Humanity must rediscover source of hope in the Eucharist, return to Eucharistic adoration, Pope says

.- Meeting with members of the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses this morning, Pope Benedict XVI said today that he hopes the practice of Eucharistic adoration “will become ever more widespread.”

The Holy Father recalled, "just how beneficial the rediscovery of Eucharistic adoration by many Christians is.”

“How much need modern humanity has to rediscover the source of its hope in the Sacrament of the Eucharist,” the Pope said. “I thank the Lord because many parishes, alongside the devout celebration of Mass, are educating the faithful in Eucharistic adoration. And it is my hope that - also in view of the next International Eucharistic Congress - this practice will become ever more widespread."

In his address to the delegates, the Pope first recalled how they are currently preparing the 49th International Eucharistic Congress, due to be held in Quebec, Canada, in June 2008.  Eucharistic congresses, he said, "are always a source of spiritual renewal, an occasion to make better known the Blessed Eucharist, which was the most valuable treasure Jesus left us. They also constitute an encouragement for the Church to spread the love of Christ at all levels of society, and to testify to it without hesitation."

Pope Benedict also referred to the forthcoming post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation on the Eucharist, which will bring together the key issues that arose during the October 2005 Synod on that Sacrament, the Pope concluded by giving assurances that the document "will help the Church to prepare and celebrate ... the Eucharistic congress to be held in June 2008."

Our Lord Jesus has given us a means through we can live in communion with Him..It is because of His infinite Love for us..The Catholic church has survived through the ages by making available the real presence of Jesus to mankind..

Dear Sirs; The only reason to be catholic or orthodox is the Real Presence of Christ in the Mass or Divine Liturgy;otherwise if one does not believe this, he or she should go become a protestant..The Real Presence is the fundamental, infallible, core of the Church..I "know" this because I was an episcopalian who went to communion but felt nothing...I began attending catholic mass, and like StIgnatius could not stop crying during the consecration...I "knew" something was present or happening...Christ was made manifest to us in the mass...I cant prove it,,I know it by faith..and when you have seen videos of hosts bleeing documented human blood, it only adds to the proof; but the faith makes it real in the end...no church should be without adoration...it would be uncatholic not to do so....every priest should make adoration part of his ministry and message...thank you. Christ's body was sacraficed and His blood spilled for our sins.

Without the Lord, we would never have existed. Eucharistic Adoration should be greatly encouraged in parishes. It is terrible that people have gotten away from this and many parishes no longer have it....is 40 hours too much of a sacrafice to some people for Christ, even though He sacraficed Himself for us??

Our Parish St Mary on the Hill is celebrating 10 years of Perpetual Adoration this Wednesday November 15. The blessings we have received are immeasurable, including a stewardship parish funded Catholic School from grades K-8. The Lord is good to us and had returned 10 fold the time we have dedicated to Him in prayer. Set up this program in your parish and those people needed to fill the 24 hours a day will come!!

What a Blessing all of you are to me. I chose to write a paper on Eucharistic Adoriation prior to Vatican II and after. You have blessed me with wonderful insights into this most wonderful Adoration of our Lord and Savior and Creator. If only every one knew the truth of this truly miraculous reality as you do. Certainly, there are skeptics today as there were biblically in John 6 and they still want to understand before they can believe. Pray for them! This is truly a hard saying as Jesus Himself said. Today only 30% of us believe in the true presence;so, is there any wonder why we have trouble filling our Eucharist Adoration hours and Chapels. Our Holy Father and the Bishops in union with him are bringing great hope to mankind. Just think if every parent and relative of every serviceman and service woman stopped in for a minute to ask the Creator in the Blessed Sacrment for protection and help; His armor and protection would do so much more than anything the government could provide. The power that we could bring against the forces of evil would be unbelievable. Just think if all Catholic churches prayed after each Mass as we did for the conversion of Russia and invoked the protection of St Michael again what miraculous graces would again flow over the United States. Let's pray for this from our leaders. Could someone tell me what Eucharistic Adoration was like prior to Vatican II. Visit our Eucharistic Lord, a prisoner in the tabernacle who waits for your visit.

