President Obama at the LGBT reception

.- President Barack Obama on Monday addressed an “LGBT Pride” reception at the White House, characterizing opponents of homosexual political issues as holding fast to “worn arguments and old attitudes.” One critical observer said the event aimed to placate the president’s donors but was “insulting” to mainstream Americans.

The president began his comments by saying “Welcome to your White House.” Praising what he considered the “extraordinary progress that we have made,” he said there were “unjust laws to overturn and unfair practices to stop.”

“[T]here are still fellow citizens, perhaps neighbors or even family members and loved ones, who still hold fast to worn arguments and old attitudes; who fail to see your families like their families; and who would deny you the rights that most Americans take for granted.”

Noting the effect of the 1969 Stonewall riots and the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the LGBT movement, the president said the push for “basic equality” will continue. He said he has required all federal agencies to extend “as many federal benefits as possible” to “LGBT families” and also noted his advocacy of repealing “the so-called Defense of Marriage Act” to help end “discrimination.”

He pledged to push for “hate crimes” legislation, to increase more federal benefits for “LGBT couples and their children,” and to remove the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy barring open homosexuals from service.

“The truth is when these folks protested at Stonewall 40 years ago no one could have imagined that you -- or, for that matter, I -- would be standing here today,” the president’s remark’s concluded. “So we are all witnesses to monumental changes in this country. That should give us hope, but we cannot rest.”

The president also acknowledged some audience members, including the openly homosexual Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire V. Gene Robinson, whose consecration widened rifts within the global Anglican Communion. The president also greeted by name Ambassadors Jim Hormel and Michael Guest, Export-Import Bank chairman Fred Hochberg, and Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown. Brown describes herself as bisexual, while the men were all self-declared homosexuals.

Tom McClusky, Vice President of Family Research Council Action, commented about President Obama’s remarks in a Tuesday phone interview with CNA.

McClusky said he thought the president’s comment about “worn arguments and old attitudes” was “insulting the majority of Americans who still believe in marriage as between one man and one woman.”

“A number of his policies are outside the mainstream,” he remarked. “I’m not offended by his comments, but I think many Americans would be.”

He said LGBT activists try to frame the debate by saying to opponents “you’re the past, we’re the future.”
“I’d put it more like: We’re in eternity, trying to fight the present,” he told CNA.

McClusky said the president has “not at all” engaged with those who oppose LGBT politics.

“It’s been a very one-sided discussion, even more so than on the life issue.”

He claimed the president’s action was not responding to a policy issue but rather a “donor issue.”

“I’ve never seen a White House move so quickly from a position until they started hearing a number of homosexual donors were going to stop giving to the Democratic Party,” he added.

McClusky also charged that the president’s pledge to “shift attitudes” on homosexuality "certainly will" undermine parents who wish to instill sexual morals in their children. The FRC Action vice president pointed to Obama’s appointment of Kevin Jennings to the Department of Education. Jennings headed the group Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which McClusky described as working to “normalize” homosexuality among students from kindergarten onward.

“They’ve made it very clear that parents should have no rights in this kind of education,” he charged, noting Massachusetts court cases where parents were told they did not have the right to determine what was appropriate for their schoolchildren.

McClusky told CNA he thought President Obama is getting a “mixed reaction” among LGBT activists despite the number of LGBT appointments. In his view, there may be a backlash from the homosexual community but President Obama may fear more of a backlash among “everyday Americans who don’t agree with the homosexual agenda.”
“Those numbers are much greater,” he said.

Asked whether LGBT issues can succeed without marginalizing traditional morals and Christian beliefs, McClusky said it was “very clear” even to liberal scholars that “sexual license” will win “every single time” in disputes with religious liberty.

McClusky suggested that President Obama realizes he does not have the power to do what he intends and may run into resistance “even among his allies” in Congress who face re-election.

He then described President Obama as “very good at learning from past,” pointing to President Clinton overreach on homosexual issues which may have contributed to the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress.

“With this threat from donor pullout,” McClusky said, President Obama is discovering that he needs to answer to his donors and to his “eclectic group of organizations” who helped elect him “before he answers to anybody else.”

CNA also sought comment from several officials with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, including an official with their media relations office, but did not receive a response.

I thought the Courage Apostolate was fair treatment of our Same Sex brothers and sisters?
Check it out its an interesting sight.
I dont treat same sex individuals any different than I would heterosexuals.
Maybe this will change in the years ahead as we come to a fuller scientific understanding of Same Sex individuality.
I think you will be surprised by this Apostolate which I dont every hear spoken of on any of the commentary.

Since Obama distains all who refuse the logic of LGBT rights he should examine the greatest oxymoron of all time - gay "marriage"- in the light of truth, reason and logic, overlooked/ignored as these essentials are in his address.

God is the Creator and in control of everything and nothing happens without Him allowing it. I believe that Obama is the Pilate of our times. He'll say and do anything for political reasons. He doesn't know what truth is.
Truth- John 18: 37 "For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice."

THE SPLENDOR OF TRUTH shines forth in the works of the Creator and, in a special way, in man, created in the image and likeness of God (cf. Gen 1:26). Truth enlightens man's intelligence and shapes his freedom, leading him to know and love the Lord. Hence the Psalmist prays: "Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord" (Ps 4:6). — Veritatis Splendor
Dear Lord, I implore you have mercy on us and may our political leaders and all of your children hear your voice, recognize
You and the truth.

