While I deeply sympathize with the Maronites. It's tempered by the fact that their government allowed (and did not ask for assistance to stop) a non-state (that is not affiliated with the Lebanese Military) armed force (Hezboullah)to be in a position to attack a sovereign nation (Israel) that it was well known to be hostile to. With any type of luck Israel will weaken Hezboullah enough so that it can be disarmed so that it will not have the ability to start a war again in the future and allow the Lebanese Government to exercise control over all Lebanese territory. If this does not happen; Hezboullah will have won this significant battle of Good (the west) against Evil (Islamo Fascist- At Least) and Hezboullah will become a dominant player in the region with extensive support from Iran (which they are really an arm of) and at least passively supported by Syria with other countries to follow especially when Iran gets Nukes.
