Brazilian law would prohibit Christian teaching on homosexuality
Related articles:
.- The Brazilian Senate is considering a bill approved unanimously and without debate by the country’s House of Representatives that aims to promote homosexuality and prohibit Christian teaching on the issue, under the guise of combating discrimination. According to the Association of the Defense of Life, the bill would make it crime punishable by five years in prison to impede expressions of “homosexual affection” in public places or private places open to the public. It would also punish those who deny employment to openly homosexual teachers in schools with up to three years imprisonment, making it impossible for Catholic or Christian schools to prevent homosexuals from joining their faculties. The bill would impose prison sentences on any kind of moral, ethical, philosophical or psychological expression that questions homosexual practices. In this way, “a priest, a pastor, a teacher or even an average citizen who says in a sermon, a classroom or public conversation that homosexual acts are sinful, disordered or an illness could be denounced and detained,” the association said. Continued from earlier posting ...
9. Equal rights are demanded. Legislation and lobbying and protests are now in order. The pressure group for sin starts to get aggressive. They do so out of 'hurt' and 'woundedness.' Once they get their 'rights' (they claim) they will be happy and won't be so aggressive.
10. Tolerance being won, they will not stop. They now demand not only that you tolerate, but that you approve. They've moved from being 'sick' or 'wounded' or 'disabled' by their condition to tolerance, and now they proclaim their condition to be 'good'. As Thomas More was not allowed to remain silent on the King's 'great matter' but had to approve, so the presssure group insists on approval.
11. What was once tolerated now becomes mandatory. Society must integrate the new morality into every level--right down to schools and churches and scout groups. Everyone must adopt the new morality or suffer.
12. Persecution of those who resist.
13. Devil's real happy.
This process happens on an individual level, a family level, a community level and a societal level. The bigger the level the longer it takes, and for it to take effect at the societal, community and family level it must first work on the individual level.
This means you and I must watch for the signs in our own moral life and be alert. Any of us can go down this path, and any of us may be victims of those who are already well down the path of evil and darkness.

Here is how Satan spreads his lies:
1. Natural Law is ignored, undermined or made to look stupid by particular instances where it seems not apply.
2. Subsequently religious and civil authorities have their laws questioned because they are 'too strict' too 'black and white', 'unworkable' or 'lacking in compassion'.
3. Relativism is therefore introduced. An understanding gradually grows that 'there are no objective rule' that apply to all people at all times.
4. Individualism is the next step. 'I guess I have to decide what is right for me in my situation.'
5. Sentimentalism: People who live in a sinful situation demand that they not be judged. They deserve compassion and understanding. They are nice people really...but they have a problem. They're sick. They're wounded. Who are you to judge?
6. Dialogue is demanded. "You need to listen to us and to our stories. Then you will understand we are just like you."
7. Once sympathy is won, the goalposts are moved. Now they are not 'sick' or 'wounded' they're just 'different'. They expect to be accepted despite their 'differences'.
8. Equal rights are expected by those who are acting against God's law. "We are not asking you to approve us. We are simply asking you to tolerate a difference of opinion. Simply allow us to be who we are!"

I'm glad to see one country that has seen the bigotry and hate the church spreads and is putting an end to it.

As sad and angering as this is for the gross injustice against those speaking their opinions and stating their beliefs, it is even sadder for those practicing homosexual and lesbian behavior. For years, so many of these persons had been trying to "come out of the closet." And now it seems like they want to put everyone who doesn't agree with them into a closet instead (or a prison, in this case). Today, they target those who say it's immoral. Tomorrow it will be anyone who even neglects to praise it. Then it will be anyone who refuses to engage in it. And the end result will be that they will just be isolated in a closet all over again--a closet of their own making. It's really very sad, and they are to be pitied, even more than the persons who are unjustly placed into physical prisons. For those practicing the grave sins of homosexual or lesbian behavior must endure a far more painful prison--one from within themselves. May God have mercy on them and free them from this sin which is destroying them and they don't even realize it. To anyone out there who feels this pain, please know that there is hope: “The truth shall set you free.” And Jesus Christ IS the truth. He said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” “Choose life that you may live.” Choose Christ. Be truly FREE!

[The Narth web site] shows there is no definite cause for homosexuality. Genes do not "cause" people to do anything. Such an advanced behavior such as sexual orientation is mechanism that is not specific defined by a "gene" my friends. Please don't buy into the pro-homosexual media's lie of supposed "causes" for homosexuality. It is a choice

I feel that our own nation is slowly taking away our freedom of speech, causing our own to become angry with one another forgetting that the battle is not against flesh and blood , but against the demonic forces and principalities of this world. If homosexuality is causing people who believe it is wrong to go to jail, then were is the justice when homosexuals speak against christianity, should they not too be held up to this new law? then the freedom of speech seems to only apply to the homosexual and not the one that is against it! so, tell me were is our freedom?

