Knights of Columbus contributes $1 million to Prop 8 campaign
Related articles:
.- Proposition 8, the ballot initiative to protect marriage, has announced that it has received a $1 million contribution from the Knights of Columbus, the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. In a press release, spokesman for the Knights of Columbus, Patrick Korten said that the donation from the Knights "is both an indication of how important we believe this referendum to be, and an encouragement to other groups and individuals of all faiths to lend their support as well.” “From the day the organization was founded 126 years ago, strengthening and protecting the family has always been central to the mission of the Knights of Columbus. Preserving marriage as the indispensable institution in which children are conceived, born and raised to adulthood by a loving father and mother is vital to a healthy society. It is also the most favorable environment in which to protect the rights and best interests of children. We are proud to join the Catholic bishops and priests of California, and so many other people of good will, in this effort on which so much depends." Ned Dolejsi of the California Catholic Conference remarked that “this generous donation from the Knights of Columbus shows the broad-based support that Protect Marriage is receiving from a variety of faith-based organizations. Proposition 8 is honored to have the support of an esteemed organization who has such a strong record of public service and success." Throughout its history, the Knights of Columbus has been an effective advocate and defender of civil and religious rights for all. The organization includes more than 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, and other countries. Subscriber comments:

There needs to be a seperation of Gay and State. If I choose to raise my children in a family with one man and one women as head of house hold , no one has the rights to take that away. Gay rights is about pushing their aganda on others through the media and schools with our tax dollars.
If you choose to be gay or feel you have no control over being gay then so be it . Be happy. It is not your right to change the family unit and disrupt my family and what my children are taught in school. What happens to my rights when gay activists use state and federal dollars to promote their cause based on their assumed victim status??? The game of the victim with special needs are over.

Ok the last line of this article says
"Throughout its history, the Knights of Columbus has been an effective advocate and defender of civil and religious rights for all." Apparently "All" has a diferent meaning for the Kinghts!

Schools closing, families are homeless, more and more hungry people and you decide to throw money at a silly little non existent threat that will affect no one except grant rights to those you abhor. Jesus would be so proud of you.

Perhaps before attacking gay issues and 'protecting the family', maybe stop the priests from 'loving' little kids.
It's SO bizzar - you forgive/employ men who abuse countless little boys against their will, but cant even bare the sight of two men in love, who concent to such love. Stop hiding behind an institution and start loving. Isn't it just the Christian thing to do?

1 Million dollars spent on this? How many hungry people or sick kids could have been helped by this Catholic charity with that money? It is sad to see the Church I love losing its priorities like this.

The bigotry against gay people, and particularly the removal of marital rights once enjoyed by gay Californians, astonished me in this election. The same spirit of unity and equality that elected Barack Obama should have promoted equality for gay Americans, particularly since Obama strongly opposed Proposition 8, in writing. Gay rights is the civil rights movement of our lifetime. Those who use the Bible to support their bigotry may fail to realize is that the Bible has been used in history to support racial discrimination, sex discrimination, and numerous other horrors, and those using it now to support discrimination against gays are no better than than their historically bigoted counterparts. I find it offensive, and the only hope I see is that people under 30 voted overwhelmingly against such bigotry. Thus, as time marches on, I believe equality will become the law of the land.

Homosexual relations are against natural law, and scripture is pretty clear about these relationships. (Sodom and Gomorrah.) Next, as in Mass, they will be indoctrinating children with these concepts to make them acceptable-- a cultural nightmare in the making. Live chastely and in Christ, with Christ and for Christ, not yourselves. Marriage is between a man and a woman, has been for centuries, God designed it that way!

As a gay man and a very spiritual person, I see marriage as between myself, my partner and my Divine beloved. Why does any human think they have the right to insert themselves between the union of those three? That is pure human lovelessness and ego. The fact that this sacrament is something a person feels like they have the right to withhold me shows this.
My God knows that he created me gay, that the soul has no gender and love should be consecrated. Where is Jesus when we need him? In our hearts of course, let us all pray to have the wisdom to listen.

Under current California law, the Catholic Church can continue to marry a man to a woman and exclude same sex marriage in its churches.

Is there one argument against marriage between any two consenting adults that is not based on religious beliefs? Prop 8 hits at the core of this state and country's concrete inability to separate church and state. Will someone just please confirm that America is a theocracy after all? A little honesty is all I ask for, and Christians are always telling me how honest they are....

I understand the importance of strengthening marriage and family (my wife of 12 years and our two kids are #1 in my life).
But Prop 8 is not about my family, it’s about families that I’ll most likely never meet, like Richard’s: Just for the record, here in a northern California county, on January 27th, my beloved husband died. We were registered Domestic Partners with the Secretary of State. Had been since 2001. But Domestic Partners really is 2nd class - no it really is no class here. He died at home so the Deputy Sheriff acted as Coroner. He refused to recognize me as next of kin. He insisted we call a blood relative in New York State to choose a funeral home etc. He wanted to remove all of my beloved’s possesions from our home and ship them back East … including his wedding ring. It was a Sunday night so I could not get the County judge or attorney to set things right (as I did on Monday) I had to lie and weasle to keep our stuff in our home. Because I did not count at all. Our family did not count. We were 2nd class - no class. Because we were not married. Don’t tell me that Domestic Partnership is just as good as marriage. And don’t tell me that I was not married in my heart AND in my church to my husband. The Court just recognized what is a fact … he and I were married … and it is a civil right.