The Adoration chapel in our parish was a keynote for my wife & I during our period of courtship & engagement. Since our wedding 3 years ago, our lives have been enriched by our personal weekly adoration commitments.

The parish has had 24-7 adoration since the building was dedicated in 2001. And now fully one-third of our diocese's seminarians are from our parish alone! When you include parishioners studying for other dioceses and orders, we have at least 11 seminarians from our parish of about 850 families. Praise God! This is a good example of the fruit of faith-filled, Holy Spirit-empowered Eucharistic Adoration.

PEOPLE JUST DON'T SEEM TO REALIZE THAT THIS IS JESUS- BODY BLOOD SOUL DIVINITY - JUST WAITING FOR US TO COME VISIT HIM. I HAVE EXPERIENCED SO MANY MIRACLES AND BLESSINGS IN MY LIFE AND IN MY FAMILY. As I am reading all your comments I am pleased to say that this very afternoon several families came together with their young children for adoration of our Eucharistic Jesus in the company of Fr Donald Arsenault. We try to gather monthly in a small chapel in our Cathedral. The children look forward to this time of adoration. They are learning to love our Lord with reverence and they are so well disciplined. I am priviledged to adore our Eucharistic Jesus with the children and their parents. Our diocese has one adoration chapel opened from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm seven days a week with some changes during weekend masses. I will be attending the Eucharistic Congress in Quebec city in 2008.
PS In closing, may I add that adoration of our Lord is more than a devotion, we are observing the first commandment: One God you shall love and adore.

I praise God that our Holy Father is trying to have the Bishops and Priests become more vigilent in promoting the "Real Presence" of Jesus in the Eucharist. Eugharistic Adoration and SILENCE in our Churches (which represent the House of God - Sacred Sanctuaries) where He is truly Present in the Tabernacles has been lost in so many of our Chatholic Churches and MUST be brought back to the peoples' attention. The Reverence and Awe of His Real Presence has been lost and so many of the faithful treat His House like a town hall immmediately before of after the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass. This is shameful and so damaging to ourselves. The more we open our Churches to Eucharistic Adoration to more our Eucharistic Lord will transform His people into His image. I praise God for our Holy Father and will continue to pray for conversion of hearts the world over.

One of the first things Pope John Paul II did when he became pope was establish Euch adoration in St. Peters in Rome. Then he wrote a magnificent encyclical on the Eucharist and now Pope Benedict has been pleading for Eucharistic adoration. I have discovered its the parish priests who are the difficult ones who refuse the people who also ask for this powereful needed devotion. Are they afraid some work will have to be done? Well there are lay groups (it is the age of the laiety) who can organize this very well! Many parishes are mostly about money today maybe because so much money was spent on settling sexual scandals! Please pastors, lay people let's get back to Jesus in His Blessed Sacrament! The holy Mass, reverence. St. Pio spent 16 hours hearing
confessions so often. Now we are fortunate to get an hour or two.

Our weekly Divine Mercy prayer group has been concluding with twenty minutes of Eucharistic Adoration. On numerous occasions a member of our group has received a message from Jesus during these times of adoration. One of the recent messages follows: My Dear Children, It pleases me to have you come to be with Me. I am here with you and waiting for you. So few come to really be just with Me. Much selfishness has to go away to truly want to spend time in quiet with Me. Keep coming for I am always here with My arms outstretched.

We used to have Adoration on Mondays from 10:30 to 6:00. Sometimes there were not enough people to fill each hour so our priest said we would not be having it anymore. He says there is no difference in having the Blessed Sacrament exposed on the altar than making a visit anytime we wanted to in church. Please tell me what is the difference?