No surprise here as Obama has consistenly sent a message that he regards same sex marriage, the "gay agenda," and anything relative to "gay rights" as being no different than anything else and we should celebrate the agy agenda and treat it as equal to a male/female relationship and marriage. Obama simply sees no difference between same sex marraiga and activities and male/female marriage and activities.

The Church is in no more position to change the Divine Truth as revealed by God in the New Testament as the state is. Homosexuality is wrong and against the natural moral law established by God Himself, not because I say so, but because He says so. Homosexuality is the gravest form of self-absorption and wickedness, God is not glorified in any way.

"Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameful acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct. They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God's decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them. {Rom 1:24-32 RSV}

One more thing. My father who is a devout Catholic told me that he doesn't even think our president believes in God. Could be why he is having trouble finding a "church".

Obama was voted in by a lot of special interests groups and is caught between giving in to them to keep power or holding them off because the majority of Americans don't agree with these groups. This is the problem. Politicians spend more time with keeping their power than doing what the majority of their constituents want. Our government is failing to work for the common good. That is why we are a mess. President Obama's lack of experience is a scientific experiment for this so-called "change". He never defined what that was and we are reaping what HE wants to sow.

Pray for our president and politicians that they represent the common good.

This web site needs to get a life. Big deal. Just let these people enjoy the freedoms you and I do. There are so many bigger things to focus our time, money and energy. For gods sake do some good in the world. Look past your own front door. There is a need every where. Put your actions to the most use. Not on this.

Interesting article, but Obama did say during his run for the Presidency that he supports civil rights for the gays.

Repeatedly, Obama declared he would repeal DOMA and DADT. Now, the gays want to see his promises fulfilled.

If Obama repeatedly declared his intent to make abortion illegal, would we not be putting pressure on him if he wavered?

Obama won. It's not like he kept his feelings hidden.

While I personally do not support his positions, I'm not sure "our way or the highway" is the position Christians should take. Again, he won while openly stating his positions.

My fear, to be honest, is that we are pushing the gays into a corner. If all that stands between them and "equality" is us; where will we end up?

“The “approval” of the sinfulness of man is also being displayed in a brazen manner in other areas of modern life. Teachers in the classrooms and other misdirected poor souls, such as some TV celebrities and hosts, go out of their way to teach and demonstrate to children and others that homosexuality is “acceptable” to God and man, or worse, that it is not sinful. Some churches and their hierarchy and clergy preach in front of God and man that homosexuality is permissible – that it is not a sin. Judges and other lawmakers are enacting laws that allow gays or lesbians to live together as a man and wife do; to have the same tax advantages and other benefits as married couples do; to allow them to “wed” one another; and to allow them to adopt children, or to act as surrogate mothers, in some cases. Do you not yet realize, all of you who are sinning in these manners, that you must not enact laws, condone, or be a party to sinfulness? Man must not attempt to supersede or countermand the Commandments, mandates, laws, decrees or jurisdiction of God, you must understand! Should you attempt to bless in “marriage” that which God abhors? And you are doing this by the acts that many of you are committing, that allow either yourselves or others to sin – whether it be in matters of homosexuality, pedophilia, child abuse, lowering the age that children are “legally” allowed to commit sexual acts out of wedlock, “legalizing” divorce, as well as in other areas of modern life in which man is

I am glad that I won't be here in 30 years, no way at all. Of course, maybe God will end this sick world before too long. We can pray!

Obama is correct about worn attitudes. The misinformation and pandering to fear by the right has been longstanding. GLBT people are fully human and are just as loving, caring and compassionate as those who attack them. CNA would do well to listen to and engage with gay and lesbian couples. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has not been in the forefront in talking about the mystery of human sexuality - they need to listen to people like Bp.Gene Robinson rather than villify him and others.

I am grateful for the leadership of the Episcopal Church in these matters and their willingness to look at the sacramental dimension of human sexuality rather than the Roman Catholic preoccupation with body parts. When you get right down to it, the RC position is very similar to Hugh Hefner's Playboy Philosophy -- both focus on body parts instead of relationships and both seem unconcerned about the depth and quality of relationships in judging moral and ethical questions. Let's have sexually healthy people talk about the morality of human sexuality - this is not just a "book thing."

If God and traditional values were an old idea of stale values and thinking,it seems they are pretty new to Obama. As a matter of fact they seem pretty new to a lot of people. Money is all in all to a politically corrupt political organization and that is the same old stale way of being and thinking and acting to the ways of ones own self interests. Gayrock Obama has to think of straight thinking, taxpaying citizens too! Many more of them put him in office. Common ground is finding a way to make fair laws and policies that are reasonable for the governing of all people. That seems to be an all too new idea to his way of thinking,as he is a very subjective thinker. The subject of his concern is his own political well being. That is the same old stale way of government and he is the President of it.

According to your article, Tom McClusky said the President has "not at all" engaged with those who oppose LGBT politics.

LGBT "politics"??? Would you like to know what LGBT "politics" means? It's fair treatment, nothing more, nothing less. Law-abiding, taxpaying Gay Americans deserve the same legal benefits, responsibilities, and protections that Straight Americans have always taken for granted. Straight people have never had to worry about being kicked out of their jobs, homes, or the military solely because of their sexual orientation; Gay people shouldn't have to worry, either. Straight couples have never been forbidden from marrying; Gay couples should not be, either. You want to know what the "Gay Agenda" is? You need to look no further than The Golden Rule: Treat Gay individuals and couples as you would want yourselves and your loved ones treated. It's that simple. Thank goodness more and more Americans understand this with every passing year.
