.- On the eve of Pope Benedict XVI’s highly anticipated trip to Turkey, President Tassos Papadopoulos, head of the divided island of Cyprus, which is now partially occupied by the Turkish army, visited with the Holy Father and presented him with two gifts, one of which was an album containing photographs of numerous Orthodox churches destroyed by the Turks since their most recent invasion of the Mediterranean Island.

After 20 minutes of private dialogue, Papadopoulos gave the Holy Father a beautiful 19th Century Byzantine icon of the Virgin and Christ child originating from one of the Orthodox churches within the Turk dominated zone, which has since been destroyed.

The President’s second gift was a large photo album featuring photographs of over 300 Orthodox churches destroyed by the Turks or used for secular and non-religious activities.  After reviewing the album, the Pontiff reportedly exclaimed, “What destruction!”

Turkey will be held to
account for this.

It is interesting to see that Europe did nothing
about this -- which is
probably why this info.
was given to Pope Benedict. The world was ignoring this monstrous
crime, and he wanted the
story to get out.

Keep in mind that some of
these churches were the
most ancient ones in all
of Christianity.

Unless we speak up as
united Catholics, and
STOP our petty squabbles,
the rest of the world
will continue to destroy,
denigrate, and marginalize our religion
and our Savior.

Get angry about this. DO
SOMETHING. Hold the
Turkish government
responsible for this.

Bring this to the U.N.'s
and the U.S.'s attention.
Write your local newspaper IMMEDIATELY.
Do your OWN research --
get the facts, and then
broadcast it all over the
Internet. Get this story
into a pamphlet, and
distribute it everywhere.
If this is a U.N.
protected zone, ask why
didn't the U.N. PROTECT
those churches?

This is a Christian
Holocaust. This cannot
be ignored. If you let
it go, get ready to lose
much more.

STOP being indifferent
and confused about your
faith. Learn how to
speak up for yourself.
Practice talking points,
practice your writing
and speaking in front of
a mirror. Realize that
it is O.K. to condemn
actions like this, and
demand both action and
reparations. It is
*O.K.* to defend your
faith!

Speak, write, and act
with eloquence and
wisdom. Pray constantly.

We tolerate their mosques, they burn our churches..we tolerate
the bombings, banning of Catholic Masses in Saudi Arabia. This is insane!
Islam should be banned as
a subversive and autocratic organization,
certainly this "religion"
has nothing to do with God!

Why advocate destroying the holy place of anyone? Christians should be known by their love.

The destruction of Mecca
would be more appropriate
and long overdue!

What destruction, indeed! What sort of gift is this. I don't understand if this was a cruel gift or a badly disoriented sense of friendliness- like when Julius Caser was presented with the head of his enemny, much to his displeasure as he atleast respected his adversary.

May peace guide us and teach us. May the Immaculate Mother of the Sacred Heart aid us.
