexual education at home was limited to "you know, like dogs."

I don't see any evidence that this curriculum has been tested and scientifically shown in peer-reviewed studies to meet the claims of its advocates.
Schoolers, especially ones in politician-run school systems, have fallen for fad after fad. Remember New Math, Values Clarification, Language Labs Programmed Instruction, and Whole Language? Failures all and none were properly tested before those schemes were turned loose on thousands of children.

This is secular humanists in action. These people run the school systems. They are trying to make children ashamed of faith in God and in a system of Christian indoctrination, called Christian teaching. Only what they teach is correct. Children are their prisoners for the time they are in school and they can teach them anything that they deem appropriate. Godless thinking is "Politically Correct". Homosexuality is not appropriate as a teaching for young children. Children must learn to be loving and compassionate with all people and should not be focused on these complex issues. Adults have no understanding on how to encounter each other about homosexuality how can they teach children? A bully is like an Alpha male dog as they seek dominance over other children,it has nothing to do with sexual orientation. These issues are ones of a basic cruelty that is an inherent quality of original sin and that needs to be addressed. Sin among people is always the specific issue that needs to be addressed. Our society denies sin and that is the problem.
Homosexuality is an orientation and not a sin until it is acted out as perverse behavior. Heterosexuality is also an orientation and is not a sin until it exhibits itself in perverse behavior. It is the perverseness of the behaviors that needs to be addressed as a sin, more than the orientation. People must learn to be kind to each other than they can be comfortable and reasonable in all relationships. Sin is real and it destroys reason.

This is a horrible curriculum to be imposed on any young children. Surely the teachers can find many ways of dealing with the small problems of teasing and bullying, without thrusting adult issues on them which should be handled in the home.

Get your kids OUT of the public school system. Home school or send them to private religious schools.
