A picture of little Lujan

.- The Catholic magazine “Cristo Hoy” in Argentina has published an article on a mother who entrusted her daughter to the intercession of Our Lady of Lujan once she was diagnosed with an incurable disease before she was born. The little girl, Lujan, is now three years-old and living a normal life.

Marcela is an eye doctor and mother of three.  During the eighth month of her last pregnancy, doctors found her baby to be suffering from anencephaly, a condition in which the brain does not develop normally.  Marcela was told her child would die within days of being born.

“When I was being taken into the delivery room, I prayed to the Virgin of Lujan and decided to name my daughter after her and place her into her hands.  The Virgin of Lujan appeared in my mind and my heart during those difficult moments and I fervently prayed for my child to her.  Thanks to her, I have my daughter with me today and she is just like any other girl her age, smiling and loving those whom she meets.  According to the doctors she has a deficient nervous system, but she is nonetheless a normal girl,” Marcela said.

Little Lujan’s case continues to be inexplicable to the doctors who treated her.  “They cannot explain the extraordinary improvement of our daughter. Today she is a normal girl except for hemiparesis on her left side,” her mother said.

She said her daughter’s illness has made her family appreciate life more.  “I thank God every day of my life for the miracle He did with my daughter,” she said.

“When faced with the blunt reality of a developing baby with problems, everything around comes crashing down, hope fades, negative thoughts take hold, because of how fragile these little people seem to be.  But you need to pray for a lot of strength, have hope and through prayer try to overcome this difficult moment,” Marcela stated.

“My message to everybody is that miracles do exist and that God is always with us,” she added. “I can testify to this because I experienced it.  I hope that by telling my story I can help others with their faith,” she said.

Whoever wrote this is trying to spread rumors and lies. Anencephalic is when a baby is born without 90% of its brain. There is NO cure. The result is death. This article is just trying to spread ignorance.

OK. I am saddened by all the unbelief and even ridicule these commenters are portraying. Miracles CAN and DO happen. I am living proof! God is God for that very reason. Wake up people, and accept Him for Who He is!

Reiterating what many others on this board have said, this child did not have anencephaly. It's as simple as that. This article is sadly misinformed and will misinform many gullible people. Anencephaly is the lack of most of the brain and a good portion of the SKULL. It is not a mere "condition."
There is nothing wrong with faith, but to print lies like this is totally irresponsible.

This is so sick. You are giving false hope to people who are pregnant with anencephalic babies!

Anencephaly CANNOT be cured. It's a birth defect where most of the brain simply didn't form. When born, the infants are in a coma until they die of an infection.

Google anecephaly images and you'll see what I mean.

There was probably just a misdiagnosis in utero, it happened to me with my first son.
Went for an ultrasound around 34 weeks & the doctors told my son was hydrocephalic because they thought they saw his peripheral ventricles (sp?) were enlarged by 3mm. They advised me about terminating the pregnancy, AT 34 WEEKS, saying I could go to Kansas to do it.
We were devastated.
Anyway 2 weeks later, I had another ultrasound & all of a sudden no more 3 mm enlargement & my son was born completely normal. I think the ultrasound machine may have been calibrated wrong. It really pissed me off they suggested the termination that late in the pregnancy.
We were advised to terminate

There is absolutely no way she had Anencephaly. What's her fake cranium made of then? Why are her eyes so small? It's not an "incurable disease" but a "fatal birth defect." If she had Anencephaly, she would be blind, deaf, unable to feel, & a complete mental vegetable.

a wrong diagnosis of your doctor, is probably the cause, i have been assisting in many childbirths and have seen anenchephalic children, sue your doctor for giving you a wrong diagnosis, and read about anenchephaly, find your test results and consult to another doctor, if it had been a miracle it would be the first one ive seen. Explain that to all the mothers who had anencephalic children, i bet they saw the lady lujan too, but they werent in luck were they?

Nicole, take it easy. Anencephaly is easily distinguished from hydrocephaly with modern ultrasound which is available even the hospitals of Africa. Anencephaly is incompatible with life early after delivery or in rare cases in the first few weeks. If the digital images were saved it's easy to check this fact.

Even if the diagnosis was wrong and the kid had congenital hydrocephaly--a hopeless disease--a miracle is still there.
On the other hand, in spite of all prejudices, medicine in Argentina is good , a wrong diagnosis would had been exceptional.

this little girl does NOT have anencephaly!! She was misdiagnosed. She may have hydrocephaly, but not anencepahly because if she did she would be missing most of her skull & brain. This is giving false hope...