Try looking at it from their perspective. They mistakenly assume that "free speech" is a code for extremist propaganda. Why do many nations have laws against denying the Nazi Holocaust. I urge you all to engage your opponents as human beings with differing opinions, however wrong they may be, instead of demons out to overthrow God.

I definitely agree that this law is taking it too far. However, I would like to make the point that they are trying to fight years of discrimination. In Houston, for example, 40% of kids who "come out" to their parents before the age of 18 are kicked out of the house. Who would willingly CHOOSE to be homosexual and therefore isolated in today's society?
There has been research indicating certain chromosome inactivation in women may cause their sons to be homosexual (see LiveScience for more information). In response to Greg's statement referencing the pervasive comments in the Bible condemning homosexuality, we must not forget that the Bible also upheld slavery in various passages. We must keep in mind the theological truths in the Bible, as well as the fact that those Scriptures were written at a specific point in history and references the social conventions at the time. Learning more about the causes of homosexuality can help us empathize with others and grow in God's love. Both sides on this issue need to be able to speak without being imprisoned, but it is worth hearing the other side before condemning them all as sinners.

No link to the actual text of the bill? This article is alarmist enoug--the lack of text from the bill itself (or a link to it) makes this all sound like a bit like an urban legend.

Marc, you are one confused individual. Christians do not "hate" gays any more than they hate any other sinner- and aren't we ALL sinners? Rather, they state a belief and obedience to God's law as found in the scriptures, which are very clear in the sinfulness of homosexuality or any sex outside of marriage. And now you are thanking God, the Maker of the Law, for the fact that a two bit government thinks they have the authority to over rule His law??? How comical.

What insanity by these Brazilian politicians! Discriminate against Christians in order to [supposedly] prevent discrimination against homosexuals.
I was so disgusted when I read this that I put the following title to this news, on my local mid-Michigan website: On the road to Fascism – So. American politicians considering discrimination against Christians -- “Brazilian law would prohibit Christian teaching on homosexuality” (7/17/08)

This is wonderful news. I would expect this from a liberated country like Canada or the Netherlands, not Brazil. But bravo for them. It is time the R.C. Church leaves its medieval views on human sexuality. Their anti-gay hatred and discrimination must be squashed by the judiciary at all levels. Thank you, "Lord, for you gracious Spirit who moves among us, freeing us from our oppressors."

Every authentic major religion prohibits homosexuality.
This Braizilian law is reflective of the federal court ruling out of San Francisco that says essentially the same thing, prompting the city to condemn Catholicism. If I believed in the Apocalypse, this would be one of its signs.

It does sound like discrimination against Christians and their religious beliefs. I wonder if they would have the audacity to silence Muslims who disagree with homosexuality. At least Christians don't put people to death if they don't agree with their beliefs. A true Christian would show love and compassion toward the person. Furthermore, God's law is higher than man's law. The more Christians are oppressed the more the church will grow. This has happened in the past and it will happen in the present.

A HINT, Brian? No, a HINT would be if they threatened to fine people for speaking out against homosexuals. This law threatens to imprison people for five years for expressing religious opinions. This is a totalitarian law worthy of 1984.

It is becoming clear that the anti-Christian movement which started in Europe, spread to Canada, has now began to show its ugly head in Brazil. Whoever is behind this movement is trying to use the issue of hate speech toward homosexuals to destroy the churches. First, persons will be punished. Later, churches will be closed, the Bible will be banned as a hate book.

I am no homophobic and have nothing against homosexuality, I feel that it is wrong according to Christ, but that we should still love those that fall into sins. As an American everyone should have equal rights. However, this law imposes on the Christian's rights, the schools are private and should be able to practice their own beliefs, this is what freedom of speech and religion is for. I can't believe Brazil would protect homosexuals rights so much that it actually takes another groups away. It takes away the whole point of the law they are creating.

To a Christian, the question is what's of more importance, the Word and Laws of God our Creator, or the laws of man? The answer for us Christians should be very simple, the laws of God are always paramount! The real trouble within this proposed legislation is not so much the protection of the sinner, but rather the protection of the sin. And not only that, but the vile subjection by a governmental authority of requiring that as Christian believers, we not be able to help a fallen brother or sister to see the truth of Christ Jesus.
May God help us. For you see if we as a peoples would only follow his blessed commandments and scriptures, the entirety of this problem, as with so many others, would finally find its fullest solution. PS ... Brazil should consult the people of Britain on the ramifications of this type of legislation. My understanding is that this type of legislation results in a very oppressed citizenry at best.

Sadly, I don't know whether or not this report is entirely true. If it is true, then maybe there is a hint of anti-Christian totalitarianism. If there is any misinformation, though, then pro-family activists may have a lot of explaining to do.