The most powerful thing that could ever happen is having "Adoration "in each parish. We are blessed here in st. john's to have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in 3 areas of the archdioces . I am so drawn to Adoration that I see of making 8 Holy Hours a week, besides the First Friday Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Now, I must tell you that many graces and healing has taken place during time before the B. S. I will just mention 1 and that was when my husband had been having great pain with a kidney problem. He had a stone in one kidney that was 8 pounds, he just could walk. One doctor told me that if he operated it would be such ,that he could die. In all the time making my Holy hours I had been praying sooo much that God would intervene in this case, and so He did.My husband foung a young surgon who operated ,and guess what!!my husband came out of the surgery perfect with no side affects. He is to Jesus in the B. S. that knows our needs and knows our faithfulness, that He does and can work miracles. I praise and thank God all the time for what He has done. Many others, which I do not have the time to tell. Please, I tell you do take time to visit Jesus and put all your trust and Faith in Him. He is a loving God and He does care about our needs and troubles. Didn't He say," Come to me all you who are heavely laden and I will refresh You"

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV

Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?" When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, "Does this offend you? What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:60-63 NKJV

Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. Proverbs 30:6 NKJV

For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another-- He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. Hebrews 9:24-28 NKJV

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10: 10-14 NKJV

How timely. I just got back from an hour and an half of Eucharistic Adoration. It's always when I am the most tired or most busy that going to EA makes "time stand still" and the fruits of the day 100 fold. M theresa used to tell her nuns if they were too tired or too busy, to spend MORE time in EA. God really does work that way. And for anyone reading who has any doubts of the "REAL PRESENCE", I assure you Jesus won't be more real if the 2nd coming occurs tonight!

Bishop Sheen used to do a holy hour EVERY day. He said something to the effect that if EVERYONE in the WORLD did a holy hour, the world would "return to heaven"--or something close to that, quoting from memory. Imagine, all the world's problems, all the sages who think they have the solutions, all the bickering and hate in congress. And yet, the one SURE cure for it all, Jesus in his real presence, totally free, open to everyone age sex creed religion, often is alone with no visitors. But, he patiently waits.

I started taking some of my protestant friends who really love Jesus. Can you imagine if the news headline was "Jesus in such and such church; all are welcome to visit." You wouldn't be able to get a plane into town, yet, the truth is, he's in every Catholic chruch in every city in the world. Maybe we just need to get the world out better. Even if it's not total exposure, which is so beautiful, any visit to the real presense is always available in any catholic church.

Our parish for about a year now has adoration for about an hour on Wednesday mornings after the children's school mass. It was started at the request of many parishioners. However, it seems to be done rather haphazardly. As soon as mass is done, the priest simply sets out the monstrance with the host already in it just before the recessional hymn is sung. Then while people are trying to pray, the schoolkids are busily filing out and whispering, and teachers are packing up instuments and books. No opening prayers are said, and at least one day when I was at the mass, the priest(who is a very kindly person) instructed the kids to genuflect on one knee during adoration, and to simply bow at other times. After all this there is about an hour of adoration and then without any closing prayers said, and while lights are being turned off and such, the priest returns and puts Jesus back into the tabernacle. Now I do not really blame this priest,; he is a very kind, gentle-spirited person and well-liked. A convert to the faith, he received his seminary training at one of the most liberal seminaries in the country. So I really do not blame him for seemingly casual manner in which these things are done. It is a step in the right direction to have even this much adoration as it has been a very liberal parish for a number of years

I am happy to say that I am totally addicted to Eucharistic Adoration. I have been visiting Jesus in the Holy Eucharist for 10 years on almost a daily basis. I am receiving much grace and strength to carry life's burdens and sufferings. It has happened many times that during deep prayer and adoration things started chanching around me. The Holy Eucharist and Flowers next to it were illuminated. I can't describe the beautiful glow and colors. That is one of many signs that Jesus is truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Remember, we don't have to go on expensive and far away pilgrimages to see miracles. The best pilgrimage is as near as your Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.

Pope Benedict XVI couldn't be more right! Since my reversion and immediate entry into lay formation in the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) I have had the privilege of participating in Holy Mass and Eucharistic Adoration nearly every day. During these past eight years I have been blessed with a wife, two boys, four "little saints" in heaven and a new family of believers who love Jesus and Mary and desire nothing other than to do the Father's will. Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Liturgy of the Hours and the family Rosary are the foundation, the bedrock of community life---and that means secular as well as religious. If we really hope to change the world, at this late hour, we must breathe life into "community" by emulating the lives of the early Christians. In the Society of Our Lady we strive (and mostly fail) to serve on family ecclesial teams made up of priests, religious and laity. Our goal is to support one another in love, through graced friendships and the complementarities of our vocations to bring all peoples to discipleship of Jesus and Mary. This charism, based on the essential nature of the Triune God and the witness of the Holy Family, offers hope to the modern world in all its brokenness.
This hope is based on the Eucharist, because in family ecclesial teams you live from Eucharist to Eucharist, and the Real Presence of Christ is the source, center and summit of our lives. His Light, Life and Love provide us the Way.

