Homosexual unions are not marriages or families, says Mexican bishop

.- Auxiliary Bishop Antonio Lerma Nolasco of Mexico City said this week that homosexual unions cannot be considered marriages or families.  “They can be called whatever you want, but never marriage,” he said.

In his homily at the Cathedral, the bishop exhorted the faithful to defend marriage as part of the divine plan, which starts with the union between a man and a woman. Because of the origin of marriage, the bishop said unions that are distinct from this “act of mutual love” cannot be considered marriage.

After pointing out that man and woman were created to form a couple capable of passing on love, Bishop Nolasco said other kinds of unions such as those between people of the same sex, cannot be called families, since “rather than fostering unity,” these unions “attack family values.”

Same-sex unions “can be called whatever you want, but never marriage,” Bishop Nolasco insisted.

“God created them man and woman, and for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and cling to his wife, and the two will be one, such that they are no longer two but one flesh,” he said, quoting from Genesis.

I am Catholic experiencing same-sex attraction. I agree that Homosexual unions are not marriages even the term 'union' should be put in question. First of all, let us use the argument forwarded by pro-gay groups. Using that there exist in 'nature' homosexuality. They argue that homosexuality exists naturally. If so, do animals' instincts just lead them to have sex and NOT to copulate or breed? If this is the 'norm' then it should be noticed to all species and not just to a particular group, or herd, or just a number of sample. And since they further stretched this argument with man as an animal, are we supposed to say that we do not 'think' but use our instinct instead? On Rights issue, let us remember the French revolution in trying to change their country for all to afford equal rights. I remember the Catholic nuns who were killed because they do not wish to let go of their vow of chastity. In effect they were told that they are not free because of RELIGION. I think that giving Caesar what is due to Caesar in this sense is to respect and to understand men with Same Sex attraction. Other than that, there is a need to give God what is due to God.

It doesn't matter what the "Church" believes about same-sex marriage. In America, we have the separation of CHurch and State. That means religious beliefs are irrelevant to any consideration of access to civil marriage for gay people.

Praise be Jesus Christ! If only more bishops and pastors such as Bishop Nolasco would speak the truth about many of the evils that plague our current world because people need to hear the authentic truth of Jesus as it is written in the Gospels! The Church for too many years has neglected her duties and look where that has brought us! We are a poorer society because of it!

God created man and woman to be united as one flesh bound in marriage to procreate and fill the earth. There is no right for gays to say they belong within this definition of marriage as they cannot procreate.

Bishop Nolasco of Mexico has truly hit the nail on its head...this is the first time I read a satement of truth based on the doctrine of God regarding gay marriages. That their union cannot be called a marriage simply because it is violative of the meaning of marriage as defined by Jesus when he raised marriage to the level of a Sacrament...that it is a union of man and a woman to fulfill God's plan of life on earth...that when they are united in marriage they become ONE. GAY marriage is actually addressed to the civil government to recognize their union as a legal marriage in order to avail of the same rights and privileges under the law similar to other marriages between man and woman. The stand of the church is that their kind of union is not and cannot be placed on the same category as marriage between a woman and a man because marriage as an institution in the church is between a man and a woman, and not between man and another man, or, between a woman and another woman. In other words, what the gay people want is to create a legal identity for their kind of union, definitely not marriage as ordinarily defined, in order for them to avail of the same rights and privileges as other people who are legally married under the law. The ball is now in the hands of the people in the legislative department what to do with the imbroglio the gay people have created to recognize what they think is right for them.
