It seems to me that the concept of Saturday evening Mass being a "vigil" for Sunday has never been properly understood. Our Catholic school students have no grasp on why it is important to participate at the Mass on Sunday; some have even stated that they "have go" to the mid-week school Mass is enough. . . even more sadly some of their parents concur.

How many of those going to Mass on Saturdays really have jobs that keep them from Mass on Sunday's - probably less than 5%; they fulfill their "obligation" and go play on Sundays. We need leadership which can only come from the clergy re the need to worship on Sundays- sad to say too many clergy don's want to make waves, or believe to really doesn't matter

The Church so needs to concentrate on why Sunday practice has fallen so. I hope this study group is not afraid to ask the hard questions like: "Has the Saturday evening Mass contributed to the loss of Sunday being the day to worship the Lord together. Kids can now grow up not ever having to actually go to church on Sunday. How can you then tell them that Sunday is a holy day when they haven't the habit of attending Holy Mass on Sunday.

there needs to be amplification of Benedict's words by parish clergy into terms that that identify the most basic character of the Mass, not just a 'social meal' but the re-presentation of Christ's sacrifice, and thereby participation into the most sublime form of worship and prayer. So many fail to grasp their PARTICIPATORY role.
