Attacks in Malaysia designed to 'annihilate' Christians, warns Vatican official
![]() Related articles:
.- Archbishop Robert Sarah, secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples said last week that the recent attacks against Christians in Malaysia are designed to annihilate and reject “those who believe in Christ.” The archbishop made his statements on Vatican Radio after Muslim extremists firebombed four Christian churches on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The attacks came after a controversy over whether to allow Catholics to use the term “Allah,” a traditional Malay word, in referring to the Christian God. Archbishop Sarah also pointed out that “the fact that it has been forbidden to say the name of God is like considering them (Christians) to be pagans and therefore ‘in need’ of converting to Islam. That’s what is behind this,” he said. “We must pray for these Christians who live in Muslim lands and suffer greatly,” the archbishop concluded. Subscriber comments:

Did anyone notice that it was the media that caused all the trouble? Catholic media that is.
God's name is Jesus. The muslim god is called Allah.
It's just plain dumb or conniving for "Catholic" media to go to secular court to use an inappropriate word in a violence prone jurisdiction.
I smell a rat in the editors office.

At issue is not the fact that they believe Christians and Jews worship a different deity. They do not. The issue is that by law in their constitution, all ethnic Malays are born muslim. They must seek permission (rarely granted) if they wish to change their ID card religious identification later. So whenever anything religious written in the Malay language uses the term 'Allah' - a borrowed word from arabic since before the country became muslim - it is presumed to be seeking to convert muslims to that religion, as by law all Malays are muslim.
The fact that Malay is a common language in the country even amongst non-Malays, the fact that there is a small but notable population of Malays who are not muslim despite what is written upon their ID cards' religious identification (nearly unalterable), the fact that allah has been used for over a two thousand years to mean 'deity' - these facts are ignored, sometimes purposefully.
A similar situation exists in Egypt, where is is believed that perhaps as many as a million supposed 'muslims' are in fact Christians who have either given up or never attempted to have their legal identification of 'muslim' changed. It makes one wonder just how many actual muslims really exist in the world.

Mary,
I fundamentally disagree with you. I do agree that there is indeed only one creator, but I do not believe that we all worship HIM. We do not define ourselves through decision to worship God, but through the way we do it. If you worship your Creator through violonece and burnining of churces you indeed worship somebody, you might think it is the God, but in fact, you do not know who it is.
Your reasoning is just too kind. I sincerely wish you were right, but am afraid the things work differently. After all, if everybody serves the same God, the sacrifice of Jesus was completely useless because the salvation could have been reached through other means. We cannot have it both ways, although there is something in us that urges us to think that we all are right.

Thank God that this Archbishop has the courage to rightly condemn these barbarians for what they really are: GENOCIDAL FANATICS! The Christian Churches need to go before the United Nations and the International Court of Justice and demand that these countries that are tolerating this insanity be held accountable for the murderous fanaticism of their citizens. This outrage cannot not be tolerated by the civilized world!

Surely this bigotry has no limits. There is only One Creator Who created all mankind and all that is seen and unseen. We may call Him God, Jehovah, Yawhew, Allah, Ngai, Murungu or whatever every nation in the world calls their Creator. The only defining fact is that whatever we call Him, it is that One and Only Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Eternal and Immanent Creator we are addressing and worshipping Who alone is the Author of life.
It is high time the Muslims began to be tolerant and understand that they were not created by, and do not worship a different God from the One Source of Life who is worshiped by the rest of humanity. Let all people of goodwill pray for them.
For how long will they continue to persecute and murder those who do not profess their Faith. Surely God does not find pleasure in those who kill innocent people just because they do not worship Him the way Muslims do. They need to stop forcing their religion and way of worship on everybody by force of harassment and murder. Please live and let live. Worship our common Creator in your own way and let us worship Him in our own way and let there be peace in the world. That will please God
