.- The University of Notre Dame has announced it will offer the Mass in its extraordinary form, that is in Latin, on campus as soon as the necessary requirements, outlined in Pope Benedict’s motu proprio July 7, are fulfilled.

The requirement specified in an announcement from the university’s campus ministry department is a celebrant who is familiar with Latin and the rubrics of the Roman Missal of Blessed John XXIII.

This Mass is tentatively scheduled for Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. in the chapel of Alumni Hall.

Celebrants for these liturgies will be appointed by the director of campus ministry or the rector of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, who each have jurisdiction over the celebration of some of the sacraments on campus.

The current form of the Mass, known as the ordinary for of the Roman Rite, will continue to be celebrated at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart as well as in the residence halls.

This fall, campus ministry will provide a catechesis on the Eucharist. It will provide  students with a deeper understanding of the Eucharist, the ordinary and extraordinary forms of the Mass, and the Pope’s motu proprio.

I would beg to differ Mr.Mieras. It is a fact Christ never said the mass didn't have to be in latin, but it doesn't mean its forbidden, but it has infact brought many to the Holy Mother Church even more so because of the sence of Tradition. Like myself.

Christ never said that
mass had to be in Latin
in order to be devotional . In the
present day it is/should be enough that Catholics even
worship weekly ; without the added burden of learning Latin = just to go to church . The Latin mass has ALWAYS been a deterant to many who wished to join the Church ; but were intimidated by an intimidating outdated dialect .

Wish they'd schedule this for around noon since some of us live in CST and would drive about 120 miles RT to attend. In any event, I'm glad they are going to celebrate the TLM--hopefully a High Mass using Gregorian Chant.

Wonderfull to see the pre-vatican Mass being recognized. EWTN will televise a Tridentine Mass at 8AM on September 14. September 14 is the Feast of the Holy Cross. Crosses will come back on our empty alters during the Tridentine Mass. Things are looking up after waiting so long.

Praise God. I pray that Notre Dame will include this on their Sunday tv brocast as I am disabled and watch their Mass each Sunday on Channel 128, Los Angeles Bishop will not do this I don't think and our Church took away our bells and incense so I KNOW they won't do it. Praise God for Notre Dame.

I am happy to see this option being inaguarated at ND. Because of my age I was very familiar with the Tridentine Mass. I was involved substantially in my Novis Ordo parish for over 30 years.

A personal parish of the Bishop was started in 1994 in our diocese. I attended one Mass and that was enough for me to want to belong to that parish. I have been a traditional rite Catholic since that time.

I am so grateful for the action of our then Bishop, Tobin, for permitting this Mass to be celebrated in this diocese. His action was taken for many years prior to Pope Benedict's Moto Proprio.

While I understand that many will not want to change their manner of celebrating the Eucharist, I consider it an appropriate blessing to be able to make the choice.