I go every week to my Eucharistics Adoation Holy Hour every Thursday night. The triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is the Eucharistic Jesus. There's nothing like being in front of the Lord and to listen to Him and to adore, thank, gratify, and to ask Him for petitions. We have a fairly steady group of about 12-13 people I'd say who go every week. We pray for the world. The Eucharist is the center of the our faith. Eucharistic Adoration should be among our devotions alongside the Mass and the Rosary.

We have had Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and adoration from 9am to 9pm. in our chapel, Mon. thru Fri. for abou 4-5 yrs. Now we are being told we can no longer have expostion in the monstrance. It will have to be in the closed tabernacle, per rules from Rome because exposition is not allowed for private adoration with less 60 or 80 people present for our large parish.
It is being suggested to continue adoration of the Bessed Sacrament in the tabernacle in the chapel. Also, to continue sign-up for adoration hours as we have been doing. This seems as though people will not sign up since there doesn't need to be a commitment. It's much like making a visit to a church as we've always been able to do. Please, we need clarification! What is the actual teaching of our Church on this, and also how is it to be interpreted? We feel that many blessings have come to our people and to our parish with our adoration. HELP!

Without God we can do NOTHING but with Him we can do EVERYTHING. Look at our world. God is being taken out of everything. With all respect, Mr. McCaffrey, I believe the Liberalism of Vatican II has a lot to do with it. Also, you are totally right in blaming laziness & arrogance (of parishioners). Yes, the seminaries (dioceses) should be pushing more. Also to blame is the manner in which the dioceses handle this beautiful Sacrament today.
I'm 65 years old and come from small town Saskatchewan where we didn't have a resident parish priest...he came from the monastery 7 miles away, every Sunday morning, an hour before 8AM High Mass to hear confessions (there was always a huge line up). The second mass, a Low Mass, was at 11AM. However, right after the High Mass we had Benediction after which our priest went back into the confessional to hear those confessions of people coming to the second mass. By the way, both masses were to "sell out crowds".
Yes, I know that the parishes that had a resident priest often had Benediction Sunday evening but even a lot of those parishes around home had Benediction right after mass because the bishops and priests recognized the importance and beauty of this occasion and wished for their congregations to partake, knowing full well that by evening they could be occupied elsewhere. I know there are arguments out there against this practice, but we all attended, even though it wasn't compulsory and we had a much better reverence for that host which is the Body of Christ.

The next International Eucharistic Congress is going to be held in Quebec City, Canada in 2008. It is expected that Pope Benedict the XVI will make his intentions to come known in 2007. Close to half a million participants are expected to this beautiful historic Quebec City that will also be celebrating its 400th anniversary of its founding. The graces received during Eucharistic Adoration are too numerable to count. I would urge all CNA subscribers to go to Eucharistic Adoration at least once a week and spend just for an hour with our very sweet and loving Jesus. You will find after going regularly one hour once a week that you can simply not get enought of this love and infinite mercy of Jesus. If you get into the practice of going to Eucharistic Adoration on a regular basis you will want to go even more because we never get enough of Jesus. Many of the great Saints spent hours at Eucharistic Adoration every day and received many graces and small miracles from time to time. Parishes that practice Perpetual Adoration are receiving wonderful graces for their entire community and beyond. I would urge you to ask your parish priest to set hours for Eucharistic Adoration in your parishes. You and your parishes will receive many graces and prayers answered that you can not imagine to comprehand. Please spend at least and hour with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration once a week. How did we ever get away from this? I recall Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and 40 hours adoration devotions quite frequently when I was a young man. I think it is hard to blame this setback on liberal excesses connected to Vatican II. Perhaps laziness and arrogance is a better explanation. Where were the seminaries in pushing to protect these valuable devotions? They should have been more vigilant.
